Numbers 15

Offerings When Entering Canaan

15 Now Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, (A)Speak to the sons of Israel and say to them, ‘When you enter the land of your places of habitation, which I am going to give you, then make (B)an offering by fire to Yahweh, a burnt offering or a sacrifice to [a](C)fulfill a special vow, or as a freewill offering or in your (D)appointed times, to make a (E)soothing aroma to Yahweh, from the herd or from the flock. (F)And the one who brings his offering near shall bring near to Yahweh a grain offering of one-tenth of an [b]ephah of fine flour mixed with one-fourth of a [c]hin of oil, and you shall prepare wine for the drink offering, one-fourth of a hin, with the burnt offering or for the sacrifice, for (G)each lamb. Or for a ram you shall prepare as a grain offering two-tenths of an ephah of fine flour mixed with one-third of a hin of oil; and for the drink offering you shall bring near one-third of a hin of wine as a soothing aroma to Yahweh. And when you prepare (H)a bull from the herd as a burnt offering or a sacrifice, to [d]fulfill a special vow, or for peace offerings to Yahweh, then you shall bring near with the bull from the herd a grain offering of three-tenths of an ephah of fine flour mixed with one-half a hin of oil; 10 and you shall bring near as the drink offering one-half a hin of wine as an offering by fire, as a soothing aroma to Yahweh.

11 ‘Thus it shall be done for each ox, or for each ram, or for each of the male lambs, or of the goats. 12 According to the number that you prepare, so you shall do for everyone according to their number. 13 All who are native shall do these things in this manner, in bringing near an offering by fire, as a soothing aroma to Yahweh.

Statute for the Sojourner

14 And if a sojourner sojourns with you, or one who may be among you throughout your generations, and he [e]offers an offering by fire as a soothing aroma to Yahweh, just as you do so he shall do. 15 As for the assembly, there shall be (I)one statute for you and for the sojourner who sojourns with you, a perpetual statute throughout your generations; as you are, so shall the sojourner be before Yahweh. 16 There shall be (J)one law and one judgment for you and for the sojourner who sojourns with you.’”

17 Then Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, 18 “Speak to the sons of Israel and say to them, ‘When you enter the land where I am going to bring you, 19 then it shall be, that when you eat of the [f](K)food of the land, you shall [g]raise up [h]a contribution offering to Yahweh. 20 (L)Of the first of your [i]dough you shall [j]raise up a cake as a [k]contribution offering; as (M)the [l]contribution offering of the threshing floor, so you shall raise it up. 21 From the first of your [m]dough you shall give to Yahweh a [n]contribution offering throughout your generations.

22 ‘But when you (N)unintentionally fail and do not observe all these commandments, which Yahweh has spoken to Moses, 23 even all that Yahweh has commanded you by the hand of Moses, from the day when Yahweh commanded and onward throughout your generations, 24 then it will be, if it is done (O)unintentionally, hidden from the sight of the congregation, that all the congregation shall offer one bull from the herd for a burnt offering as a soothing aroma to Yahweh, (P)with its grain offering and its drink offering, according to the legal judgment, and one male goat for a sin offering. 25 Then (Q)the priest shall make atonement for all the congregation of the sons of Israel, and they will be pardoned; for it was an error, and they have brought their offering, an offering by fire to Yahweh, and their sin offering before Yahweh, for their error. 26 So all the congregation of the sons of Israel will be pardoned, with the sojourner who sojourns among them, for it happened to all the people through (R)error.

27 ‘Also if one person sins (S)unintentionally, then he shall bring near a one year old female goat for a sin offering. 28 (T)And the priest shall make atonement before Yahweh for the person who goes astray when he sins unintentionally, making atonement for him [o]that he may be pardoned. 29 You shall have one law for him who does anything unintentionally, for him who is native among the sons of Israel and for the sojourner who sojourns among them. 30 But the person who does anything with a (U)high hand, whether he is native or a sojourner, that one is blaspheming Yahweh; and that person shall be cut off from among his people. 31 Because he has (V)despised the word of Yahweh and has broken His commandment, that person shall be completely cut off; (W)his [p]guilt will be on him.’”

