The Various Offerings of the Seventh Month

29 (A)Now in the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you shall also have a holy convocation; (B)you shall do no laborious work. It will be to you a day for blowing trumpets. And you shall offer a burnt offering as a soothing aroma to Yahweh: one bull from the herd, one ram, and seven male lambs one year old without blemish; also their grain offering, fine flour mixed with oil: three-tenths of an [a]ephah for the bull, two-tenths for the ram, and one-tenth for [b]each of the seven lambs. And offer one male goat for a sin offering, to make atonement for you, (C)besides the burnt offering of the new moon and its grain offering, and the (D)continual burnt offering and its grain offering, and their drink offerings, according to their legal judgment, for a soothing aroma, an offering by fire to Yahweh.

‘Then on (E)the tenth day of this seventh month you shall have a holy convocation, and you shall humble yourselves; you shall not do any work. And you shall bring near a burnt offering to Yahweh as a soothing aroma: one bull from the herd, one ram, seven male lambs one year old, (F)having them without blemish; and their grain offering, fine flour mixed with oil: three-tenths of an [c]ephah for the bull, two-tenths for the one ram, 10 a tenth for each of the seven lambs; 11 one male goat for a sin offering, besides (G)the sin offering of atonement and (H)the continual burnt offering and its grain offering and their drink offerings.

12 ‘Then on (I)the fifteenth day of the seventh month you shall have a holy convocation; you (J)shall do no laborious work, and you shall celebrate a feast to Yahweh for seven days. 13 And you shall bring near a burnt offering, an offering by fire as a soothing aroma to Yahweh: thirteen bulls from the herd, two rams, fourteen male lambs one year old, which are without blemish; 14 and their grain offering, fine flour mixed with oil: three-tenths of an [d]ephah for [e]each of the thirteen bulls, two-tenths for [f]each of the two rams, 15 and a tenth for each of the fourteen lambs; 16 and one male goat for a sin offering, (K)besides the continual burnt offering, its grain offering, and its drink offering.

17 ‘Then on (L)the second day: twelve bulls from the herd, two rams, fourteen male lambs one year old without blemish; 18 and their grain offering and their drink offerings for the bulls, for the rams and for the lambs, by their number (M)according to the legal judgment; 19 and one male goat for a sin offering, (N)besides the continual burnt offering and its grain offering and their drink offerings.

20 ‘Then on the third day: eleven bulls, two rams, fourteen male lambs one year old without blemish; 21 and their grain offering and their drink offerings for the bulls, for the rams and for the lambs, by their number according to the legal judgment; 22 and one male goat for a sin offering, besides the continual burnt offering and its grain offering and its drink offering.

23 ‘Then on the fourth day: ten bulls, two rams, fourteen male lambs one year old without blemish; 24 their grain offering and their drink offerings for the bulls, for the rams and for the lambs, by their number according to the legal judgment; 25 and one male goat for a sin offering, besides the continual burnt offering, its grain offering and its drink offering.

26 ‘Then on the fifth day: nine bulls, two rams, fourteen male lambs one year old (O)without blemish; 27 and their grain offering and their drink offerings for the bulls, for the rams and for the lambs, by their number according to the legal judgment; 28 and one male goat for a sin offering, besides the continual burnt offering and its grain offering and its drink offering.

29 ‘Then on the sixth day: eight bulls, two rams, fourteen male lambs one year old without blemish; 30 and their grain offering and their drink offerings for the bulls, for the rams and for the lambs, by their number according to the legal judgment; 31 and one male goat for a sin offering, besides the continual burnt offering, its grain offering and its drink offerings.

32 ‘Then on the seventh day: seven bulls, two rams, fourteen male lambs one year old without blemish; 33 and their grain offering and their drink offerings for the bulls, for the rams and for the lambs, by their number according to the legal judgment; 34 and one male goat for a sin offering, besides the continual burnt offering, its grain offering and its drink offering.

35 (P)On the eighth day you shall have a solemn assembly; you shall do no laborious work. 36 But you shall bring near a burnt offering, an offering by fire, as a soothing aroma to Yahweh: one bull, one ram, seven male lambs one year old without blemish; 37 their grain offering and their drink offerings for the bull, for the ram and for the lambs, by their number according to the legal judgment; 38 and one male goat for a sin offering, besides the continual burnt offering and its grain offering and its drink offering.

