Revelation 1-4

Prologue

1 The revelation from Jesus Christ, which God gave^(A) him to show his servants what must soon take place.^(B) He made it known by sending his angel^(C) to his servant John,^(D) ²who testifies to everything he saw—that is, the word of God^(E) and the testimony of Jesus Christ.^(F) ³Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it,^(G) because the time is near.^(H)

Greetings and Doxology

⁴John,

To the seven churches^(I) in the province of Asia:

Grace and peace to you^(J) from him who is, and who was, and who is to come,^(K) and from the seven spirits^[a]^(L) before his throne, ⁵and from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness,^(M) the firstborn from the dead,^(N) and the ruler of the kings of the earth.^(O)

To him who loves us^(P) and has freed us from our sins by his blood,^(Q) ⁶and has made us to be a kingdom and priests^(R) to serve his God and Father^(S)—to him be glory and power for ever and ever! Amen.^(T)

⁷“Look, he is coming with the clouds,”^[b]^(U)
and “every eye will see him,
even those who pierced him”;^(V)
and all peoples on earth “will mourn^(W) because of him.”^[c]
So shall it be! Amen.

⁸“I am the Alpha and the Omega,”^(X) says the Lord God, “who is, and who was, and who is to come,^(Y) the Almighty.”^(Z)

John’s Vision of Christ

⁹I, John,^(AA) your brother and companion in the suffering^(AB) and kingdom^(AC) and patient endurance^(AD) that are ours in Jesus, was on the island of Patmos because of the word of God^(AE) and the testimony of Jesus.^(AF) ¹⁰On the Lord’s Day^(AG) I was in the Spirit,^(AH) and I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet,^(AI) ¹¹which said: “Write on a scroll what you see^(AJ) and send it to the seven churches:^(AK) to Ephesus,^(AL) Smyrna,^(AM) Pergamum,^(AN) Thyatira,^(AO) Sardis,^(AP) Philadelphia^(AQ) and Laodicea.”^(AR)

¹²I turned around to see the voice that was speaking to me. And when I turned I saw seven golden lampstands,^(AS) ¹³and among the lampstands^(AT) was someone like a son of man,^[d]^(AU) dressed in a robe reaching down to his feet^(AV) and with a golden sash around his chest.^(AW) ¹⁴The hair on his head was white like wool, as white as snow, and his eyes were like blazing fire.^(AX) ¹⁵His feet were like bronze glowing in a furnace,^(AY) and his voice was like the sound of rushing waters.^(AZ) ¹⁶In his right hand he held seven stars,^(BA) and coming out of his mouth was a sharp, double-edged sword.^(BB) His face was like the sun^(BC) shining in all its brilliance.

¹⁷When I saw him, I fell at his feet^(BD) as though dead. Then he placed his right hand on me^(BE) and said: “Do not be afraid.^(BF) I am the First and the Last.^(BG) ¹⁸I am the Living One; I was dead,^(BH) and now look, I am alive for ever and ever!^(BI) And I hold the keys of death and Hades.^(BJ)

¹⁹“Write, therefore, what you have seen,^(BK) what is now and what will take place later. ²⁰The mystery of the seven stars that you saw in my right hand^(BL) and of the seven golden lampstands^(BM) is this: The seven stars are the angels^[e] of the seven churches,^(BN) and the seven lampstands are the seven churches.^(BO)

To the Church in Ephesus

2 “To the angel^[f] of the church in Ephesus^(BP) write:

These are the words of him who holds the seven stars in his right hand^(BQ) and walks among the seven golden lampstands.^(BR) ²I know your deeds,^(BS) your hard work and your perseverance. I know that you cannot tolerate wicked people, that you have tested^(BT) those who claim to be apostles but are not, and have found them false.^(BU) ³You have persevered and have endured hardships for my name,^(BV) and have not grown weary.

⁴Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken the love you had at first.^(BW) ⁵Consider how far you have fallen! Repent^(BX) and do the things you did at first. If you do not repent, I will come to you and remove your lampstand^(BY) from its place. ⁶But you have this in your favor: You hate the practices of the Nicolaitans,^(BZ) which I also hate.

⁷Whoever has ears, let them hear^(CA) what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who is victorious,^(CB) I will give the right to eat from the tree of life,^(CC) which is in the paradise^(CD) of God.

To the Church in Smyrna

⁸“To the angel of the church in Smyrna^(CE) write:

These are the words of him who is the First and the Last,^(CF) who died and came to life again.^(CG) ⁹I know your afflictions and your poverty—yet you are rich!^(CH) I know about the slander of those who say they are Jews and are not,^(CI) but are a synagogue of Satan.^(CJ) ¹⁰Do not be afraid of what you are about to suffer. I tell you, the devil will put some of you in prison to test you,^(CK) and you will suffer persecution for ten days.^(CL) Be faithful,^(CM) even to the point of death, and I will give you life as your victor’s crown.^(CN)

¹¹Whoever has ears, let them hear^(CO) what the Spirit says to the churches. The one who is victorious will not be hurt at all by the second death.^(CP)

To the Church in Pergamum

¹²“To the angel of the church in Pergamum^(CQ) write:

