¹⁵ And in those days, Peter stood up in the midst of ^(A)the brothers (a crowd of about 120 ^[a]persons was there together), and said, ¹⁶ “Men, brothers, ^(B)the Scripture had to be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit foretold by the mouth of David concerning Judas, ^(C)who became a guide to those who arrested Jesus. ¹⁷ For he was ^(D)counted among us and received his share in ^(E)this ministry.”

²¹ Therefore it is necessary that of the men who have accompanied us all the time that ^(A)the Lord Jesus went in and out ^[a]among us— ^22 (B)beginning ^[b]with the baptism of John until the day that He ^(C)was taken up from us—one of these must become a ^(D)witness with us of His resurrection.” ²³ And they put forward two men, Joseph called Barsabbas (who was also called Justus), and ^(E)Matthias. ²⁴ And they ^(F)prayed and said, “You, Lord, ^(G)who know the hearts of all men, show which one of these two You have chosen ²⁵ to take the place of ^(H)this ministry and ^(I)apostleship from which Judas turned aside to go to his own place.” ²⁶ And they ^[c](J)cast lots for them, and the lot fell ^[d]to ^(K)Matthias; and he was ^[e]added to ^(L)the eleven apostles.

^9 (A)If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater; for the witness of God is this, that ^(B)He has borne witness about His Son. ¹⁰ The one who believes in the Son of God ^(C)has this witness in himself. The one who does not believe God has ^(D)made Him a liar, because he has not believed in the witness which God has borne witness about His Son. ¹¹ And the witness is this, that God gave us ^(E)eternal life, and ^(F)this life is in His Son. ^12 (G)He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have that life.

^13 (H)These things I have written to you who ^(I)believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have ^(J)eternal life.

Jesus Prays for His Disciples

⁶ “^(A)I have manifested Your name to the men whom ^(B)You gave Me out of the world; they were ^(C)Yours and You gave them to Me, and they have ^(D)kept Your word. ⁷ Now they have come to know that everything You have given Me is from You; ⁸ for ^(E)the words which You gave Me ^(F)I have given to them; and they received them and truly understood that ^(G)I came forth from You, and they believed that ^(H)You sent Me. ^9 (I)I ask on their behalf; ^(J)I do not ask on behalf of the world but of those whom ^(K)You have given Me; for ^(L)they are Yours; ¹⁰ and ^(M)all things that are Mine are Yours, and Yours are Mine; and I have been glorified in them. ¹¹ And I am no longer in the world; and yet ^(N)they themselves are in the world, and ^(O)I come to You. ^(P)Holy Father, keep them in Your name, the name ^(Q)which You have given Me, that ^(R)they may be one even as We are. ¹² While I was with them, I was keeping them in Your name ^(S)which You have given Me; and I guarded them and ^(T)not one of them perished but ^(U)the ^[a]son of perdition, so that the ^(V)Scripture would be fulfilled. ¹³ But now ^(W)I come to You; and ^(X)these things I speak in the world so that they may have My ^(Y)joy made full in themselves. ¹⁴ I have given them Your word; and ^(Z)the world has hated them, because ^(AA)they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. ¹⁵ I do not ask You to take them out of the world, but to keep them ^[b]from ^[c](AB)the evil one. ^16 (AC)They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. ^17 (AD)Sanctify them by the truth; Your word is truth. ¹⁸ As ^(AE)You sent Me into the world, ^(AF)I also sent them into the world. ¹⁹ For their sake I ^(AG)sanctify Myself, that they themselves also may be ^(AH)sanctified ^(AI)in truth.