A Sabbath-breaker Put to Death

32 Now the sons of Israel were in the wilderness, and they found a man (X)gathering wood on the sabbath day. 33 And those who found him gathering wood brought him near to Moses and Aaron and to all the congregation; 34 and they put him in [q]custody (Y)because it had not been [r]declared what should be done to him. 35 Then Yahweh said to Moses, “The man shall surely be put to death; (Z)all the congregation shall stone him with stones outside the camp.” 36 So all the congregation brought him outside the camp and stoned him [s]to death with stones, just as Yahweh had commanded Moses.

37 Yahweh also spoke to Moses, saying, 38 “Speak to the sons of Israel, and tell them that they shall make for themselves (AA)tassels on the corners of their garments throughout their generations, and that they shall put on the tassel of each corner a cord of blue. 39 And it shall be a tassel for you [t]to look at and (AB)remember all the commandments of Yahweh, so as to do them and not [u]follow after your own heart and your own eyes, after which you played the harlot, 40 so that you may remember to do all My commandments and (AC)be holy to your God. 41 I am Yahweh your God who brought you out from the land of Egypt to be your God; I am Yahweh your God.”

Psalm 51

Create in Me a Clean Heart, O God

For the choir director. A Psalm of David. When [a]Nathan the prophet came to him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba.

51 (A)Be gracious to me, O God, according to Your lovingkindness;
According to the abundance of (B)Your compassion (C)blot out my transgressions.
(D)Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity
And (E)cleanse me from my sin.
For [b]I (F)know my transgressions,
And my sin is ever before me.
(G)Against You, You only, I have sinned
And done what is (H)evil in Your sight,
So that (I)You [c]are justified [d]when You speak
And pure when You judge.

Behold, I was (J)brought forth in iniquity,
And in sin my mother conceived me.
Behold, You delight in (K)truth in the [e]innermost being,
And in the hidden part You will (L)make me know wisdom.
[f]Purify me (M)with hyssop, and I shall be clean;
[g]Wash me, and I shall be (N)whiter than snow.
[h]Make me to hear (O)joy and gladness,
Let the (P)bones which You have crushed rejoice.
(Q)Hide Your face from my sins
And blot out all my iniquities.

10 (R)Create [i]in me a (S)clean heart, O God,
And renew [j]a (T)steadfast spirit within me.
11 (U)Do not cast me away from Your presence
And do not take Your (V)Holy Spirit from me.
12 Restore to me the (W)joy of Your salvation
And sustain me with a (X)willing spirit.
13 Then I will (Y)teach transgressors Your ways,
And sinners will [k]be (Z)converted to You.

14 Deliver me from (AA)bloodguiltiness, O God, (AB)the God of my salvation;
Then my (AC)tongue will joyfully sing of Your righteousness.
15 O Lord, [l](AD)open my lips,
That my mouth may (AE)declare Your praise.
16 For You (AF)do not delight in sacrifice, otherwise I would give it;
You are not pleased with burnt offering.
17 The sacrifices of God are a (AG)broken spirit;
A broken and a [m]contrite heart, O God, You will not despise.

18 (AH)By Your favor do good to Zion;
[n](AI)Build the walls of Jerusalem.
19 Then You will delight in [o](AJ)righteous sacrifices,
In (AK)burnt offering and whole burnt offering;
Then [p]young bulls will be offered on Your altar.

Isaiah 5

The Song of the Vineyard

Let me sing now for my well-beloved
A song of my beloved concerning His vineyard.
My well-beloved had a (A)vineyard on [a]a fertile hill.
He dug it all around, removed its stones,
And planted it with [b]the (B)choicest vine.
And He built a tower in the middle of it
And also hewed out a [c]wine vat in it;
Then He (C)hoped for it to produce good grapes,
But it produced only [d]worthless ones.