These are the words of him who has the sharp, double-edged sword.^(CR) ¹³I know where you live—where Satan has his throne. Yet you remain true to my name. You did not renounce your faith in me,^(CS) not even in the days of Antipas, my faithful witness,^(CT) who was put to death in your city—where Satan lives.^(CU)

¹⁴Nevertheless, I have a few things against you:^(CV) There are some among you who hold to the teaching of Balaam,^(CW) who taught Balak to entice the Israelites to sin so that they ate food sacrificed to idols^(CX) and committed sexual immorality.^(CY) ¹⁵Likewise, you also have those who hold to the teaching of the Nicolaitans.^(CZ) ¹⁶Repent^(DA) therefore! Otherwise, I will soon come to you and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.^(DB)

¹⁷Whoever has ears, let them hear^(DC) what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who is victorious,^(DD) I will give some of the hidden manna.^(DE) I will also give that person a white stone with a new name^(DF) written on it, known only to the one who receives it.^(DG)

To the Church in Thyatira

¹⁸“To the angel of the church in Thyatira^(DH) write:

These are the words of the Son of God,^(DI) whose eyes are like blazing fire and whose feet are like burnished bronze.^(DJ) ¹⁹I know your deeds,^(DK) your love and faith, your service and perseverance, and that you are now doing more than you did at first.

²⁰Nevertheless, I have this against you: You tolerate that woman Jezebel,^(DL) who calls herself a prophet. By her teaching she misleads my servants into sexual immorality and the eating of food sacrificed to idols.^(DM) ²¹I have given her time^(DN) to repent of her immorality, but she is unwilling.^(DO) ²²So I will cast her on a bed of suffering, and I will make those who commit adultery^(DP) with her suffer intensely, unless they repent of her ways. ²³I will strike her children dead. Then all the churches will know that I am he who searches hearts and minds,^(DQ) and I will repay each of you according to your deeds.^(DR)

²⁴Now I say to the rest of you in Thyatira, to you who do not hold to her teaching and have not learned Satan’s so-called deep secrets, ‘I will not impose any other burden on you,^(DS) ²⁵except to hold on to what you have^(DT) until I come.’^(DU)

²⁶To the one who is victorious^(DV) and does my will to the end,^(DW) I will give authority over the nations^(DX)— ²⁷that one ‘will rule them with an iron scepter^(DY) and will dash them to pieces like pottery’^[g]^(DZ)—just as I have received authority from my Father. ²⁸I will also give that one the morning star.^(EA) ²⁹Whoever has ears, let them hear^(EB) what the Spirit says to the churches.

To the Church in Sardis

3 “To the angel^[h] of the church in Sardis^(EC) write:

These are the words of him who holds the seven spirits^[i]^(ED) of God and the seven stars.^(EE) I know your deeds;^(EF) you have a reputation of being alive, but you are dead.^(EG) ²Wake up! Strengthen what remains and is about to die, for I have found your deeds unfinished in the sight of my God. ³Remember, therefore, what you have received and heard; hold it fast, and repent.^(EH) But if you do not wake up, I will come like a thief,^(EI) and you will not know at what time^(EJ) I will come to you.

⁴Yet you have a few people in Sardis who have not soiled their clothes.^(EK) They will walk with me, dressed in white,^(EL) for they are worthy. ⁵The one who is victorious^(EM) will, like them, be dressed in white.^(EN) I will never blot out the name of that person from the book of life,^(EO) but will acknowledge that name before my Father^(EP) and his angels. ⁶Whoever has ears, let them hear^(EQ) what the Spirit says to the churches.

To the Church in Philadelphia

⁷“To the angel of the church in Philadelphia^(ER) write:

These are the words of him who is holy^(ES) and true,^(ET) who holds the key of David.^(EU) What he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open. ⁸I know your deeds.^(EV) See, I have placed before you an open door^(EW) that no one can shut. I know that you have little strength, yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name.^(EX) ⁹I will make those who are of the synagogue of Satan,^(EY) who claim to be Jews though they are not,^(EZ) but are liars—I will make them come and fall down at your feet^(FA) and acknowledge that I have loved you.^(FB) ¹⁰Since you have kept my command to endure patiently, I will also keep you^(FC) from the hour of trial that is going to come on the whole world^(FD) to test^(FE) the inhabitants of the earth.^(FF)

¹¹I am coming soon.^(FG) Hold on to what you have,^(FH) so that no one will take your crown.^(FI) ¹²The one who is victorious^(FJ) I will make a pillar^(FK) in the temple of my God. Never again will they leave it. I will write on them the name of my God^(FL) and the name of the city of my God,^(FM) the new Jerusalem,^(FN) which is coming down out of heaven from my God; and I will also write on them my new name. ¹³Whoever has ears, let them hear^(FO) what the Spirit says to the churches.

To the Church in Laodicea

¹⁴“To the angel of the church in Laodicea^(FP) write:

These are the words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness,^(FQ) the ruler of God’s creation.^(FR) ¹⁵I know your deeds,^(FS) that you are neither cold nor hot.^(FT) I wish you were either one or the other! ¹⁶So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth. ¹⁷You say, ‘I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.’^(FU) But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked.^(FV) ¹⁸I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire,^(FW) so you can become rich; and white clothes^(FX) to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness;^(FY) and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see.

