Wait by Faith
“These were all commended for their faith, yet none of them received what had been promised. God had planned something better for us so that only together with us would they be made perfect.” Hebrews 11:39-40
It is so hard to wait. “Lord,” we often beg, “just give me something to do to make everything better and to end this present darkness!” Ruth was a heroine in many ways. But like us, she needed a Redeemer who would work on her behalf. In light of that reality, she was forced to wait by faith.
While our times of waiting may feel endless or even hopeless, we need the reminder that waiting is also vitally important. In waiting, we recognize that the important work of salvation in this world belongs to the Lord. In waiting, we find a refuge during seasons of great suffering. In waiting, we rest in the knowledge that Jesus our Savior has accomplished what we could not and enables us to live lives of gratitude.
We can take hope from the example of those who have gone before us. God’s people in all ages have waited on Him, though the wait was often excruciating. We must wait upon the Lord throughout the whole of our lives (Psalm 27:14). When it ends, our Savior will come on the clouds, and His people will join Him in eternity.