39 ‘You shall offer these to Yahweh at your (Q)appointed times, besides your [g]votive offerings and your freewill offerings, for your burnt offerings and for your grain offerings and for your drink offerings and for your peace offerings.’” 40 [h]And Moses spoke to the sons of Israel according to all that Yahweh had commanded Moses.

Psalm 73

BOOK 3

The Nearness of God Is My Good

A Psalm of Asaph.

73 Surely God is (A)good to Israel,
To those who are (B)pure in heart!
But as for me, (C)my feet had almost stumbled,
My steps [a]had almost slipped.
For I was (D)envious of the boastful,
I saw the (E)peace of the wicked.
For there are no pains in their death,
And their [b]body is fat.
They are (F)not [c]in trouble as other [d]men,
And they are not (G)stricken along with the rest of mankind.
Therefore lofty pride is (H)their necklace;
The (I)garment of violence covers them.
Their eye [e]bulges from (J)fatness;
The delusions of their heart overflow.
They (K)scoff and [f]wickedly speak of oppression;
They (L)speak from on high.
They have (M)set their mouth [g]against the heavens,
And their tongue goes through the earth.

10 Therefore [h]his people return here, to his place,
And waters of (N)fullness are [i]drunk by them.
11 They say, “(O)How does God know?
And is there knowledge with the Most High?”
12 Behold, (P)these are the wicked;
And always (Q)at ease, they have increased in wealth.
13 Surely (R)in vain I have [j]kept my heart pure
And (S)washed my hands in innocence;
14 For I have been stricken (T)all day long
And [k](U)reproved every morning.

15 If I had said, “I will recount thus,”
Behold, I would have betrayed the (V)generation of Your children.
16 When I (W)gave thought to know this,
It was trouble in my sight
17 Until I came into the [l](X)sanctuary of God;
Then I understood their (Y)end.
18 Surely You set them in (Z)slippery places;
You cause them to fall to [m](AA)destruction.
19 How they become (AB)desolate in a moment!
They are completely swept away by (AC)terrors!
20 Like a (AD)dream when one awakes,
O Lord, when (AE)aroused, You will (AF)despise their [n]form.

21 When my (AG)heart was embittered
And I was (AH)pierced [o]within,
22 Then I was (AI)senseless and ignorant;
I was like [p]an (AJ)animal [q]before You.
23 Nevertheless (AK)I am continually with You;
You have taken hold of my right hand.
24 With Your counsel You will (AL)lead me,
And afterward (AM)take me [r]in glory.

25 (AN)Whom have I in heaven but You?
And [s]besides You, I desire nothing on earth.
26 My (AO)flesh and my heart fail,
But God is the rock of my heart and my (AP)portion forever.
27 For, behold, (AQ)those who are far from You will (AR)perish;
You have [t]destroyed everyone who [u](AS)is unfaithful to You.
28 But as for me, (AT)the nearness of God is my good;
I have set Lord Yahweh as my (AU)refuge,
That I may (AV)recount all Your works.

Isaiah 21

Fallen, Fallen Is Babylon

21 The [a](A)oracle concerning the [b](B)wilderness of the sea.

As (C)whirlwinds in the [c]Negev sweep on,
It comes from the wilderness, from a fearsome land.
A (D)harsh vision has been declared to me;
The (E)treacherous one still deals treacherously, and the destroyer still destroys.
Go up, (F)Elam, lay siege, Media;
I have made an end of all [d]the groaning she has caused.
For this reason my (G)loins are full of anguish;
Pains have seized me like the pains of a (H)woman in labor.
I am so bewildered I cannot hear, so terrified I cannot see.
My heart [e]reels; [f]horror terrorizes me;
The twilight I longed for has been (I)turned for me into trembling.
They (J)set the table, they [g]spread out the cloth, they eat, they drink;
“Rise up, commanders, oil the shields,”

For thus the Lord says to me,

“Go, station the lookout, let him (K)declare what he sees.
Indeed, he shall see (L)riders, horsemen in pairs,
Riders of donkeys, riders of camels,
So let him pay close attention, very close attention.”

Then [h]the lookout called,

(M)O Lord, I stand continually by day on the watchtower,
And I am stationed every night at my guard post.
Now behold, here comes a troop of riders, horsemen in pairs.”
And one answered and said, “(N)Fallen, fallen is Babylon;
And all the (O)graven images of her gods [i]are shattered on the ground.”
10 O my (P)trampled people and my [j]afflicted of the threshing floor!
What I have heard from Yahweh of hosts,
The God of Israel, I have declared to you.

