The Parable of the Ten Virgins
25 “Then the kingdom of heaven will be like (A)ten virgins who took their lamps[a] and went to meet (B)the bridegroom.[b] 2 Five of them were foolish, and five were (C)wise. 3 For when the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them, 4 but the wise took flasks of oil with their lamps. 5 As the bridegroom (D)was delayed, they all became drowsy and slept. 6 But (E)at midnight there was a cry, ‘Here is the bridegroom! Come out to meet him.’ 7 Then all those virgins rose and (F)trimmed their lamps. 8 And the foolish said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’ 9 But the wise answered, saying, ‘Since there will not be enough for us and for you, go rather to the dealers and buy for yourselves.’ 10 And while they were going to buy, the bridegroom came, and (G)those who were ready went in with him to (H)the marriage feast, and (I)the door was shut. 11 Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, (J)‘Lord, lord, open to us.’ 12 (K)But he answered, ‘Truly, I say to you, (L)I do not know you.’ 13 (M)Watch therefore, for you (N)know neither the day nor the hour.
The Parable of the Talents
14 (O)“For (P)it will be like a man (Q)going on a journey, who called his servants[c] and entrusted to them his property. 15 To one he gave five (R)talents,[d] to another two, to another one, (S)to each according to his ability. Then he (T)went away. 16 He who had received the five talents went at once and traded with them, and he made five talents more. 17 So also he who had the two talents made two talents more. 18 But he who had received the one talent went and (U)dug in the ground and hid his master's money. 19 Now (V)after a long time the master of those servants came and (W)settled accounts with them. 20 And he who had received the five talents came forward, bringing five talents more, saying, ‘Master, you delivered to me five talents; here, I have made five talents more.’ 21 His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and (X)faithful servant.[e] (Y)You have been faithful over a little; (Z)I will set you over much. Enter into (AA)the joy of your master.’ 22 And he also who had the two talents came forward, saying, ‘Master, you delivered to me two talents; here, I have made two talents more.’ 23 His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’ 24 He also who had received the one talent came forward, saying, ‘Master, I knew you to be (AB)a hard man, reaping (AC)where you did not sow, and gathering where you scattered no seed, 25 so I was afraid, and I went and hid your talent in the ground. Here, (AD)you have what is yours.’ 26 But his master answered him, ‘You (AE)wicked and (AF)slothful servant! You knew that I reap where I have not sown and gather where I scattered no seed? 27 Then you ought to have invested my money with the bankers, and at my coming I should have received what was my own with interest. 28 So take the talent from him and give it to him who has the ten talents. 29 (AG)For to everyone who has will more be given, and he will have an abundance. But from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away. 30 And (AH)cast (AI)the worthless servant into the outer darkness. In that place (AJ)there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’
The Final Judgment
31 (AK)“When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, (AL)then he will sit on his glorious throne. 32 Before him (AM)will be gathered (AN)all the nations, and (AO)he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates (AP)the sheep from the goats. 33 And he will place the sheep on his right, but the goats on the left. 34 Then (AQ)the King will say to (AR)those on his right, ‘Come, you (AS)who are blessed by my Father, (AT)inherit (AU)the kingdom (AV)prepared for you (AW)from the foundation of the world. 35 For (AX)I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you (AY)gave me drink, (AZ)I was a stranger and you welcomed me, 36 (BA)I was naked and you clothed me, (BB)I was sick and you (BC)visited me, (BD)I was in prison and you came to me.’ 37 Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? 38 And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? 39 And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ 40 And (BE)the King will answer them, (BF)‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these (BG)my brothers,[f] you did it to me.’
41 “Then he will say to those on his left, (BH)‘Depart from me, you (BI)cursed, into (BJ)the eternal fire prepared for (BK)the devil and his angels. 42 For (BL)I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.’ 44 Then they also will answer, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to you?’ 45 Then he will answer them, saying, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did not do it to one of the least of these, (BM)you did not do it to me.’ 46 And these will go away (BN)into eternal punishment, but the righteous (BO)into (BP)eternal life.”
The Plot to Kill Jesus
26 When Jesus had finished all these sayings, he said to his disciples, 2 (BQ)“You know that after two days (BR)the Passover is coming, and (BS)the Son of Man (BT)will be delivered up to be crucified.”
3 (BU)Then the chief priests and the elders of the people gathered in (BV)the palace of the high priest, whose name was (BW)Caiaphas, 4 (BX)and plotted together in order to arrest Jesus by stealth and kill him. 5 But they said, “Not during the feast, (BY)lest there be an uproar among the people.”
Jesus Anointed at Bethany
6 (BZ)Now when Jesus was at (CA)Bethany in the house of Simon the leper,[g] 7 a woman came up to him with an alabaster flask of very expensive ointment, and she poured it on his head as he reclined at table. 8 And when the disciples saw it, they were indignant, saying, “Why this waste? 9 For this could have been sold for a large sum and (CB)given to the poor.” 10 But (CC)Jesus, aware of this, said to them, “Why do you trouble the woman? For she has done a beautiful thing to me. 11 For (CD)you always have the poor with you, but (CE)you will not always have me. 12 In pouring this ointment on my body, she has done it (CF)to prepare me for burial. 13 Truly, I say to you, wherever (CG)this gospel is proclaimed in the whole world, what she has done will also be told (CH)in memory of her.”
Judas to Betray Jesus
14 (CI)Then one of the twelve, whose name was (CJ)Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests 15 and said, “What will you give me if I deliver him over to you?” And they (CK)paid him (CL)thirty pieces of silver. 16 And from that moment he sought an opportunity (CM)to betray him.
The Passover with the Disciples
17 (CN)Now on (CO)the first day of Unleavened Bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying, “Where will you have us prepare for you to eat the Passover?” 18 He said, “Go into the city to a certain man and say to him, (CP)‘The Teacher says, (CQ)My time is at hand. I will keep the Passover at your house with my disciples.’” 19 And the disciples did as Jesus had directed them, and they prepared the Passover.