¹⁹Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline.^(FZ) So be earnest and repent.^(GA) ²⁰Here I am! I stand at the door^(GB) and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door,^(GC) I will come in^(GD) and eat with that person, and they with me.

²¹To the one who is victorious,^(GE) I will give the right to sit with me on my throne,^(GF) just as I was victorious^(GG) and sat down with my Father on his throne. ²²Whoever has ears, let them hear^(GH) what the Spirit says to the churches.”

The Throne in Heaven

4 After this I looked, and there before me was a door standing open^(GI) in heaven. And the voice I had first heard speaking to me like a trumpet^(GJ) said, “Come up here,^(GK) and I will show you what must take place after this.”^(GL) ²At once I was in the Spirit,^(GM) and there before me was a throne in heaven^(GN) with someone sitting on it. ³And the one who sat there had the appearance of jasper^(GO) and ruby.^(GP) A rainbow^(GQ) that shone like an emerald^(GR) encircled the throne. ⁴Surrounding the throne were twenty-four other thrones, and seated on them were twenty-four elders.^(GS) They were dressed in white^(GT) and had crowns of gold on their heads. ⁵From the throne came flashes of lightning, rumblings and peals of thunder.^(GU) In front of the throne, seven lamps^(GV) were blazing. These are the seven spirits^[j]^(GW) of God. ⁶Also in front of the throne there was what looked like a sea of glass,^(GX) clear as crystal.

In the center, around the throne, were four living creatures,^(GY) and they were covered with eyes, in front and in back.^(GZ) ⁷The first living creature was like a lion, the second was like an ox, the third had a face like a man, the fourth was like a flying eagle.^(HA) ⁸Each of the four living creatures^(HB) had six wings^(HC) and was covered with eyes all around,^(HD) even under its wings. Day and night^(HE) they never stop saying:

“‘Holy, holy, holy

is the Lord God Almighty,’^[k]^(HF)

who was, and is, and is to come.”^(HG)

⁹Whenever the living creatures give glory, honor and thanks to him who sits on the throne^(HH) and who lives for ever and ever,^(HI) ¹⁰the twenty-four elders^(HJ) fall down before him^(HK) who sits on the throne^(HL) and worship him who lives for ever and ever. They lay their crowns before the throne and say:

¹¹“You are worthy, our Lord and God,
    to receive glory and honor and power,^(HM)
for you created all things,
    and by your will they were created
    and have their being.”^(HN)

1 The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John:

²Who bare record of the word of God, and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, and of all things that he saw.

³Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.

⁴John to the seven churches which are in Asia: Grace be unto you, and peace, from him which is, and which was, and which is to come; and from the seven Spirits which are before his throne;

⁵And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,

⁶And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

⁷Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.

⁹I John, who also am your brother, and companion in tribulation, and in the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was in the isle that is called Patmos, for the word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus Christ.

¹⁰I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet,

¹¹Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: and, What thou seest, write in a book, and send it unto the seven churches which are in Asia; unto Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamos, and unto Thyatira, and unto Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea.

¹²And I turned to see the voice that spake with me. And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks;

¹³And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle.

¹⁴His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire;

¹⁵And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters.

¹⁶And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength.

¹⁷And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last:

¹⁸I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.

¹⁹Write the things which thou hast seen, and the things which are, and the things which shall be hereafter;

²⁰The mystery of the seven stars which thou sawest in my right hand, and the seven golden candlesticks. The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches: and the seven candlesticks which thou sawest are the seven churches.

2 Unto the angel of the church of Ephesus write; These things saith he that holdeth the seven stars in his right hand, who walketh in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks;

²I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars:

³And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name's sake hast laboured, and hast not fainted.

⁴Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.

⁵Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.

⁶But this thou hast, that thou hatest the deeds of the Nicolaitanes, which I also hate.

⁷He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.

⁸And unto the angel of the church in Smyrna write; These things saith the first and the last, which was dead, and is alive;

⁹I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art rich) and I know the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan.

¹⁰Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.

¹¹He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.

¹²And to the angel of the church in Pergamos write; These things saith he which hath the sharp sword with two edges;

¹³I know thy works, and where thou dwellest, even where Satan's seat is: and thou holdest fast my name, and hast not denied my faith, even in those days wherein Antipas was my faithful martyr, who was slain among you, where Satan dwelleth.

¹⁴But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication.

¹⁵So hast thou also them that hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitanes, which thing I hate.

¹⁶Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.

¹⁷He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.

¹⁸And unto the angel of the church in Thyatira write; These things saith the Son of God, who hath his eyes like unto a flame of fire, and his feet are like fine brass;

¹⁹I know thy works, and charity, and service, and faith, and thy patience, and thy works; and the last to be more than the first.

²⁰Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols.

²¹And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she repented not.

²²Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds.

²³And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works.

²⁴But unto you I say, and unto the rest in Thyatira, as many as have not this doctrine, and which have not known the depths of Satan, as they speak; I will put upon you none other burden.

²⁵But that which ye have already hold fast till I come.

²⁶And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations:

²⁷And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father.

²⁸And I will give him the morning star.

²⁹He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

3 And unto the angel of the church in Sardis write; These things saith he that hath the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars; I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead.

²Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die: for I have not found thy works perfect before God.

³Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee.

