Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye but do not notice or consider the beam [of timber] that is in your own eye?
And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but perceivest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
“Why do you look at the splinter in your brother’s eye, but don’t notice the beam of wood in your own eye?
Why do you see the splinter in your brother’s or sister’s eye but don’t notice the log in your own eye?
So why do you see the splinter in your brother’s eye, but not notice the log in your own eye?
You can see the speck in your friend's eye, but you don't notice the log in your own eye.
But why lookest thou on the mote which is in the eye of thy brother, but perceivest not the beam which is in thine own eye?
And why do you look-at the speck in the eye of your brother, but do not consider the log in your own eye?
And why seest thou the mote in thy brother's eye: but the beam that is in thy own eye thou considerest not?
“Why do you notice the small piece of dust that is in your friend’s eye, but you don’t see the big piece of wood that is in your own eye?
Perhaps you want to tell a friend about his little mistake. If you want to tell him, first remember your own bigger mistakes.
Why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but fail to notice the beam in your own eye?
Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?

“Why do you look at the speck in your brother's eye, but pay no attention to the log in your own eye?

“Why do you see the speck in your brother’s eye but fail to notice the beam in your own eye?
“Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and fail to notice the plank in your own? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye’ when you cannot see the plank in your own? You fraud, take the plank out of your own eye first and then you can see clearly enough to remove your brother’s speck.”
And why dost thou behold the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but not perceive the beam that is in thine own eye?

“And why quibble about the speck in someone else’s eye—his little fault —when a board is in your own?
“It’s easy to see a smudge on your neighbor’s face and be oblivious to the ugly sneer on your own. Do you have the nerve to say, ‘Let me wash your face for you,’ when your own face is distorted by contempt? It’s this I-know-better-than-you mentality again, playing a holier-than-thou part instead of just living your own part. Wipe that ugly sneer off your own face and you might be fit to offer a washcloth to your neighbor.
“Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not see the beam that is in your own eye?