20 (CR)When it was evening, he reclined at table with the twelve.[h] 21 And as they were eating, (CS)he said, “Truly, I say to you, one of you will betray me.” 22 And they were very sorrowful and began to say to him one after another, “Is it I, Lord?” 23 He answered, (CT)“He who has dipped his hand in the dish with me will betray me. 24 The Son of Man goes (CU)as it is written of him, but (CV)woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! (CW)It would have been better for that man if he had not been born.” 25 Judas, who would betray him, answered, “Is it I, (CX)Rabbi?” He said to him, (CY)“You have said so.”
Institution of the Lord's Supper
26 (CZ)Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and (DA)after blessing it broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said, “Take, eat; (DB)this is my body.” 27 And he took a cup, and when he (DC)had given thanks he gave it to them, saying, “Drink of it, all of you, 28 for (DD)this is my (DE)blood of the[i] covenant, which is poured out for (DF)many (DG)for the forgiveness of sins. 29 I tell you I will not drink again of this fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new with you (DH)in my Father's kingdom.”
Jesus Foretells Peter's Denial
30 (DI)And when they had sung a hymn, (DJ)they went out to (DK)the Mount of Olives. 31 Then Jesus said to them, “You will all fall away because of me this night. For it is written, ‘I will (DL)strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’ 32 But after I am raised up, (DM)I will go before you to Galilee.” 33 (DN)Peter answered him, “Though they all fall away because of you, I will never fall away.” 34 (DO)Jesus said to him, “Truly, I tell you, this very night, (DP)before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times.” 35 (DQ)Peter said to him, “Even if I must die with you, I will not deny you!” And all the disciples said the same.
Jesus Prays in Gethsemane
36 (DR)Then Jesus went with them (DS)to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to his disciples, “Sit here, while I go over there and pray.” 37 And taking with him (DT)Peter and (DU)the two sons of Zebedee, he began to be sorrowful and troubled. 38 Then he said to them, (DV)“My soul is very sorrowful, even to death; remain here, and (DW)watch[j] with me.” 39 And going a little farther he fell on his face (DX)and prayed, saying, “My Father, if it be possible, let (DY)this cup pass from me; (DZ)nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will.” 40 And he came to the disciples and found them sleeping. And he said to Peter, “So, could you not watch with me one hour? 41 (EA)Watch and (EB)pray that you (EC)may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” 42 Again, for the second time, he went away and prayed, “My Father, if this cannot pass unless I drink it, (ED)your will be done.” 43 And again he came and found them sleeping, for (EE)their eyes were heavy. 44 So, leaving them again, he went away and prayed for (EF)the third time, saying the same words again. 45 Then he came to the disciples and said to them, “Sleep and take your rest later on.[k] See, (EG)the hour is at hand, and (EH)the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. 46 Rise, let us be going; see, my betrayer is at hand.”
Betrayal and Arrest of Jesus
47 (EI)While he was still speaking, (EJ)Judas came, one of the twelve, and with him a great crowd with swords and clubs, from the chief priests and the elders of the people. 48 Now the betrayer had given them a sign, saying, “The one I will kiss is the man; seize him.” 49 And he came up to Jesus at once and said, “Greetings, (EK)Rabbi!” And he kissed him. 50 Jesus said to him, (EL)“Friend, (EM)do what you came to do.”[l] Then they came up and laid hands on Jesus and seized him. 51 And behold, one of those who were with Jesus stretched out his hand and drew his (EN)sword and struck the servant[m] of the high priest and cut off his ear. 52 Then Jesus said to him, “Put your sword back into its place. For (EO)all who take the sword will perish by the sword. 53 (EP)Do you think that I cannot appeal to my Father, and he will at once send me (EQ)more than twelve (ER)legions of angels? 54 (ES)But how then should the Scriptures be fulfilled, that it must be so?” 55 At that hour Jesus said to the crowds, “Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs to capture me? Day after day (ET)I sat in the temple (EU)teaching, and you did not seize me. 56 But (EV)all this has taken place that the Scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled.” (EW)Then all the disciples left him and fled.
Jesus Before Caiaphas and the Council
57 (EX)Then (EY)those who had seized Jesus led him to (EZ)Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders had gathered. 58 And (FA)Peter was following him at a distance, as far as (FB)the courtyard of the high priest, and going inside he sat with (FC)the guards to see the end. 59 Now the chief priests and the whole council[n] (FD)were seeking false testimony against Jesus that they might put him to death, 60 but they found none, (FE)though many false witnesses came forward. At last (FF)two came forward 61 and said, “This man said, (FG)‘I am able to (FH)destroy the temple of God, and to rebuild it in three days.’” 62 And the high priest stood up and said, “Have you no answer to make? What is it that these men testify against you?”[o] 63 (FI)But Jesus remained silent. (FJ)And the high priest said to him, (FK)“I adjure you by (FL)the living God, (FM)tell us if you are (FN)the Christ, (FO)the Son of God.” 64 Jesus said to him, (FP)“You have said so. But I tell you, from now on (FQ)you will see the Son of Man (FR)seated at the right hand of Power and (FS)coming on the clouds of heaven.” 65 Then the high priest (FT)tore his robes and said, (FU)“He has uttered blasphemy. What further witnesses do we need? You have now heard his blasphemy. 66 What is your judgment?” They answered, (FV)“He deserves death.” 67 Then (FW)they spit in his face (FX)and (FY)struck him. And some slapped him, 68 saying, “Prophesy to us, you (FZ)Christ! Who is it that struck you?”
