Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.
So now it is no more I that do it, but sin which dwelleth in me.
So now [if that is the case, then] it is no longer I who do it [the disobedient thing which I despise], but the sin [nature] which lives in me.
However, it is no longer I who do the deed, but the sin [principle] which is at home in me and has possession of me.
Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.
So now I am no longer the one doing it, but it is sin living in me.
But now I’m not the one doing it anymore. Instead, it’s sin that lives in me.
But now it is no longer “the real me” doing it, but the sin housed inside me.
So I am not the one doing these evil things. The sin that lives in me is what does them.
Now then [it is] no longer *I* [that] do it, but the sin that dwells in me.
And now I am no longer producing it, but the sin dwelling in me is.
Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.
But I am not really the one doing the evil. It is sin living in me that does it.
So it is not really I myself who am doing those wrong things. Instead, sin has power in my life. It is sin that causes me to do wrong things.
But now it is no longer I who am doing it, but it is sin living in me.
So now it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me.
So now it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me.
But [L now] I am not really the one who is doing these hated things; it is sin living in me that does them.
Now then, it is no more I, that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.
So I am no longer the one who is doing the things I hate, but sin that lives in me is doing them.
So I am not really the one who does this thing; rather it is the sin that lives in me.
So now I am no longer the one doing it, but it is sin living in me.
But I am not really the one who is doing these bad things. It is sin living in me that does these things.
As it is, I am no longer the one who is doing it, but it is the sin that is living in me.
After all, the Law itself is really concerned with the spiritual—it is I who am carnal, and have sold my soul to sin. In practice, what happens? My own behaviour baffles me. For I find myself not doing what I really want to do but doing what I really loathe. Yet surely if I do things that I really don’t want to do, I am admitting that I really agree with the Law. But it cannot be said that “I” am doing them at all—it must be sin that has made its home in my nature. (And indeed, I know from experience that the carnal side of my being can scarcely be called the home of good!) I often find that I have the will to do good, but not the power. That is, I don’t accomplish the good I set out to do, and the evil I don’t really want to do I find I am always doing. Yet if I do things that I don’t really want to do then it is not, I repeat, “I” who do them, but the sin which has made its home within me.
So that it is no longer I that do it, but sin that dwells in me.
Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.
Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.
So now, no longer am I the one working it out, but sin which dwells in me.
But now I am no longer the one doing it, but sin that lives in me.
But I can’t help myself because I’m no longer doing it. It is sin inside me that is stronger than I am that makes me do these evil things.
But I need something more! For if I know the law but still can’t keep it, and if the power of sin within me keeps sabotaging my best intentions, I obviously need help! I realize that I don’t have what it takes. I can will it, but I can’t do it. I decide to do good, but I don’t really do it; I decide not to do bad, but then I do it anyway. My decisions, such as they are, don’t result in actions. Something has gone wrong deep within me and gets the better of me every time.
So now it is no longer I that do it, but sin that dwells in me.
So now it is no longer I myself doing it, but · sin living in me.
So I am no longer the one who is doing the things I hate, but sin that lives in me is doing them.
So now it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me.
But now, no longer am I the one doing it, but sin that dwells in me.
So now, no longer am I the one doing it, but sin which dwells in me.
This indicates that it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me.
But I am not really the one who is doing these hated things; it is sin living in me that does them.
