Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
20 I have discovered David, my servant.
With my holy oil I have anointed him as king.[a]
21 My hand will support him,[b]
and my arm will strengthen him.
22 No enemy will be able to exact tribute[c] from him;[d]
a violent oppressor will not be able to humiliate him.[e]
23 I will crush his enemies before him;
I will strike down those who hate him.
24 He will experience my faithfulness and loyal love,[f]
and by my name he will win victories.[g]
25 I will place his hand over the sea,
his right hand over the rivers.[h]
26 He will call out to me,
‘You are my father,[i] my God, and the protector who delivers me.’[j]
27 I will appoint him to be my firstborn son,[k]
the most exalted of the earth’s kings.
28 I will always extend my loyal love to him,
and my covenant with him is secure.[l]
29 I will give him an eternal dynasty,[m]
and make his throne as enduring as the skies above.[n]
30 If his sons reject my law
and disobey my regulations,
31 if they break[o] my rules
and do not keep my commandments,
32 I will punish their rebellion by beating them with a club,[p]
their sin by inflicting them with bruises.[q]
33 But I will not remove[r] my loyal love from him,
nor be unfaithful to my promise.[s]
34 I will not break[t] my covenant
or go back on what I promised.[u]
35 Once and for all I have vowed by my own holiness,
I will never deceive[v] David.
36 His dynasty will last forever.[w]
His throne will endure before me, like the sun;[x]
37 it will remain stable, like the moon.[y]
His throne will endure like the skies.”[z] (Selah)
David Brings the Ark to Jerusalem
15 David constructed buildings in the City of David; he then prepared a place for the ark of God and pitched a tent for it. 2 Then David said, “Only the Levites may carry the ark of God, for the Lord chose them to carry the ark of the Lord and to serve before him perpetually.”
4 He appointed some of the Levites to serve before the ark of the Lord, to offer prayers, songs of thanks, and hymns to the Lord God of Israel. 5 Asaph was the leader and Zechariah second-in-command, followed by Jeiel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Mattithiah, Eliab, Benaiah, Obed-Edom, and Jeiel. They were to play stringed instruments, Asaph was to sound the cymbals, 6 and the priests Benaiah and Jahaziel were to blow trumpets regularly before the ark of God’s covenant.
David Thanks God
7 That day David first gave to Asaph and his colleagues this song of thanks to the Lord.
8 Give thanks to the Lord!
Call on his name!
Make known his accomplishments among the nations.
9 Sing to him! Make music to him!
Tell about all his miraculous deeds.
10 Boast about his holy name.
Let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice.
11 Seek the Lord and the strength he gives.
Seek his presence[a] continually!
12 Recall the miraculous deeds he performed,
his mighty acts and the judgments he decreed,[b]
13 O children[c] of Israel, God’s[d] servant,
you descendants of Jacob, God’s[e] chosen ones!
Healing a Blind Man
35 As[a] Jesus[b] approached[c] Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the road begging. 36 When he heard a crowd going by, he asked what was going on. 37 They[d] told him, “Jesus the Nazarene is passing by.” 38 So[e] he called out,[f] “Jesus, Son of David,[g] have mercy[h] on me!” 39 And those who were in front[i] scolded[j] him to get him to be quiet, but he shouted[k] even more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” 40 So[l] Jesus stopped and ordered the beggar[m] to be brought to him. When the man[n] came near, Jesus[o] asked him, 41 “What do you want me to do for you?” He replied,[p] “Lord, let me see again.”[q] 42 Jesus[r] said to him, “Receive[s] your sight; your faith has healed you.”[t] 43 And immediately he regained[u] his sight and followed Jesus,[v] praising[w] God. When[x] all the people saw it, they too[y] gave praise to God.