Peter Denies Jesus
69 (GA)Now Peter was sitting outside (GB)in the courtyard. And a servant girl came up to him and said, “You also were with Jesus the Galilean.” 70 But he denied it before them all, saying, “I do not know what you mean.” 71 And when he went out to the entrance, another servant girl saw him, and she said to the bystanders, “This man was with Jesus (GC)of Nazareth.” 72 And again he denied it with an oath: “I do not know the man.” 73 After a little while the bystanders came up and said to Peter, “Certainly you too are one of them, for (GD)your accent betrays you.” 74 Then he began to invoke a curse on himself and to swear, “I do not know the man.” And immediately the rooster crowed. 75 And Peter remembered the saying of Jesus, (GE)“Before the rooster crows, you will (GF)deny me three times.” And he went out and wept bitterly.
Jesus Delivered to Pilate
27 (GG)When morning came, all the chief priests and the elders of the people (GH)took counsel against Jesus to put him to death. 2 And they bound him and (GI)led him away and (GJ)delivered him over to (GK)Pilate the governor.
Judas Hangs Himself
3 Then when (GL)Judas, his betrayer, saw that Jesus[p] was condemned, (GM)he changed his mind and brought back (GN)the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and the elders, 4 saying, “I have sinned by betraying innocent blood.” They said, “What is that to us? (GO)See to it yourself.” 5 And throwing down the pieces of silver into the temple, (GP)he departed, and he went and hanged himself. 6 But the chief priests, taking the pieces of silver, said, “It is not lawful to put them into (GQ)the treasury, since it is blood money.” 7 So they took counsel and bought with them the potter's field as a burial place for strangers. 8 Therefore (GR)that field has been called the Field of Blood (GS)to this day. 9 (GT)Then was fulfilled what had been spoken by the prophet Jeremiah, saying, (GU)“And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him on whom a price had been set by some of the sons of Israel, 10 and they gave them for the potter's field, as the Lord directed me.”
Jesus Before Pilate
11 (GV)Now Jesus stood before the governor, and the governor asked him, “Are you (GW)the King of the Jews?” Jesus said, (GX)“You have said so.” 12 (GY)But when he was accused by the chief priests and elders, he gave no answer. 13 Then Pilate said to him, (GZ)“Do you not hear how many things they testify against you?” 14 But he gave him no answer, not even to a single charge, so that the governor was greatly amazed.
The Crowd Chooses Barabbas
15 (HA)Now at the feast the governor was accustomed to release for the crowd any one prisoner whom they wanted. 16 And they had then a notorious prisoner called Barabbas. 17 So when they had gathered, Pilate said to them, “Whom do you want me to release for you: Barabbas, or (HB)Jesus who is called Christ?” 18 For he knew that it was out (HC)of envy that they had delivered him up. 19 Besides, while he was sitting on (HD)the judgment seat, his wife sent word to him, “Have nothing to do with (HE)that righteous man, for I have suffered much because of him today (HF)in a dream.” 20 Now the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowd to (HG)ask for Barabbas and destroy Jesus. 21 The governor again said to them, “Which of the two do you want me to release for you?” And they said, “Barabbas.” 22 Pilate said to them, “Then what shall I do with Jesus who is called Christ?” (HH)They all said, “Let him be crucified!” 23 And he said, “Why? (HI)What evil has he done?” But they shouted all the more, “Let him be crucified!”
Pilate Delivers Jesus to Be Crucified
24 So when Pilate saw that he was gaining nothing, but rather that (HJ)a riot was beginning, he took water and (HK)washed his hands before the crowd, saying, “I am innocent of (HL)this man's blood;[q] (HM)see to it yourselves.” 25 And all the people answered, (HN)“His blood be on us and (HO)on our children!” 26 Then he released for them Barabbas, and having (HP)scourged[r] Jesus, delivered him to be crucified.
Jesus Is Mocked
27 (HQ)Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the (HR)governor's headquarters,[s] and they gathered the whole (HS)battalion[t] before him. 28 And they stripped him and put (HT)a scarlet robe on him, 29 and twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on his head and put a reed in his right hand. And kneeling before him, they (HU)mocked him, saying, “Hail, (HV)King of the Jews!” 30 And (HW)they spit on him and took the reed and struck him on the head. 31 And when they had mocked him, they stripped him of the robe and put his own clothes on him and (HX)led him away to crucify him.
The Crucifixion
32 (HY)(HZ)As they went out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name. They compelled this man to (IA)carry his cross. 33 (IB)And when they came to a place called Golgotha (which means Place of a Skull), 34 (IC)they offered him wine to drink, mixed with (ID)gall, but when he tasted it, he would not drink it. 35 And when they had crucified him, (IE)they divided his garments among them by casting lots. 36 Then they sat down and (IF)kept watch over him there. 37 And over his head they put the charge against him, which read, “This is Jesus, (IG)the King of the Jews.” 38 Then two (IH)robbers were crucified with him, (II)one on the right and one on the left. 39 And (IJ)those who passed by (IK)derided him, (IL)wagging their heads 40 and saying, (IM)“You who would destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, save yourself! (IN)If you are (IO)the Son of God, come down from the cross.” 41 So also the chief priests, with the scribes and elders, mocked him, saying, 42 (IP)“He saved others; (IQ)he cannot save himself. (IR)He is the King of Israel; let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him. 43 (IS)He trusts in God; let God deliver him now, if he desires him. For he said, ‘I am the Son of God.’” 44 (IT)And the robbers who were crucified with him also reviled him in the same way.
The Death of Jesus
45 Now from the sixth hour[u] there was darkness over all the land[v] until the ninth hour.[w] 46 And about the ninth hour Jesus (IU)cried out with a loud voice, saying, (IV)“Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” that is, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” 47 And some of the bystanders, hearing it, said, “This man is calling Elijah.” 48 And one of them at once ran and took a sponge, filled it with (IW)sour wine, and put it on a reed and (IX)gave it to him to drink. 49 But the others said, “Wait, let us see whether Elijah will come to save him.” 50 And Jesus (IY)cried out again with a loud voice and (IZ)yielded up his spirit.
