Waiting by Faith
“Naomi said, ‘Wait, my daughter, until you find out what happens. For the man will not rest until the matter is settled today.’” Ruth 3:18
It’s hard to walk by faith. It may be even harder to wait by faith. Ruth has suffered, and she has labored. She has weakened herself in every way yet has trusted in the unfailing strength of her God. Now, she must wait. Boaz has promised her that she will be redeemed. She’s a genuine heroine of the faith, but she is not Jesus. She too must wait for her redemption.
I believe this is one of the hardest callings for followers of Jesus. While we may think we have everything under control, daily we are reminded otherwise: we wait nine months for a baby, we wait to receive a job offer, we wait on test results, we wait for healing in a relationship, we wait for true love. Waiting can be agony!
But at some point, we must relent and be still while God works in our lives. We are in the gap between justification (being declared righteous in Christ) and glorification (being vindicated in Christ). We live by faith in a wilderness world, longing for the sweet aroma of Eden and her Groundskeeper. Like Ruth, we must wait upon the One who works on our behalf.