⁴Thou hast a few names even in Sardis which have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with me in white: for they are worthy.

⁵He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.

⁶He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

⁷And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; These things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth;

⁸I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name.

⁹Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee.

¹⁰Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.

¹¹Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.

¹²Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.

¹³He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

¹⁴And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;

¹⁵I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.

¹⁶So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.

¹⁷Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:

¹⁸I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.

¹⁹As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.

²⁰Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

²¹To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.

²²He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

4 After this I looked, and, behold, a door was opened in heaven: and the first voice which I heard was as it were of a trumpet talking with me; which said, Come up hither, and I will shew thee things which must be hereafter.

²And immediately I was in the spirit: and, behold, a throne was set in heaven, and one sat on the throne.

³And he that sat was to look upon like a jasper and a sardine stone: and there was a rainbow round about the throne, in sight like unto an emerald.

⁴And round about the throne were four and twenty seats: and upon the seats I saw four and twenty elders sitting, clothed in white raiment; and they had on their heads crowns of gold.

⁵And out of the throne proceeded lightnings and thunderings and voices: and there were seven lamps of fire burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God.

⁶And before the throne there was a sea of glass like unto crystal: and in the midst of the throne, and round about the throne, were four beasts full of eyes before and behind.

⁷And the first beast was like a lion, and the second beast like a calf, and the third beast had a face as a man, and the fourth beast was like a flying eagle.

⁸And the four beasts had each of them six wings about him; and they were full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come.

⁹And when those beasts give glory and honour and thanks to him that sat on the throne, who liveth for ever and ever,

¹⁰The four and twenty elders fall down before him that sat on the throne, and worship him that liveth for ever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying,

¹¹Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.

And ^(B)He sent and signified it by His angel to His servant John, ²^(C)who bore witness to the word of God, and to the testimony of Jesus Christ, to all things ^(D)that he saw. ³^(E)Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written in it; for ^(F)the time is near.

Greeting the Seven Churches

⁴John, to the seven churches which are in Asia:

Grace to you and peace from Him ^(G)who is and ^(H)who was and who is to come, ^(I)and from the seven Spirits who are before His throne, ⁵and from Jesus Christ, ^(J)the faithful ^(K)witness, the ^(L)firstborn from the dead, and ^(M)the ruler over the kings of the earth.

To Him ^(N)who ^[b]loved us ^(O)and washed us from our sins in His own blood, ⁶and has ^(P)made us ^[c]kings and priests to His God and Father, ^(Q)to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.

⁷Behold, He is coming with ^(R)clouds, and every eye will see Him, even ^(S)they who pierced Him. And all the tribes of the earth will mourn because of Him. Even so, Amen.

⁸^(T)“I am the Alpha and the Omega, ^[d]the Beginning and the End,” says the ^[e]Lord, ^(U)“who is and who was and who is to come, the ^(V)Almighty.”

Vision of the Son of Man

⁹I, John, ^[f]both your brother and ^(W)companion in the tribulation and ^(X)kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was on the island that is called Patmos for the word of God and for the testimony of Jesus Christ. ¹⁰^(Y)I was in the Spirit on ^(Z)the Lord’s Day, and I heard behind me ^(AA)a loud voice, as of a trumpet, ¹¹saying, ^[g]“I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last,” and, “What you see, write in a book and send it to the seven churches ^[h]which are in Asia: to Ephesus, to Smyrna, to Pergamos, to Thyatira, to Sardis, to Philadelphia, and to Laodicea.”

¹²Then I turned to see the voice that spoke with me. And having turned ^(AB)I saw seven golden lampstands, ¹³^(AC)and in the midst of the seven lampstands ^(AD)One like the Son of Man, ^(AE)clothed with a garment down to the feet and ^(AF)girded about the chest with a golden band. ¹⁴His head and ^(AG)hair were white like wool, as white as snow, and ^(AH)His eyes like a flame of fire; ¹⁵^(AI)His feet were like fine brass, as if refined in a furnace, and ^(AJ)His voice as the sound of many waters; ¹⁶^(AK)He had in His right hand seven stars, ^(AL)out of His mouth went a sharp two-edged sword, ^(AM)and His countenance was like the sun shining in its strength. ¹⁷And ^(AN)when I saw Him, I fell at His feet as dead. But ^(AO)He laid His right hand on me, saying ^[i]to me, “Do not be afraid; ^(AP)I am the First and the Last. ¹⁸^(AQ)I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, ^(AR)I am alive forevermore. Amen. And ^(AS)I have the keys of ^[j]Hades and of Death. ¹⁹^[k]Write the things which you have ^(AT)seen, ^(AU)and the things which are, ^(AV)and the things which will take place after this. ²⁰The ^[l]mystery of the seven stars which you saw in My right hand, and the seven golden lampstands: The seven stars are ^(AW)the ^[m]angels of the seven churches, and ^(AX)the seven lampstands ^[n]which you saw are the seven churches.

The Loveless Church

2 “To the ^[o]angel of the church of Ephesus write,

‘These things says ^(AY)He who holds the seven stars in His right hand, ^(AZ)who walks in the midst of the seven golden lampstands: ²^(BA)“I know your works, your labor, your ^[p]patience, and that you cannot ^[q]bear those who are evil. And ^(BB)you have tested those ^(BC)who say they are apostles and are not, and have found them liars; ³and you have persevered and have patience, and have labored for My name’s sake and have ^(BD)not become weary. ⁴Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love. ⁵Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, ^(BE)or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lampstand from its place—unless you repent. ⁶But this you have, that you hate the deeds of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate.