51 And behold, (JA)the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. And (JB)the earth shook, and the rocks were split. 52 The tombs also were opened. And many bodies of (JC)the saints (JD)who had fallen asleep were raised, 53 and coming out of the tombs after his resurrection they went into (JE)the holy city and appeared to many. 54 (JF)When the centurion and those who were with him, (JG)keeping watch over Jesus, saw the earthquake and what took place, they were filled with awe and said, (JH)“Truly this was the Son[x] of God!”
55 There were also (JI)many women there, looking on (JJ)from a distance, who had followed Jesus from Galilee, (JK)ministering to him, 56 among whom were (JL)Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of James and Joseph and (JM)the mother of the sons of Zebedee.
Jesus Is Buried
57 (JN)When it was evening, there came a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who also was a disciple of Jesus. 58 He went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. Then Pilate ordered it to be given to him. 59 And Joseph took the body and wrapped it in a clean linen shroud 60 and (JO)laid it in his own new tomb, (JP)which he had cut in the rock. And he rolled (JQ)a great stone to the entrance of the tomb and went away. 61 Mary Magdalene and (JR)the other Mary were there, sitting opposite the tomb.
The Guard at the Tomb
62 The next day, that is, after the day of (JS)Preparation, the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered before Pilate 63 and said, “Sir, we remember how (JT)that impostor said, while he was still alive, (JU)‘After three days I will rise.’ 64 Therefore order the tomb to be made secure until the third day, (JV)lest his disciples go and steal him away and tell the people, ‘He has risen from the dead,’ and the last fraud will be worse than the first.” 65 Pilate said to them, “You have (JW)a guard[y] of soldiers. Go, make it as secure as you can.” 66 So they went and made the tomb secure by (JX)sealing the stone and setting a guard.
The Resurrection
28 (JY)Now after the Sabbath, toward the dawn of the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and (JZ)the other Mary went to see the tomb. 2 And behold, there was a great earthquake, for (KA)an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone and sat on it. 3 (KB)His appearance was like lightning, and (KC)his clothing white as snow. 4 And for fear of him the guards trembled and (KD)became like dead men. 5 But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. 6 He is not here, for he has risen, (KE)as he said. Come, see the place where he[z] lay. 7 Then go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead, and behold, (KF)he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him. See, I have told you.” 8 So they departed quickly from the tomb (KG)with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples. 9 And behold, Jesus (KH)met them and said, “Greetings!” And they came up and (KI)took hold of his feet and (KJ)worshiped him. 10 Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid; (KK)go and tell (KL)my brothers to go to Galilee, and there they will see me.”
The Report of the Guard
11 While they were going, behold, some of (KM)the guard went into the city and told the chief priests all that had taken place. 12 And when they had assembled with the elders and taken counsel, they gave a sufficient sum of money to the soldiers 13 and said, “Tell people, (KN)‘His disciples came by night and stole him away while we were asleep.’ 14 And if this comes to (KO)the governor's ears, we will (KP)satisfy him and keep you out of trouble.” 15 So they took the money and did as they were directed. And this story has been spread among the Jews (KQ)to this day.
The Great Commission
16 Now the eleven disciples (KR)went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. 17 And when they saw him they (KS)worshiped him, but some doubted. 18 And Jesus came and said to them, (KT)“All authority (KU)in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 (KV)Go therefore and (KW)make disciples of (KX)all nations, (KY)baptizing them (KZ)in[aa] (LA)the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them (LB)to observe all that (LC)I have commanded you. And behold, (LD)I am with you always, to (LE)the end of the age.”

25 “At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like(A) ten virgins who took their lamps(B) and went out to meet the bridegroom.(C) 2 Five of them were foolish and five were wise.(D) 3 The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them. 4 The wise ones, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps. 5 The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep.(E)
6 “At midnight the cry rang out: ‘Here’s the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!’
7 “Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. 8 The foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.’(F)
9 “‘No,’ they replied, ‘there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.’
10 “But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet.(G) And the door was shut.
11 “Later the others also came. ‘Lord, Lord,’ they said, ‘open the door for us!’
12 “But he replied, ‘Truly I tell you, I don’t know you.’(H)
13 “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.(I)
The Parable of the Bags of Gold(J)
14 “Again, it will be like a man going on a journey,(K) who called his servants and entrusted his wealth to them. 15 To one he gave five bags of gold, to another two bags, and to another one bag,[a] each according to his ability.(L) Then he went on his journey. 16 The man who had received five bags of gold went at once and put his money to work and gained five bags more. 17 So also, the one with two bags of gold gained two more. 18 But the man who had received one bag went off, dug a hole in the ground and hid his master’s money.
19 “After a long time the master of those servants returned and settled accounts with them.(M) 20 The man who had received five bags of gold brought the other five. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me with five bags of gold. See, I have gained five more.’
21 “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things.(N) Come and share your master’s happiness!’
22 “The man with two bags of gold also came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me with two bags of gold; see, I have gained two more.’
23 “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things.(O) Come and share your master’s happiness!’
24 “Then the man who had received one bag of gold came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘I knew that you are a hard man, harvesting where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered seed. 25 So I was afraid and went out and hid your gold in the ground. See, here is what belongs to you.’
26 “His master replied, ‘You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed? 27 Well then, you should have put my money on deposit with the bankers, so that when I returned I would have received it back with interest.
28 “‘So take the bag of gold from him and give it to the one who has ten bags. 29 For whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them.(P) 30 And throw that worthless servant outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’(Q)
The Sheep and the Goats
31 “When the Son of Man comes(R) in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne.(S) 32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate(T) the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.(U) 33 He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.
