^22 (A)And they brought him to the place called Golgotha (which means Place of a Skull). ²³ And they offered him wine mixed with ^(B)myrrh, but he did not take it. ²⁴ And they crucified him and ^(C)divided his garments among them, casting lots for them, to decide what each should take. ²⁵ And ^(D)it was the third hour^[a] when they crucified him. ²⁶ And the inscription of the charge against him read, ^(E)“The King of the Jews.” ²⁷ And with him they crucified two ^(F)robbers, ^(G)one on his right and one on his left.^{[b] 29} And ^(H)those who passed by derided him, ^(I)wagging their heads and saying, ^(J)“Aha! ^(K)You who would destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, ³⁰ save yourself, and come down from the cross!” ³¹ So also the chief priests with the scribes mocked him to one another, saying, ^(L)“He saved others; ^(M)he cannot save himself. ³² Let ^(N)the Christ, ^(O)the King of Israel, come down now from the cross that we may ^(P)see and believe.” ^(Q)Those who were crucified with him also reviled him.

³³ And when the sixth hour^[c] had come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour.^{[d] 34} And at the ninth hour Jesus ^(R)cried with a loud voice, ^(S)“Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?” which means, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” ³⁵ And some of the bystanders hearing it said, “Behold, he is calling Elijah.” ³⁶ And someone ran and filled a sponge with ^(T)sour wine, put it on a reed ^(U)and gave it to him to drink, saying, “Wait, let us see whether Elijah will come to take him down.” ³⁷ And Jesus ^(V)uttered a loud cry and ^(W)breathed his last. ³⁸ And ^(X)the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom.

^32 (A)Two others, who were criminals, were led away to be put to death with him. ^33 (B)And when they came to the place that is called The Skull, there they crucified him, and the criminals, ^(C)one on his right and one on his left. ³⁴ And Jesus said, “Father, ^(D)forgive them, ^(E)for they know not what they do.”^[a] And they cast lots ^(F)to divide his garments. ³⁵ And ^(G)the people stood by, watching, ^(H)but ^(I)the rulers ^(J)scoffed at him, saying, ^(K)“He saved others; ^(L)let him save himself, ^(M)if he is ^(N)the Christ of God, ^(O)his Chosen One!” ³⁶ The soldiers also mocked him, coming up and ^(P)offering him sour wine ³⁷ and saying, ^(Q)“If you are ^(R)the King of the Jews, save yourself!” ^38 (S)There was also an inscription over him,^[b] “This is ^(T)the King of the Jews.”

^44 (A)It was now about the sixth hour,^[a] and there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour,^{[b] 45} while the sun's light failed. And ^(B)the curtain of the temple was torn in two. ⁴⁶ Then Jesus, ^(C)calling out with a loud voice, said, “Father, ^(D)into your hands I ^(E)commit my spirit!” And having said this ^(F)he breathed his last.

¹⁷ and ^(A)he went out, ^(B)bearing his own cross, to the place called The Place of a Skull, which in Aramaic is called Golgotha. ^18 (C)There they crucified him, and with him two others, one on either side, and Jesus between them. ¹⁹ Pilate ^(D)also wrote an inscription and put it on the cross. It read, “Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews.”

^23 (A)When the soldiers had crucified Jesus, they took his garments and divided them into four parts, one part for each soldier; also his tunic.^[a] But the tunic was seamless, woven in one piece from top to bottom, ²⁴ so they said to one another, “Let us not tear it, but cast lots for it to see whose it shall be.” ^(B)This was to fulfill the Scripture which says,

²⁸ After this, Jesus, knowing that all was now ^(A)finished, said (^(B)to fulfill the Scripture), ^(C)“I thirst.” ²⁹ A jar full of sour wine stood there, ^(D)so they put a sponge full of the sour wine on a hyssop branch and held it to his mouth. ³⁰ When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, ^(E)“It is finished,” and he bowed his head and ^(F)gave up his spirit.