⁷^(BF)“He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will give ^(BG)to eat from ^(BH)the tree of life, which is in the midst of the Paradise of God.” ’

The Persecuted Church

⁸“And to the ^[r]angel of the church in Smyrna write,

‘These things says ^(BI)the First and the Last, who was dead, and came to life: ⁹“I know your works, tribulation, and poverty (but you are ^(BJ)rich); and I know the blasphemy of ^(BK)those who say they are Jews and are not, ^(BL)but are a ^[s]synagogue of Satan. ¹⁰^(BM)Do not fear any of those things which you are about to suffer. Indeed, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and you will have tribulation ten days. ^(BN)Be faithful until death, and I will give you ^(BO)the crown of life.

¹¹^(BP)“He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. He who overcomes shall not be hurt by ^(BQ)the second death.” ’

The Compromising Church

¹²“And to the ^[t]angel of the church in Pergamos write,

‘These things says ^(BR)He who has the sharp two-edged sword: ¹³“I know your works, and where you dwell, where Satan’s throne is. And you hold fast to My name, and did not deny My faith even in the days in which Antipas was My faithful martyr, who was killed among you, where Satan dwells. ¹⁴But I have a few things against you, because you have there those who hold the doctrine of ^(BS)Balaam, who taught Balak to put a stumbling block before the children of Israel, ^(BT)to eat things sacrificed to idols, ^(BU)and to commit sexual immorality. ¹⁵Thus you also have those who hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitans, ^[u]which thing I hate. ¹⁶Repent, or else I will come to you quickly and ^(BV)will fight against them with the sword of My mouth.

¹⁷“He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will give some of the hidden ^(BW)manna to eat. And I will give him a white stone, and on the stone ^(BX)a new name written which no one knows except him who receives it.” ’

The Corrupt Church

¹⁸“And to the ^[v]angel of the church in Thyatira write,

‘These things says the Son of God, ^(BY)who has eyes like a flame of fire, and His feet like fine brass: ¹⁹^(BZ)“I know your works, love, ^[w]service, faith, and your ^[x]patience; and as for your works, the last are more than the first. ²⁰Nevertheless I have ^[y]a few things against you, because you allow ^[z]that woman ^(CA)Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, ^[aa]to teach and seduce My servants ^(CB)to commit sexual immorality and eat things sacrificed to idols. ²¹And I gave her time ^(CC)to ^[ab]repent of her sexual immorality, and she did not repent. ²²Indeed I will cast her into a sickbed, and those who commit adultery with her into great tribulation, unless they repent of ^[ac]their deeds. ²³I will kill her children with death, and all the churches shall know that I am He who ^(CD)searches^[ad] the minds and hearts. And I will give to each one of you according to your works.

²⁴“Now to you I say, ^[ae]and to the rest in Thyatira, as many as do not have this doctrine, who have not known the ^(CE)depths of Satan, as they say, ^(CF)I ^[af]will put on you no other burden. ²⁵But hold fast ^(CG)what you have till I come. ²⁶And he who overcomes, and keeps ^(CH)My works until the end, ^(CI)to him I will give power over the nations—

²⁷‘He^(CJ) shall rule them with a rod of iron;
They shall be dashed to pieces like the potter’s vessels’—

as I also have received from My Father; ²⁸and I will give him ^(CK)the morning star.

The Dead Church

3 “And to the ^[ag]angel of the church in Sardis write,

‘These things says He who ^(CL)has the seven Spirits of God and the seven stars: “I know your works, that you have a name that you are alive, but you are dead. ²Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die, for I have not found your works perfect before ^[ah]God. ³^(CM)Remember therefore how you have received and heard; hold fast and ^(CN)repent. ^(CO)Therefore if you will not watch, I will come upon you ^(CP)as a thief, and you will not know what hour I will come upon you. ⁴^[ai]You have ^(CQ)a few names ^[aj]even in Sardis who have not ^(CR)defiled their garments; and they shall walk with Me ^(CS)in white, for they are worthy. ⁵He who overcomes ^(CT)shall be clothed in white garments, and I will not ^(CU)blot out his name from the ^(CV)Book of Life; but ^(CW)I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels.

The Faithful Church

⁷“And to the ^[ak]angel of the church in Philadelphia write,

‘These things says ^(CY)He who is holy, ^(CZ)He who is true, ^(DA)“He who has the key of David, ^(DB)He who opens and no one shuts, and ^(DC)shuts and no one opens”: ⁸^(DD)“I know your works. See, I have set before you ^(DE)an open door, ^[al]and no one can shut it; for you have a little strength, have kept My word, and have not denied My name. ⁹Indeed I will make ^(DF)those of the synagogue of Satan, who say they are Jews and are not, but lie—indeed ^(DG)I will make them come and worship before your feet, and to know that I have loved you. ¹⁰Because you have kept ^[am]My command to persevere, ^(DH)I also will keep you from the hour of trial which shall come upon ^(DI)the whole world, to test those who dwell ^(DJ)on the earth. ¹¹^[an]Behold, ^(DK)I am coming quickly! ^(DL)Hold fast what you have, that no one may take ^(DM)your crown. ¹²He who overcomes, I will make him ^(DN)a pillar in the temple of My God, and he shall ^(DO)go out no more. ^(DP)I will write on him the name of My God and the name of the city of My God, the ^(DQ)New Jerusalem, which ^(DR)comes down out of heaven from My God. ^(DS)And I will write on him My new name.