Oracles Concerning Dumah and Arabia

11 The [k]oracle concerning [l](Q)Dumah.

One keeps calling to me from (R)Seir,
“Watchman, [m]how far gone is the night?
Watchman, [n]how far gone is the night?”
12 The watchman says,
“Morning comes but also night.
If you would inquire, inquire;
Come back again.”

13 The [o]oracle about [p](S)Arabia.

In the thickets of [q]Arabia you [r]must spend the night,
O caravans of (T)Dedanites.
14 Bring water to meet the thirsty,
O inhabitants of the land of (U)Tema,
Meet with bread the one who has fled.
15 For they have (V)fled from the swords,
From the drawn sword, and from the bent bow
And from the heaviness of battle.

16 For thus the Lord said to me, “In a (W)year, as [s]a hired man would count it, all the glory of (X)Kedar will end; 17 and the (Y)remainder of the number of bowmen, the mighty men of the sons of Kedar, will be few; for Yahweh, the God of Israel, (Z)has spoken.”

2 Peter 2

The Rise of False Prophets

But (A)false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will also be (B)false teachers (C)among you, who will (D)secretly introduce (E)destructive heresies, even (F)denying the (G)Master who (H)bought them, bringing swift destruction upon themselves. And many will follow their (I)sensuality, and because of them (J)the way of the truth will be (K)maligned. And in their (L)greed they will (M)exploit you with (N)false words, (O)their judgment from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep.

For (P)if God did not spare angels who sinned, but cast them into the [a]pit and (Q)delivered them to chains of darkness, being kept for judgment; and did not spare (R)the ancient world, but preserved (S)Noah, a [b]preacher of righteousness, with seven others, when He brought a (T)flood upon the world of the ungodly; and if He (U)condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah to destruction by reducing them to ashes, having made them an (V)example to those who would (W)live ungodly lives thereafter; and if He (X)rescued righteous Lot, oppressed by the (Y)sensual conduct of (Z)unprincipled men (for by what he saw and heard that (AA)righteous man, while living among them, felt his righteous soul tormented day after day by their lawless deeds), (AB)then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from [c]trial, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment for the (AC)day of judgment, 10 and especially those who (AD)go after the flesh in its corrupt lust and (AE)despise authority.

Daring, (AF)self-willed, they do not tremble when they (AG)blaspheme [d]glorious ones, 11 (AH)whereas angels who are greater in strength and power do not bring a reviling judgment against them before the Lord. 12 But (AI)these, like unreasoning animals, (AJ)born as creatures of instinct to be captured and killed, blaspheming where they have no knowledge, will in [e]the destruction of those creatures also be destroyed, 13 suffering unrighteousness as (AK)the wages of their unrighteousness, considering it a pleasure to (AL)revel in the (AM)daytime—they are stains and blemishes, (AN)reveling in their [f]deceptions, as they (AO)feast with you, 14 having eyes full of adultery and unceasing sin, (AP)enticing (AQ)unstable souls, having a heart trained in (AR)greed—they are (AS)accursed children. 15 Forsaking (AT)the right way, they have gone astray, having followed (AU)the way of Balaam, the son of Beor, who loved (AV)the wages of unrighteousness, 16 but he received a rebuke for his own lawlessness, (AW)for a mute donkey, speaking out with a voice of a man, restrained the madness of the prophet.

17 These are (AX)springs without water and mists driven by a storm, (AY)for whom the [g]black darkness has been kept. 18 For speaking out (AZ)arrogant words of (BA)vanity, they (BB)entice by (BC)sensual lusts of the flesh, those who barely (BD)escape from the ones who conducted themselves in error, 19 promising them freedom while they themselves are slaves of corruption; for (BE)by what a man is overcome, by this he is enslaved. 20 For if they are overcome, having both (BF)escaped the defilements of the world by (BG)the knowledge of the (BH)Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and having again been (BI)entangled in them, then (BJ)the last state has become worse for them than the first. 21 (BK)For it would be better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn away from (BL)the holy commandment (BM)handed on to them. 22 The [h]message of the true proverb has happened to them, “(BN)A dog returns to its own vomit,” and, “A sow, after washing, returns to wallowing in the mire.”