“So now, O inhabitants of Jerusalem and men of Judah,
(D)Please judge between Me and My vineyard.
(E)What more was there to do for My vineyard [e]that I have not done in it?
Why, when I hoped for it to produce good grapes did it produce [f]worthless ones?
So now let Me tell you what I am going to do to My vineyard:
I will (F)remove its hedge, and it will be consumed;
I will (G)break down its wall, and it will become (H)trampled ground.
I will (I)lay it waste;
It will not be pruned or hoed,
But briars and thorns will come up.
I will also command the clouds to (J)rain no rain on it.”

For the (K)vineyard of Yahweh of hosts is the house of Israel
And the men of Judah His delightful plant.
Thus He hoped for justice, but behold, (L)bloodshed;
For righteousness, but behold, a cry of distress.

Woes to Those Who Call Evil Good

Woe to those who (M)add house to house and join field to field,
Until there is no more room,
So that you have to live alone in the midst of the land!
In my ears Yahweh of hosts has sworn, “Surely, (N)many houses shall become (O)desolate,
Even great and good ones, without inhabitants.
10 For (P)ten [g]acres of vineyard will yield only one [h]bath of wine,
And a [i](Q)homer of seed will yield but an [j]ephah of grain.”

11 Woe to those who rise early in the morning that they may pursue (R)strong drink,
Who stay up late in the evening that wine may inflame them!
12 And their banquets are accompanied by lyre and (S)harp, by tambourine and flute, and by wine;
But they (T)do not look upon the deeds of Yahweh,
Nor do they see the work of His hands.

13 Therefore My people go into exile for their (U)lack of knowledge;
And [k]their (V)honorable men are famished,
And their multitude is parched with thirst.
14 Therefore (W)Sheol has enlarged its [l]throat and opened its mouth without limit;
And [m]Jerusalem’s majesty, her multitude, her rumbling, and the exultant within her, descend into it.
15 So the common man will be bowed down and the man of importance will be made low,
(X)The eyes of the lofty also will be made low.
16 But (Y)Yahweh of hosts will be (Z)lofty in judgment,
And the holy God will show Himself (AA)holy in righteousness.
17 (AB)Then the lambs will graze as in their pasture,
And sojourners will eat in the waste places of the [n]wealthy.

18 Woe to those who drag (AC)iniquity with the cords of worthlessness,
And sin as if with cart ropes,
19 (AD)Who say, “Let Him hurry, let Him hasten His work, that we may see it;
And let the counsel of the Holy One of Israel draw near
And come to pass, that we may know it!”

20 Woe to those who (AE)call evil good and good evil,
Who [o](AF)substitute darkness for light and light for darkness,
Who [p]substitute bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!
21 Woe to those who are (AG)wise in their own eyes
And understanding in their own [q]sight!
22 (AH)Woe to those who are mighty men in drinking wine
And valiant men in mixing strong drink,
23 (AI)Who [r]declare the wicked righteous for a bribe,
And (AJ)remove the [s]righteous standing of the ones who are [t]righteous!

24 Therefore, (AK)as a tongue of fire consumes stubble
And dry grass collapses into the flame,
So their (AL)root will become (AM)like rot and their blossom [u]blow away as dust;
For they have (AN)rejected the law of Yahweh of hosts
And the word of the Holy One of Israel they have spurned.
25 On this account, the (AO)anger of Yahweh has burned against His people,
And He has stretched out His hand against them and struck them down.
And the (AP)mountains trembled, and their (AQ)corpses [v]lay like refuse in the middle of the streets.
(AR)For all this His anger is not turned back,
But His (AS)hand is still stretched out.

26 He will also lift up a (AT)standard to the [w]distant nations,
And will (AU)whistle for it (AV)from the ends of the earth;
And behold, it will (AW)come with speed swiftly.
27 (AX)No one in it is weary or stumbles,
None slumbers or sleeps;
Nor is the (AY)belt at its waist undone,
Nor its sandal strap broken.
28 [x](AZ)Its arrows are sharp and all its bows are bent;
The hoofs of its horses [y]seem like flint and its chariot (BA)wheels like a whirlwind.
29 Its (BB)roaring is like a lioness, and it roars like young lions;
It growls and (BC)seizes the prey
And carries it off with (BD)no one to deliver it.
30 And it will (BE)growl over it in that day like the roaring of the sea.
If one (BF)looks to the land, behold, there is darkness and distress;
Even the light is darkened by its clouds.