34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom(V) prepared for you since the creation of the world.(W) 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in,(X) 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me,(Y) I was sick and you looked after me,(Z) I was in prison and you came to visit me.’(AA)
37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’(AB)
41 “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me,(AC) you who are cursed, into the eternal fire(AD) prepared for the devil and his angels.(AE) 42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’
44 “They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’
45 “He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’(AF)
46 “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.(AG)”(AH)
The Plot Against Jesus(AI)
26 When Jesus had finished saying all these things,(AJ) he said to his disciples, 2 “As you know, the Passover(AK) is two days away—and the Son of Man will be handed over to be crucified.”
3 Then the chief priests and the elders of the people assembled(AL) in the palace of the high priest, whose name was Caiaphas,(AM) 4 and they schemed to arrest Jesus secretly and kill him.(AN) 5 “But not during the festival,” they said, “or there may be a riot(AO) among the people.”
Jesus Anointed at Bethany(AP)(AQ)
6 While Jesus was in Bethany(AR) in the home of Simon the Leper, 7 a woman came to him with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, which she poured on his head as he was reclining at the table.
8 When the disciples saw this, they were indignant. “Why this waste?” they asked. 9 “This perfume could have been sold at a high price and the money given to the poor.”
10 Aware of this, Jesus said to them, “Why are you bothering this woman? She has done a beautiful thing to me. 11 The poor you will always have with you,[b](AS) but you will not always have me. 12 When she poured this perfume on my body, she did it to prepare me for burial.(AT) 13 Truly I tell you, wherever this gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told, in memory of her.”
Judas Agrees to Betray Jesus(AU)
14 Then one of the Twelve—the one called Judas Iscariot(AV)—went to the chief priests 15 and asked, “What are you willing to give me if I deliver him over to you?” So they counted out for him thirty pieces of silver.(AW) 16 From then on Judas watched for an opportunity to hand him over.
The Last Supper(AX)(AY)(AZ)
17 On the first day of the Festival of Unleavened Bread,(BA) the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Where do you want us to make preparations for you to eat the Passover?”(BB)
18 He replied, “Go into the city to a certain man and tell him, ‘The Teacher says: My appointed time(BC) is near. I am going to celebrate the Passover with my disciples at your house.’” 19 So the disciples did as Jesus had directed them and prepared the Passover.
20 When evening came, Jesus was reclining at the table with the Twelve. 21 And while they were eating, he said, “Truly I tell you, one of you will betray me.”(BD)
22 They were very sad and began to say to him one after the other, “Surely you don’t mean me, Lord?”
23 Jesus replied, “The one who has dipped his hand into the bowl with me will betray me.(BE) 24 The Son of Man will go just as it is written about him.(BF) But woe to that man who betrays the Son of Man! It would be better for him if he had not been born.”
25 Then Judas, the one who would betray him,(BG) said, “Surely you don’t mean me, Rabbi?”(BH)
Jesus answered, “You have said so.”
26 While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it(BI) and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body.”
27 Then he took a cup,(BJ) and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. 28 This is my blood of the[c] covenant,(BK) which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.(BL) 29 I tell you, I will not drink from this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you(BM) in my Father’s kingdom.”
30 When they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.(BN)
Jesus Predicts Peter’s Denial(BO)
31 Then Jesus told them, “This very night you will all fall away on account of me,(BP) for it is written:
32 But after I have risen, I will go ahead of you into Galilee.”(BR)
33 Peter replied, “Even if all fall away on account of you, I never will.”
34 “Truly I tell you,” Jesus answered, “this very night, before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times.”(BS)
35 But Peter declared, “Even if I have to die with you,(BT) I will never disown you.” And all the other disciples said the same.
Gethsemane(BU)
36 Then Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to them, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.” 37 He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee(BV) along with him, and he began to be sorrowful and troubled. 38 Then he said to them, “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow(BW) to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.”(BX)
39 Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup(BY) be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.”(BZ)
40 Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. “Couldn’t you men keep watch with me(CA) for one hour?” he asked Peter. 41 “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.(CB) The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
42 He went away a second time and prayed, “My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may your will be done.”(CC)
43 When he came back, he again found them sleeping, because their eyes were heavy. 44 So he left them and went away once more and prayed the third time, saying the same thing.
45 Then he returned to the disciples and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? Look, the hour(CD) has come, and the Son of Man is delivered into the hands of sinners. 46 Rise! Let us go! Here comes my betrayer!”
Jesus Arrested(CE)
47 While he was still speaking, Judas,(CF) one of the Twelve, arrived. With him was a large crowd armed with swords and clubs, sent from the chief priests and the elders of the people. 48 Now the betrayer had arranged a signal with them: “The one I kiss is the man; arrest him.” 49 Going at once to Jesus, Judas said, “Greetings, Rabbi!”(CG) and kissed him.
50 Jesus replied, “Do what you came for, friend.”[e](CH)
Then the men stepped forward, seized Jesus and arrested him. 51 With that, one of Jesus’ companions reached for his sword,(CI) drew it out and struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his ear.(CJ)
52 “Put your sword back in its place,” Jesus said to him, “for all who draw the sword will die by the sword.(CK) 53 Do you think I cannot call on my Father, and he will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels?(CL) 54 But how then would the Scriptures be fulfilled(CM) that say it must happen in this way?”
55 In that hour Jesus said to the crowd, “Am I leading a rebellion, that you have come out with swords and clubs to capture me? Every day I sat in the temple courts teaching,(CN) and you did not arrest me. 56 But this has all taken place that the writings of the prophets might be fulfilled.”(CO) Then all the disciples deserted him and fled.