The Lukewarm Church

¹⁴“And to the ^[ao]angel of the church ^[ap]of the Laodiceans write,

^(DU)‘These things says the Amen, ^(DV)the Faithful and True Witness, ^(DW)the Beginning of the creation of God: ¹⁵^(DX)“I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. ¹⁶So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither ^[aq]cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth. ¹⁷Because you say, ^(DY)‘I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing’—and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked— ¹⁸I counsel you ^(DZ)to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and ^(EA)white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see. ¹⁹^(EB)As many as I love, I rebuke and ^(EC)chasten.^[ar] Therefore be ^[as]zealous and repent. ²⁰Behold, ^(ED)I stand at the door and knock. ^(EE)If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, ^(EF)I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me. ²¹To him who overcomes ^(EG)I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.

The Throne Room of Heaven^(EI)

4 After these things I looked, and behold, a door standing ^(EJ)open in heaven. And the first voice which I heard was like a ^(EK)trumpet speaking with me, saying, “Come up here, and I will show you things which must take place after this.”

²Immediately ^(EL)I was in the Spirit; and behold, ^(EM)a throne set in heaven, and One sat on the throne. ³^[at]And He who sat there was ^(EN)like a jasper and a sardius stone in appearance; ^(EO)and there was a rainbow around the throne, in appearance like an emerald. ⁴^(EP)Around the throne were twenty-four thrones, and on the thrones I saw twenty-four elders sitting, ^(EQ)clothed in white ^[au]robes; and they had crowns of gold on their heads. ⁵And from the throne proceeded ^(ER)lightnings, ^[av]thunderings, and voices. ^(ES)Seven lamps of fire were burning before the throne, which are ^(ET)the^[aw] seven Spirits of God.

⁶Before the throne there ^[ax]was ^(EU)a sea of glass, like crystal. ^(EV)And in the midst of the throne, and around the throne, were four living creatures full of eyes in front and in back. ⁷^(EW)The first living creature was like a lion, the second living creature like a calf, the third living creature had a face like a man, and the fourth living creature was like a flying eagle. ⁸The four living creatures, each having ^(EX)six wings, were full of eyes around and within. And they do not rest day or night, saying:

⁹Whenever the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to Him who sits on the throne, ^(FB)who lives forever and ever, ¹⁰^(FC)the twenty-four elders fall down before Him who sits on the throne and worship Him who lives forever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying:

¹¹“You^(FD) are worthy, ^[az]O Lord,
To receive glory and honor and power;
^(FE)For You created all things,
And by ^(FF)Your will they ^[ba]exist and were created.”

Threefold Hallelujah Over Babylon’s Fall

19 After this I heard what sounded like the roar of a great multitude^(A) in heaven shouting:

“Hallelujah!^(B)
Salvation^(C) and glory and power^(D) belong to our God,
² for true and just are his judgments.^(E)
He has condemned the great prostitute^(F)
who corrupted the earth by her adulteries.
He has avenged on her the blood of his servants.”^(G)

³And again they shouted:

“Hallelujah!^(H)
The smoke from her goes up for ever and ever.”^(I)

⁴The twenty-four elders^(J) and the four living creatures^(K) fell down^(L) and worshiped God, who was seated on the throne. And they cried:

“Amen, Hallelujah!”^(M)

⁵Then a voice came from the throne, saying:

“Praise our God,
all you his servants,^(N)
you who fear him,

The Heavenly Warrior Defeats the Beast

¹¹I saw heaven standing open^(AG) and there before me was a white horse, whose rider^(AH) is called Faithful and True.^(AI) With justice he judges and wages war.^(AJ) ¹²His eyes are like blazing fire,^(AK) and on his head are many crowns.^(AL) He has a name written on him^(AM) that no one knows but he himself.^(AN) ¹³He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood,^(AO) and his name is the Word of God.^(AP) ¹⁴The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen,^(AQ) white^(AR) and clean. ¹⁵Coming out of his mouth is a sharp sword^(AS) with which to strike down^(AT) the nations. “He will rule them with an iron scepter.”^[a]^(AU) He treads the winepress^(AV) of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty. ¹⁶On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written:^(AW)

king of kings and lord of lords.^(AX)

¹⁷And I saw an angel standing in the sun, who cried in a loud voice to all the birds^(AY) flying in midair,^(AZ) “Come,^(BA) gather together for the great supper of God,^(BB) ¹⁸so that you may eat the flesh of kings, generals, and the mighty, of horses and their riders, and the flesh of all people,^(BC) free and slave,^(BD) great and small.”^(BE)

¹⁹Then I saw the beast^(BF) and the kings of the earth^(BG) and their armies gathered together to wage war against the rider on the horse^(BH) and his army. ²⁰But the beast was captured, and with it the false prophet^(BI) who had performed the signs^(BJ) on its behalf.^(BK) With these signs he had deluded^(BL) those who had received the mark of the beast^(BM) and worshiped its image.^(BN) The two of them were thrown alive into the fiery lake^(BO) of burning sulfur.^(BP) ²¹The rest were killed with the sword^(BQ) coming out of the mouth of the rider on the horse,^(BR) and all the birds^(BS) gorged themselves on their flesh.