Hebrews 12

Jesus, the Author and Perfecter of Faith

12 Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, (A)laying aside every weight and the sin which so easily entangles us, let us (B)run with (C)endurance the race that is set before us, [a]fixing our eyes on Jesus, the [b](D)author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him (E)endured the cross, (F)despising the shame, and has (G)sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

For (H)consider Him who has endured such hostility by sinners against Himself, so that you will not grow weary, (I)fainting [c]in heart.

The Father’s Discipline

(J)You have not yet resisted [d](K)to the point of shedding blood in your striving against sin. And you have forgotten the exhortation which is addressed to you as sons,

(L)My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the [e]Lord,
Nor (M)faint when you are reproved by Him;
(N)For those (O)whom the [f]Lord loves He disciplines,
And He flogs every son whom He receives.”

It is for discipline that you endure; (P)God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom his father does not discipline? But if you are without discipline, (Q)of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate children and not sons. Furthermore, we [g]had [h]earthly fathers to discipline us, and we (R)respected them. Shall we not much rather be subject to (S)the Father of [i]spirits, and (T)live? 10 For they disciplined us for a short time as seemed best to them, but He disciplines us for our benefit, (U)so that we may share His holiness. 11 And all discipline (V)for the moment seems not to be joyful, but sorrowful, but to those who have been trained by it, afterwards it yields the (W)peaceful fruit of righteousness.

12 Therefore, [j](X)strengthen the hands that are weak and the knees that are feeble, 13 and (Y)make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be put out of joint, but rather (Z)be healed.

14 (AA)Pursue peace with all men, and the (AB)sanctification without which no one will (AC)see the Lord, 15 seeing to it that no one (AD)falls short of the grace of God; that no (AE)root of bitterness springing up causes trouble, and by it many be (AF)defiled; 16 that also there be no (AG)sexually immoral or (AH)godless person like Esau, (AI)who sold his own birthright for a single meal. 17 For you know that even afterwards, (AJ)when he desired to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, for he found no place for repentance, though he sought for it with tears.

Contrast of Sinai and Zion

18 (AK)For you have not come to (AL)a mountain that can be touched and to a blazing fire, and to darkness and gloom and whirlwind, 19 and to the (AM)blast of a trumpet and the (AN)sound of words which was such that those who heard (AO)begged that no further word be spoken to them. 20 For they could not bear what was being commanded, “(AP)If even a beast touches the mountain, it will be stoned.” 21 And so terrible was what appeared, that Moses said, “(AQ)I am full of fear and trembling.” 22 But (AR)you have come to Mount Zion and to (AS)the city of (AT)the living God, (AU)the heavenly Jerusalem, and to (AV)myriads of [k]angels, 23 to the festal gathering and (AW)assembly of the firstborn who (AX)are enrolled in heaven, and to God, (AY)the Judge of all, and to the (AZ)spirits of the righteous made perfect, 24 and to Jesus, the (BA)mediator of a new covenant, and to the (BB)sprinkled blood, which speaks better than (BC)the blood of Abel.

An Unshakable Kingdom

25 (BD)See to it that you do not refuse Him who is (BE)speaking. For (BF)if those did not escape when they (BG)refused him who (BH)warned them on earth, [l]much less will we escape who turn away from Him who (BI)warns from heaven. 26 And (BJ)His voice shook the earth then, but now He has promised, saying, “(BK)Yet once more I will shake not only the earth, but also the heaven.” 27 Now this expression, “Yet once more,” indicates (BL)the removing of those things which can be shaken, as of created things, so that those things which cannot be shaken may remain. 28 Therefore, since we are receiving a (BM)kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us [m]show gratitude, by which we may (BN)offer to God an acceptable service with reverence and awe; 29 for (BO)our God is a consuming fire.
