Now in the same way as a fair exchange [for our love toward you]—I am speaking as [I would] to children—open wide [your hearts] to us also.

Now for a recompence in the same, (I speak as unto my children,) be ye also enlarged.

But as a fair trade—I’m talking to you like you are children—open your hearts wide too.

Oh, our dear friends in Corinth, we are hiding nothing from you and our hearts are absolutely open to you. Any stiffness between us must be on your side, for we assure you there is none on ours. Do reward me (I talk to you as though you were my own children) with the same complete candour!
Now for a recompense in the same (I speak as unto my children), be ye also enlarged.

Dear, dear Corinthians, I can’t tell you how much I long for you to enter this wide-open, spacious life. We didn’t fence you in. The smallness you feel comes from within you. Your lives aren’t small, but you’re living them in a small way. I’m speaking as plainly as I can and with great affection. Open up your lives. Live openly and expansively! * * *
In return (I speak as to my children) you also be open.

In return—I speak as to children—widen your hearts also.
Now in return—I speak as to my children—open wide to us also.
If I could offer some fatherly advice: open yourselves up as children; share your hearts with us as we have done for you.
Now in return, I speak as to my children: you also open your hearts.
I say this as to my own children. You should love us with all your hearts. with those who do not believe. You and they are not equal. How can people who do right, work with those who do not obey God? How can light and darkness be in the same place?
And I say as to sons, ye that have the same reward, be ye alarged. [Forsooth, we having the same reward, I say as to sons, and be ye alarged.]
and [as] a recompense of the same kind, (as to children I say [it],) be ye enlarged -- also ye!