The Thousand Years

20 And I saw an angel coming down out of heaven,^(BT) having the key^(BU) to the Abyss^(BV) and holding in his hand a great chain. ²He seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil, or Satan,^(BW) and bound him for a thousand years.^(BX) ³He threw him into the Abyss,^(BY) and locked and sealed^(BZ) it over him, to keep him from deceiving the nations^(CA) anymore until the thousand years were ended. After that, he must be set free for a short time.

⁴I saw thrones^(CB) on which were seated those who had been given authority to judge.^(CC) And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded^(CD) because of their testimony about Jesus^(CE) and because of the word of God.^(CF) They^[b] had not worshiped the beast^(CG) or its image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or their hands.^(CH) They came to life and reigned^(CI) with Christ a thousand years. ⁵(The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended.) This is the first resurrection.^(CJ) ⁶Blessed^(CK) and holy are those who share in the first resurrection. The second death^(CL) has no power over them, but they will be priests^(CM) of God and of Christ and will reign with him^(CN) for a thousand years.

The Judgment of Satan

⁷When the thousand years are over,^(CO) Satan will be released from his prison ⁸and will go out to deceive the nations^(CP) in the four corners of the earth^(CQ)—Gog and Magog^(CR)—and to gather them for battle.^(CS) In number they are like the sand on the seashore.^(CT) ⁹They marched across the breadth of the earth and surrounded^(CU) the camp of God’s people, the city he loves.^(CV) But fire came down from heaven^(CW) and devoured them. ¹⁰And the devil, who deceived them,^(CX) was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur,^(CY) where the beast^(CZ) and the false prophet^(DA) had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever.^(DB)

The Judgment of the Dead

¹¹Then I saw a great white throne^(DC) and him who was seated on it. The earth and the heavens fled from his presence,^(DD) and there was no place for them. ¹²And I saw the dead, great and small,^(DE) standing before the throne, and books were opened.^(DF) Another book was opened, which is the book of life.^(DG) The dead were judged^(DH) according to what they had done^(DI) as recorded in the books. ¹³The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades^(DJ) gave up the dead^(DK) that were in them, and each person was judged according to what they had done.^(DL) ¹⁴Then death^(DM) and Hades^(DN) were thrown into the lake of fire.^(DO) The lake of fire is the second death.^(DP) ¹⁵Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life^(DQ) was thrown into the lake of fire.

A New Heaven and a New Earth

21 Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,”^[c]^(DR) for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away,^(DS) and there was no longer any sea. ²I saw the Holy City,^(DT) the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God,^(DU) prepared as a bride^(DV) beautifully dressed for her husband. ³And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them.^(DW) They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God.^(DX) ⁴‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes.^(DY) There will be no more death’^[d]^(DZ) or mourning or crying or pain,^(EA) for the old order of things has passed away.”^(EB)

⁵He who was seated on the throne^(EC) said, “I am making everything new!”^(ED) Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”^(EE)

⁶He said to me: “It is done.^(EF) I am the Alpha and the Omega,^(EG) the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost^(EH) from the spring of the water of life.^(EI) ⁷Those who are victorious^(EJ) will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children.^(EK) ⁸But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars^(EL)—they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur.^(EM) This is the second death.”^(EN)

The New Jerusalem, the Bride of the Lamb

⁹One of the seven angels who had the seven bowls full of the seven last plagues^(EO) came and said to me, “Come, I will show you the bride,^(EP) the wife of the Lamb.” ¹⁰And he carried me away^(EQ) in the Spirit^(ER) to a mountain great and high, and showed me the Holy City, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God.^(ES) ¹¹It shone with the glory of God,^(ET) and its brilliance was like that of a very precious jewel, like a jasper,^(EU) clear as crystal.^(EV) ¹²It had a great, high wall with twelve gates,^(EW) and with twelve angels at the gates. On the gates were written the names of the twelve tribes of Israel.^(EX) ¹³There were three gates on the east, three on the north, three on the south and three on the west. ¹⁴The wall of the city had twelve foundations,^(EY) and on them were the names of the twelve apostles^(EZ) of the Lamb.

