Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
The Voice of Yahweh
A Psalm of David.
29 (A)Ascribe to Yahweh, O [a]sons of the mighty,
Ascribe to Yahweh glory and strength.
2 Ascribe to Yahweh the glory of His name;
Worship Yahweh (B)in the splendor of holiness.
3 The (C)voice of Yahweh is upon the waters;
The God of glory (D)thunders,
Yahweh is over [b](E)many waters.
4 The voice of Yahweh is (F)powerful,
The voice of Yahweh is full of splendor.
5 The voice of Yahweh breaks the cedars;
Indeed, Yahweh breaks in pieces (G)the cedars of Lebanon.
6 He makes Lebanon (H)skip like a calf,
And (I)Sirion like a young wild ox.
7 The voice of Yahweh hews out [c]flames of fire.
8 The voice of Yahweh causes the wilderness to tremble;
Yahweh causes the wilderness of (J)Kadesh to tremble.
9 The voice of Yahweh makes (K)the deer to calve
And strips the forests bare;
And (L)in His temple everything says, “Glory!”
15 So the common man will be bowed down and the man of importance will be made low,
(A)The eyes of the lofty also will be made low.
16 But (B)Yahweh of hosts will be (C)lofty in judgment,
And the holy God will show Himself (D)holy in righteousness.
17 (E)Then the lambs will graze as in their pasture,
And sojourners will eat in the waste places of the [a]wealthy.
18 Woe to those who drag (F)iniquity with the cords of worthlessness,
And sin as if with cart ropes,
19 (G)Who say, “Let Him hurry, let Him hasten His work, that we may see it;
And let the counsel of the Holy One of Israel draw near
And come to pass, that we may know it!”
20 Woe to those who (H)call evil good and good evil,
Who [b](I)substitute darkness for light and light for darkness,
Who [c]substitute bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!
21 Woe to those who are (J)wise in their own eyes
And understanding in their own [d]sight!
22 (K)Woe to those who are mighty men in drinking wine
And valiant men in mixing strong drink,
23 (L)Who [e]declare the wicked righteous for a bribe,
And (M)remove the [f]righteous standing of the ones who are [g]righteous!
If the World Hates You
18 “(A)If the world hates you, [a]know that it has hated Me before it hated you. 19 If you were of the world, the world would love its own; but because you are not of the world, but (B)I chose you out of the world, (C)because of this the world hates you. 20 Remember the word that I said to you, ‘(D)A slave is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted Me, (E)they will also persecute you; if they (F)kept My word, they will keep yours also.