Jesus Before the Sanhedrin(CP)
57 Those who had arrested Jesus took him to Caiaphas(CQ) the high priest, where the teachers of the law and the elders had assembled. 58 But Peter followed him at a distance, right up to the courtyard of the high priest.(CR) He entered and sat down with the guards(CS) to see the outcome.
59 The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin(CT) were looking for false evidence against Jesus so that they could put him to death. 60 But they did not find any, though many false witnesses(CU) came forward.
Finally two(CV) came forward 61 and declared, “This fellow said, ‘I am able to destroy the temple of God and rebuild it in three days.’”(CW)
62 Then the high priest stood up and said to Jesus, “Are you not going to answer? What is this testimony that these men are bringing against you?” 63 But Jesus remained silent.(CX)
The high priest said to him, “I charge you under oath(CY) by the living God:(CZ) Tell us if you are the Messiah,(DA) the Son of God.”(DB)
64 “You have said so,”(DC) Jesus replied. “But I say to all of you: From now on you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One(DD) and coming on the clouds of heaven.”[f](DE)
65 Then the high priest tore his clothes(DF) and said, “He has spoken blasphemy! Why do we need any more witnesses? Look, now you have heard the blasphemy. 66 What do you think?”
“He is worthy of death,”(DG) they answered.
67 Then they spit in his face and struck him with their fists.(DH) Others slapped him 68 and said, “Prophesy to us, Messiah. Who hit you?”(DI)
Peter Disowns Jesus(DJ)
69 Now Peter was sitting out in the courtyard, and a servant girl came to him. “You also were with Jesus of Galilee,” she said.
70 But he denied it before them all. “I don’t know what you’re talking about,” he said.
71 Then he went out to the gateway, where another servant girl saw him and said to the people there, “This fellow was with Jesus of Nazareth.”
72 He denied it again, with an oath: “I don’t know the man!”
73 After a little while, those standing there went up to Peter and said, “Surely you are one of them; your accent gives you away.”
74 Then he began to call down curses, and he swore to them, “I don’t know the man!”
Immediately a rooster crowed. 75 Then Peter remembered the word Jesus had spoken: “Before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times.”(DK) And he went outside and wept bitterly.
Judas Hangs Himself
27 Early in the morning, all the chief priests and the elders of the people made their plans how to have Jesus executed.(DL) 2 So they bound him, led him away and handed him over(DM) to Pilate the governor.(DN)
3 When Judas, who had betrayed him,(DO) saw that Jesus was condemned, he was seized with remorse and returned the thirty pieces of silver(DP) to the chief priests and the elders. 4 “I have sinned,” he said, “for I have betrayed innocent blood.”
“What is that to us?” they replied. “That’s your responsibility.”(DQ)
5 So Judas threw the money into the temple(DR) and left. Then he went away and hanged himself.(DS)
6 The chief priests picked up the coins and said, “It is against the law to put this into the treasury, since it is blood money.” 7 So they decided to use the money to buy the potter’s field as a burial place for foreigners. 8 That is why it has been called the Field of Blood(DT) to this day. 9 Then what was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet was fulfilled:(DU) “They took the thirty pieces of silver, the price set on him by the people of Israel, 10 and they used them to buy the potter’s field, as the Lord commanded me.”[g](DV)
Jesus Before Pilate(DW)
11 Meanwhile Jesus stood before the governor, and the governor asked him, “Are you the king of the Jews?”(DX)
“You have said so,” Jesus replied.
12 When he was accused by the chief priests and the elders, he gave no answer.(DY) 13 Then Pilate asked him, “Don’t you hear the testimony they are bringing against you?”(DZ) 14 But Jesus made no reply,(EA) not even to a single charge—to the great amazement of the governor.
15 Now it was the governor’s custom at the festival to release a prisoner(EB) chosen by the crowd. 16 At that time they had a well-known prisoner whose name was Jesus[h] Barabbas. 17 So when the crowd had gathered, Pilate asked them, “Which one do you want me to release to you: Jesus Barabbas, or Jesus who is called the Messiah?”(EC) 18 For he knew it was out of self-interest that they had handed Jesus over to him.
19 While Pilate was sitting on the judge’s seat,(ED) his wife sent him this message: “Don’t have anything to do with that innocent(EE) man, for I have suffered a great deal today in a dream(EF) because of him.”
20 But the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowd to ask for Barabbas and to have Jesus executed.(EG)
21 “Which of the two do you want me to release to you?” asked the governor.
“Barabbas,” they answered.
22 “What shall I do, then, with Jesus who is called the Messiah?”(EH) Pilate asked.
They all answered, “Crucify him!”
23 “Why? What crime has he committed?” asked Pilate.
But they shouted all the louder, “Crucify him!”
24 When Pilate saw that he was getting nowhere, but that instead an uproar(EI) was starting, he took water and washed his hands(EJ) in front of the crowd. “I am innocent of this man’s blood,”(EK) he said. “It is your responsibility!”(EL)
25 All the people answered, “His blood is on us and on our children!”(EM)
26 Then he released Barabbas to them. But he had Jesus flogged,(EN) and handed him over to be crucified.
The Soldiers Mock Jesus(EO)
27 Then the governor’s soldiers took Jesus into the Praetorium(EP) and gathered the whole company of soldiers around him. 28 They stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him,(EQ) 29 and then twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on his head. They put a staff in his right hand. Then they knelt in front of him and mocked him. “Hail, king of the Jews!” they said.(ER) 30 They spit on him, and took the staff and struck him on the head again and again.(ES) 31 After they had mocked him, they took off the robe and put his own clothes on him. Then they led him away to crucify him.(ET)
The Crucifixion of Jesus(EU)
32 As they were going out,(EV) they met a man from Cyrene,(EW) named Simon, and they forced him to carry the cross.(EX) 33 They came to a place called Golgotha (which means “the place of the skull”).(EY) 34 There they offered Jesus wine to drink, mixed with gall;(EZ) but after tasting it, he refused to drink it. 35 When they had crucified him, they divided up his clothes by casting lots.(FA) 36 And sitting down, they kept watch(FB) over him there. 37 Above his head they placed the written charge against him: this is jesus, the king of the jews.