¹⁵The angel who talked with me had a measuring rod^(FA) of gold to measure the city, its gates^(FB) and its walls. ¹⁶The city was laid out like a square, as long as it was wide. He measured the city with the rod and found it to be 12,000 stadia^[e] in length, and as wide and high as it is long. ¹⁷The angel measured the wall using human^(FC) measurement, and it was 144 cubits^[f] thick.^[g] ¹⁸The wall was made of jasper,^(FD) and the city of pure gold, as pure as glass.^(FE) ¹⁹The foundations of the city walls were decorated with every kind of precious stone.^(FF) The first foundation was jasper,^(FG) the second sapphire, the third agate, the fourth emerald, ²⁰the fifth onyx, the sixth ruby,^(FH) the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth turquoise, the eleventh jacinth, and the twelfth amethyst.^[h] ²¹The twelve gates^(FI) were twelve pearls,^(FJ) each gate made of a single pearl. The great street of the city was of gold, as pure as transparent glass.^(FK)

²²I did not see a temple^(FL) in the city, because the Lord God Almighty^(FM) and the Lamb^(FN) are its temple. ²³The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God^(FO) gives it light,^(FP) and the Lamb^(FQ) is its lamp. ²⁴The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their splendor into it.^(FR) ²⁵On no day will its gates^(FS) ever be shut,^(FT) for there will be no night there.^(FU) ²⁶The glory and honor of the nations will be brought into it.^(FV) ²⁷Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful,^(FW) but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life.^(FX)

Eden Restored

22 Then the angel showed me the river^(FY) of the water of life,^(FZ) as clear as crystal,^(GA) flowing^(GB) from the throne of God and of the Lamb ²down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life,^(GC) bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. Its length, breadth, and height are equal. ¹⁷Then he measured its wall: one hundred and forty-four cubits, according to the measure of a man, that is, of an angel. ¹⁸The construction of its wall was of jasper; and the city was pure gold, like clear glass. ¹⁹^(DB)The foundations of the wall of the city were adorned with all kinds of precious stones: the first foundation was jasper, the second sapphire, the third chalcedony, the fourth emerald, ²⁰the fifth sardonyx, the sixth sardius, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh jacinth, and the twelfth amethyst. ²¹The twelve gates were twelve ^(DC)pearls: each individual gate was of one pearl. ^(DD)And the street of the city was pure gold, like transparent glass.

The Glory of the New Jerusalem

²²^(DE)But I saw no temple in it, for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. ²³^(DF)The city had no need of the sun or of the moon to shine ^[y]in it, for the ^[z]glory of God illuminated it. The Lamb is its light. ²⁴^(DG)And the nations ^[aa]of those who are saved shall walk in its light, and the kings of the earth bring their glory and honor ^[ab]into it. ²⁵^(DH)Its gates shall not be shut at all by day ^(DI)(there shall be no night there). ²⁶^(DJ)And they shall bring the glory and the honor of the nations into ^[ac]it. ²⁷But ^(DK)there shall by no means enter it anything ^[ad]that defiles, or causes an abomination or a lie, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s ^(DL)Book of Life.

The River of Life

22 And he showed me ^(DM)a ^[ae]pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding from the throne of God and of the Lamb. ²^(DN)In the middle of its street, and on either side of the river, was ^(DO)the tree of life, which bore twelve fruits, each tree yielding its fruit every month. The leaves of the tree were ^(DP)for the healing of the nations. ³And ^(DQ)there shall be no more curse, ^(DR)but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it, and His ^(DS)servants shall serve Him. ⁴^(DT)They shall see His face, and ^(DU)His name shall be on their foreheads. ⁵^(DV)There shall be no night there: They need no lamp nor ^(DW)light of the sun, for ^(DX)the Lord God gives them light. ^(DY)And they shall reign forever and ever.

The Time Is Near

⁶Then he said to me, ^(DZ)“These words are faithful and true.” And the Lord God of the ^[af]holy prophets ^(EA)sent His angel to show His servants the things which must ^(EB)shortly take place.

⁷^(EC)“Behold, I am coming quickly! ^(ED)Blessed is he who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book.”

⁸Now I, John, ^[ag]saw and heard these things. And when I heard and saw, ^(EE)I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel who showed me these things.

⁹Then he said to me, ^(EF)“See that you do not do that. ^[ah]For I am your fellow servant, and of your brethren the prophets, and of those who keep the words of this book. Worship God.” ¹⁰^(EG)And he said to me, “Do not seal the words of the prophecy of this book, ^(EH)for the time is at hand. ¹¹He who is unjust, let him be unjust still; he who is filthy, let him be filthy still; he who is righteous, let him ^[ai]be righteous still; he who is holy, let him be holy still.”

Jesus Testifies to the Churches

¹²“And behold, I am coming quickly, and ^(EI)My reward is with Me, ^(EJ)to give to every one according to his work. ¹³^(EK)I am the Alpha and the Omega, the ^[aj]Beginning and the End, the First and the Last.”

¹⁴^(EL)Blessed are those who ^[ak]do His commandments, that they may have the right ^(EM)to the tree of life, ^(EN)and may enter through the gates into the city. ¹⁵^[al]But ^(EO)outside are ^(EP)dogs and sorcerers and sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and whoever loves and practices a lie.

¹⁶^(EQ)“I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things in the churches. ^(ER)I am the Root and the Offspring of David, ^(ES)the Bright and Morning Star.”

¹⁷And the Spirit and ^(ET)the bride say, “Come!” And let him who hears say, “Come!” ^(EU)And let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely.

A Warning

¹⁸^[am]For I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: ^(EV)If anyone adds to these things, ^[an]God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book; ¹⁹and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, ^(EW)God^[ao] shall take away his part from the ^[ap]Book of Life, from the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

I Am Coming Quickly

²⁰He who testifies to these things says, “Surely I am coming quickly.”

Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus!

²¹The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be ^[aq]with you all. Amen.
