Then there arose a question between some of John’s disciples and the Jews about purifying.
There arose therefore a questioning on the part of John’s disciples with a Jew about purifying.
Therefore there arose a controversy between John’s disciples and a Jew in regard to purification (ceremonial washing).
Therefore there arose a controversy between some of John’s disciples and a Jew in regard to purification.
Then there arose a question between some of John’s disciples and the Jews about purifying.
Then a dispute arose between John’s disciples and a Jew about purification.
A debate started between John’s disciples and a certain Jew about cleansing rituals.
A discussion arose between some of Yochanan’s talmidim and a Judean about ceremonial washing;
John's followers got into an argument with a Jewish man about a ceremony of washing.
There was therefore a reasoning of the disciples of John with a Jew about purification.
Then a debate arose from the disciples of John with a Jew about purification.
And there arose a question between some of John's disciples and the Jews concerning purification:
Some of John’s followers had an argument with another Jew about religious washing.
John's disciples began to argue with a certain Jew about some Jewish rules. Those rules told people how they should wash properly.
Then an argument broke out between John’s disciples and a certain Jew about purification.
Now a discussion arose between some of John's disciples and a Jew over purification.
Now a discussion arose between some of John's disciples and a Jew over purification.
Some of John’s ·followers [disciples] had an ·argument [discussion; debate] with a Jew about ·religious washing [ceremonial cleansing; L purification; C the Jewish people washed themselves for ritual purposes before eating, before worshiping in the Temple, and at other special times].
Then there arose a question between John’s disciples and the Jews, about purifying.
Some of John’s disciples had an argument with a Jew about purification ceremonies.
Some of John's disciples began arguing with a Jew about the matter of ritual washing.
Then a dispute arose between John’s disciples and a Jew about purification.
Some of John’s followers had an argument with a Jew about religious washing.
Then a controversy about ritual purification sprang up between a certain Jew and John’s disciples,
This led to a question arising between John’s disciples and one of the Jews about the whole matter of being cleansed. They approached John and said to him, “Master, look, the man who was with you on the other side of the Jordan, the one you testified to, is now baptising and everybody is coming to him!”
Then there arose a question between the disciples of John and the Jews about purifying.
Then there arose a question between some of John's disciples and the Jews about purifying.
Then there arose a question between some of John’s disciples and the Jews about purifying.
Therefore there arose a debate between John’s disciples and a Jew about purification.
So a dispute occurred on the part of John’s disciples with a Jew concerning purification.
One day someone began an argument with John’s disciples, telling them that Jesus’ baptism was best.
After this conversation, Jesus went on with his disciples into the Judean countryside and relaxed with them there. He was also baptizing. At the same time, John was baptizing over at Aenon near Salim, where water was abundant. This was before John was thrown into jail. John’s disciples got into an argument with the establishment Jews over the nature of baptism. They came to John and said, “Rabbi, you know the one who was with you on the other side of the Jordan? The one you authorized with your witness? Well, he’s now competing with us. He’s baptizing, too, and everyone’s going to him instead of us.”
Then a dispute arose between some of John’s disciples and the Jews about ceremonial cleansing.
Now an argument about ritual cleansing arose between some of John’s disciples and a certain Jew.
Some of John’s disciples had an argument with a Jew about purification ceremonies.
Now a dispute arose between the disciples of John and a Jew about ceremonial washings.
Then a matter of dispute developed on the part of John’s disciples with a Jew about purification.
Therefore there arose a discussion on the part of John’s disciples with a Jew about purification.
Now a dispute about ceremonial washings arose between a certain Jew and the disciples of John.
Some of John’s followers had an argument with a Jew about religious washing.
Now a dispute came about between some of John’s disciples and a certain Jew concerning ceremonial washing.
Some of John’s disciples and a certain Jew began to argue. They argued about special washings to make people “clean.”
An argument developed between some of John’s disciples and a certain Jew over the matter of ceremonial washing.

Then there arose a dispute between some of John’s disciples and the Jews about purification.
Then some of the followers of John and a Jew started to argue about the religious washing of the Jewish worship.
A debate broke out between John’s disciples and a certain Jew over ceremonial cleansing.
And there arose a question between John’s disciples and the Jews about purifying.
Now a discussion about purification arose between John’s disciples and a Jew.
Now a discussion about purification arose between John’s disciples and a Jew.
Now a discussion about purification arose between John’s disciples and a Jew.
Now a discussion about purification arose between John’s disciples and a Jew.
There was, perhaps inevitably, a dispute between the disciples of John and a Judaean, on the subject of purification.
There was then a discussion of Yochanan’s talmidim with one of the Yehudim about the subject of tohorah (purification).
Then there arose a question between John’s disciples and the Jews about purification.
Now a discussion arose between John’s disciples and a Jew over purifying.
Now a discussion arose between John’s disciples and a Jew over purifying.
Now an argument came up between John’s disciples and a Judean concerning purification.
John’s activities raised questions about the nature of purification among his followers and a religious leader,
Therefore a dispute arose on the part of John’s disciples with some Jews about purification.
John's disciples and the leaders of the Jews were talking about how to be clean, the way God wants us to be clean.
Therefore a question was made of John's disciples with the Jews, of the purification [of the purification, or cleansing].
there arose then a question from the disciples of John with [some] Jews about purifying,
