16 And therefore did the Jews persecute Jesus and sought to slay Him, because He had done these things on the Sabbath day.

The Son Is Equal to the Father

16 The Jews began to persecute Jesus because he kept healing people on the day of rest—a holy day.

16 So they began to persecute Jesus, because he had done this healing on a Sabbath.

Honoring the Father and the Son

16 Therefore, the Jews began persecuting Jesus because He was doing these things on the Sabbath.

16 Jesus was doing this on the Sabbath day. So the Jews began to do bad things to him.

16 So the Jewish leaders began persecuting Jesus, because he kept doing such things on the Sabbath.

16-17 It was because Jesus did such things on the Sabbath day that the Jews persecuted him. But Jesus’ answer to them was this, “My Father is still at work and therefore I work as well.”