38 Two rebels were crucified with him,(FC) one on his right and one on his left. 39 Those who passed by hurled insults at him, shaking their heads(FD) 40 and saying, “You who are going to destroy the temple and build it in three days,(FE) save yourself!(FF) Come down from the cross, if you are the Son of God!”(FG) 41 In the same way the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the elders mocked him. 42 “He saved others,” they said, “but he can’t save himself! He’s the king of Israel!(FH) Let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe(FI) in him. 43 He trusts in God. Let God rescue him(FJ) now if he wants him, for he said, ‘I am the Son of God.’” 44 In the same way the rebels who were crucified with him also heaped insults on him.
The Death of Jesus(FK)
45 From noon until three in the afternoon darkness(FL) came over all the land. 46 About three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eli, Eli,[i] lema sabachthani?” (which means “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”).[j](FM)
47 When some of those standing there heard this, they said, “He’s calling Elijah.”
48 Immediately one of them ran and got a sponge. He filled it with wine vinegar,(FN) put it on a staff, and offered it to Jesus to drink. 49 The rest said, “Now leave him alone. Let’s see if Elijah comes to save him.”
50 And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit.(FO)
51 At that moment the curtain of the temple(FP) was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook, the rocks split(FQ) 52 and the tombs broke open. The bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life. 53 They came out of the tombs after Jesus’ resurrection and[k] went into the holy city(FR) and appeared to many people.
54 When the centurion and those with him who were guarding(FS) Jesus saw the earthquake and all that had happened, they were terrified, and exclaimed, “Surely he was the Son of God!”(FT)
55 Many women were there, watching from a distance. They had followed Jesus from Galilee to care for his needs.(FU) 56 Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Joseph,[l] and the mother of Zebedee’s sons.(FV)
The Burial of Jesus(FW)
57 As evening approached, there came a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who had himself become a disciple of Jesus. 58 Going to Pilate, he asked for Jesus’ body, and Pilate ordered that it be given to him. 59 Joseph took the body, wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, 60 and placed it in his own new tomb(FX) that he had cut out of the rock. He rolled a big stone in front of the entrance to the tomb and went away. 61 Mary Magdalene and the other Mary were sitting there opposite the tomb.
The Guard at the Tomb
62 The next day, the one after Preparation Day, the chief priests and the Pharisees went to Pilate. 63 “Sir,” they said, “we remember that while he was still alive that deceiver said, ‘After three days I will rise again.’(FY) 64 So give the order for the tomb to be made secure until the third day. Otherwise, his disciples may come and steal the body(FZ) and tell the people that he has been raised from the dead. This last deception will be worse than the first.”
65 “Take a guard,”(GA) Pilate answered. “Go, make the tomb as secure as you know how.” 66 So they went and made the tomb secure by putting a seal(GB) on the stone(GC) and posting the guard.(GD)
Jesus Has Risen(GE)
28 After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene(GF) and the other Mary(GG) went to look at the tomb.
2 There was a violent earthquake,(GH) for an angel(GI) of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone(GJ) and sat on it. 3 His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow.(GK) 4 The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men.
5 The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid,(GL) for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. 6 He is not here; he has risen, just as he said.(GM) Come and see the place where he lay. 7 Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee.(GN) There you will see him.’ Now I have told you.”
8 So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples. 9 Suddenly Jesus met them.(GO) “Greetings,” he said. They came to him, clasped his feet and worshiped him. 10 Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers(GP) to go to Galilee; there they will see me.”
The Guards’ Report
11 While the women were on their way, some of the guards(GQ) went into the city and reported to the chief priests everything that had happened. 12 When the chief priests had met with the elders and devised a plan, they gave the soldiers a large sum of money, 13 telling them, “You are to say, ‘His disciples came during the night and stole him away(GR) while we were asleep.’ 14 If this report gets to the governor,(GS) we will satisfy him and keep you out of trouble.” 15 So the soldiers took the money and did as they were instructed. And this story has been widely circulated among the Jews to this very day.
The Great Commission
16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go.(GT) 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.(GU) 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations,(GV) baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,(GW) 20 and teaching(GX) them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you(GY) always, to the very end of the age.”(GZ)

27 Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own with usury.
28 Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents.
29 For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath.
30 And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
31 When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:
32 And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats:
33 And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.
34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:
35 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:

26 And it came to pass, when Jesus had finished all these sayings, he said unto his disciples,
2 Ye know that after two days is the feast of the passover, and the Son of man is betrayed to be crucified.
3 Then assembled together the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders of the people, unto the palace of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas,
4 And consulted that they might take Jesus by subtilty, and kill him.
5 But they said, Not on the feast day, lest there be an uproar among the people.
6 Now when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper,
7 There came unto him a woman having an alabaster box of very precious ointment, and poured it on his head, as he sat at meat.
8 But when his disciples saw it, they had indignation, saying, To what purpose is this waste?
9 For this ointment might have been sold for much, and given to the poor.
10 When Jesus understood it, he said unto them, Why trouble ye the woman? for she hath wrought a good work upon me.
11 For ye have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always.
12 For in that she hath poured this ointment on my body, she did it for my burial.
13 Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, there shall also this, that this woman hath done, be told for a memorial of her.
14 Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests,
15 And said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver.
16 And from that time he sought opportunity to betray him.
17 Now the first day of the feast of unleavened bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare for thee to eat the passover?
18 And he said, Go into the city to such a man, and say unto him, The Master saith, My time is at hand; I will keep the passover at thy house with my disciples.
19 And the disciples did as Jesus had appointed them; and they made ready the passover.
20 Now when the even was come, he sat down with the twelve.
21 And as they did eat, he said, Verily I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me.
22 And they were exceeding sorrowful, and began every one of them to say unto him, Lord, is it I?
23 And he answered and said, He that dippeth his hand with me in the dish, the same shall betray me.
24 The Son of man goeth as it is written of him: but woe unto that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! it had been good for that man if he had not been born.
25 Then Judas, which betrayed him, answered and said, Master, is it I? He said unto him, Thou hast said.
26 And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body.
27 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;
28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.
29 But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom.
30 And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives.
31 Then saith Jesus unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad.
32 But after I am risen again, I will go before you into Galilee.
33 Peter answered and said unto him, Though all men shall be offended because of thee, yet will I never be offended.
34 Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this night, before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.
35 Peter said unto him, Though I should die with thee, yet will I not deny thee. Likewise also said all the disciples.
36 Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder.
37 And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy.
38 Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me.
39 And he went a little farther, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.
40 And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour?
41 Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.
42 He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done.
43 And he came and found them asleep again: for their eyes were heavy.
44 And he left them, and went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words.
45 Then cometh he to his disciples, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.

53 Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?
54 But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be?
55 In that same hour said Jesus to the multitudes, Are ye come out as against a thief with swords and staves for to take me? I sat daily with you teaching in the temple, and ye laid no hold on me.
56 But all this was done, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples forsook him, and fled.
57 And they that had laid hold on Jesus led him away to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders were assembled.

28 In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre.

18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

The Thousand Years

After that he must be released for a little while.
4 Then I saw (H)thrones, and (I)seated on them were those to whom the authority to judge was committed. Also I saw (J)the souls of those who had been beheaded for the testimony of Jesus and for the word of God, and those (K)who had not worshiped the beast or its image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or their hands. (L)They came to life and (M)reigned with Christ for a thousand years. 5 The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended. This is the first resurrection. 6 (N)Blessed and holy is the one who shares in the first resurrection! Over such (O)the second death has no power, but they will be (P)priests of God and of Christ, and they (Q)will reign with him for a thousand years.
The Defeat of Satan
7 And when the thousand years are ended, (R)Satan will be released from his prison 8 and will come out (S)to deceive the nations that are at the four corners of the earth, (T)Gog and Magog, (U)to gather them for battle; their number is like the sand of the sea. 9 And (V)they marched up over the broad plain of the earth and surrounded (W)the camp of the saints and (X)the beloved city, but (Y)fire came down from heaven[b] and consumed them, 10 and the devil (Z)who had deceived them was (AA)thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur where (AB)the beast and the false prophet were, and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.
Judgment Before the Great White Throne
11 Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. From his presence (AC)earth and sky fled away, and (AD)no place was found for them. 12 And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and (AE)books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is (AF)the book of life. And (AG)the dead were judged by what was written in the books, (AH)according to what they had done. 13 And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, (AI)Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and they were judged, each one of them, (AJ)according to what they had done. 14 Then (AK)Death and Hades (AL)were thrown into the lake of fire. This is (AM)the second death, the lake of fire. 15 And if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, (AN)he was thrown into the lake of fire.

The Judgment of the Dead
11 Then I saw a great white throne(AJ) and him who was seated on it. The earth and the heavens fled from his presence,(AK) and there was no place for them. 12 And I saw the dead, great and small,(AL) standing before the throne, and books were opened.(AM) Another book was opened, which is the book of life.(AN) The dead were judged(AO) according to what they had done(AP) as recorded in the books. 13 The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades(AQ) gave up the dead(AR) that were in them, and each person was judged according to what they had done.(AS) 14 Then death(AT) and Hades(AU) were thrown into the lake of fire.(AV) The lake of fire is the second death.(AW) 15 Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life(AX) was thrown into the lake of fire.

12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.
14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

10 Then I saw another mighty angel coming down from heaven, wrapped in a cloud, with (A)a rainbow over his head, and (B)his face was like the sun, and (C)his legs like pillars of fire. 2 (D)He had a little scroll open in his hand. And he set his right foot on the sea, and his left foot on the land, 3 and called out with a loud voice, (E)like a lion roaring. When he called out, the seven thunders sounded. 4 And when the seven thunders had sounded, I was about to write, but I heard a voice from heaven saying, (F)“Seal up what the seven thunders have said, and do not write it down.” 5 And the angel whom I saw standing on the sea and on the land (G)raised his right hand to heaven 6 and swore by (H)him who lives forever and ever, (I)who created heaven and what is in it, the earth and what is in it, and the sea and what is in it, that there would be no more delay, 7 but that (J)in the days of the trumpet call to be sounded by the seventh angel, the mystery of God would be fulfilled, (K)just as he announced to his servants the prophets.
8 Then the voice that I had heard from heaven spoke to me again, saying, “Go, take the scroll that is open in the hand of the angel who is standing on the sea and on the land.” 9 So I went to the angel and told him to give me the little scroll. And he said to me, (L)“Take and (M)eat it; it will make your stomach bitter, but in your mouth it will be sweet as honey.” 10 And I took the little scroll from the hand of the angel and ate it. It was sweet as honey in my mouth, but when I had eaten it my stomach was made bitter. 11 And I was told, (N)“You must again prophesy about many peoples and nations and languages and kings.”

9 So I went to the angel and asked him to give me the little scroll. He said to me, “Take it and eat it. It will turn your stomach sour, but ‘in your mouth it will be as sweet as honey.’[a]”(X) 10 I took the little scroll from the angel’s hand and ate it. It tasted as sweet as honey in my mouth,(Y) but when I had eaten it, my stomach turned sour. 11 Then I was told, “You must prophesy(Z) again about many peoples, nations, languages and kings.”(AA)
