1 Corinthians 9:17
Print
For if I do this thing willingly, I have a reward; but if against my will, a dispensing of the Gospel is committed unto me.
For if I do this of mine own will, I have a reward: but if not of mine own will, I have a stewardship intrusted to me.
For if I do this work of my own free will, then I have a reward; but if it is not of my will [but by God’s choosing], I have been entrusted with a [sacred] stewardship.
For if I do this work of my own free will, then I have my pay (my reward); but if it is not of my own will, but is done reluctantly and under compulsion, I am [still] entrusted with a [sacred] trusteeship and commission.
For if I do this thing willingly, I have a reward: but if against my will, a dispensation of the gospel is committed unto me.
For if I do this willingly, I have a reward, but if unwillingly, I am entrusted with a commission.
If I do this voluntarily, I get rewarded for it. But if I’m forced to do it, then I’ve been charged with a responsibility.
For if I do this willingly, I have a reward; but if I do it unwillingly, I still do it, simply because I’ve been entrusted with a job.
If I preach because I want to, I will be paid. But even if I don't want to, it is still something God has sent me to do.
For if I do this voluntarily, I have a reward; but if not of my own will, I am entrusted with an administration.
For if I am practicing this of-my-own-will, I have a reward; but if not-of-my-own-will, I have been entrusted a stewardship.
For if I do this thing willingly, I have a reward: but if against my will, a dispensation is committed to me:
If I did it because it was my own choice, I would deserve to be paid. But I have no choice. I must tell the Good News. So I am only doing the duty that was given to me.
If I were doing this work because I chose to do it, I would receive my pay. But I myself did not choose to do it. God has given me this work, so I have to do it.
If I do this as a volunteer, I receive compensation. But if not, I have been entrusted with a responsibility as a steward.
For if I do this of my own will, I have a reward, but if not of my own will, I am still entrusted with a stewardship.
For if I do this of my own will, I have a reward, but if not of my own will, I am still entrusted with a stewardship.
If I preach ·because it is my own choice [voluntarily], I have a reward. But if I preach ·and it is not my choice to do so [without volunteering], I am ·only doing the duty that was given to me [L entrusted with a stewardship/responsibility].
For if I do it willingly, I have a reward, but if I do it against my will, notwithstanding the dispensation is committed unto me.
If I spread the Good News willingly, I’ll have a reward. But if I spread the Good News unwillingly, I’m ⌞only⌟ doing what I’ve been entrusted to do.
If I did my work as a matter of free choice, then I could expect to be paid; but I do it as a matter of duty, because God has entrusted me with this task.
For if I do this willingly, I have a reward, but if unwillingly, I am entrusted with a stewardship.
If I preach because it is my own choice, I should get a reward. But I have no choice. I must tell the Good News. I am only doing the duty that was given to me.
For if I preach voluntarily, I get a reward, but if I am unwilling to do it, I am still entrusted with that obligation.
For I take no special pride in the fact that I preach the Gospel. I feel compelled to do so; I should be utterly miserable if I failed to preach it. If I do this work because I choose to do so then I am entitled to a reward. But if it is no choice of mine, but a sacred responsibility put upon me, what can I expect in the way of reward? This, that when I preach the Gospel, I can make it absolutely free of charge, and need not claim what is my rightful due as a preacher. For though I am no man’s slave, yet I have made myself everyone’s slave, that I might win more men to Christ. To the Jews I was a Jew that I might win the Jews. To those who were under the Law I put myself in the position of being under the Law (although in fact I stand free of it), that I might win those who are under the Law. To those who had no Law I myself became like a man without the Law (even though in fact I cannot be a lawless man for I am bound by the law of Christ), so that I might win the men who have no Law. To the weak I became a weak man, that I might win the weak. I have, in short, been all things to all sorts of men that by every possible means I might win some to God. I do all this for the sake of the Gospel; I want to play my part in it properly.
For if I do this thing willingly, I have a reward; but if against my will, the stewardship of the gospel is committed unto me.
For if I do this thing willingly, I have a reward: but if against my will, a dispensation of the gospel is committed unto me.
For if I do this thing willingly, I have a reward: but if against my will, a dispensation of the gospel is committed unto me.
For if I do this voluntarily, I have a reward; but if against my will, I have a stewardship entrusted to me.
For if I do this voluntarily, I have a reward, but if I do so unwillingly, I have been entrusted with a stewardship.
If I were volunteering my services of my own free will, then the Lord would give me a special reward; but that is not the situation, for God has picked me out and given me this sacred trust, and I have no choice.
Still, I want it made clear that I’ve never gotten anything out of this for myself, and that I’m not writing now to get something. I’d rather die than give anyone ammunition to discredit me or question my motives. If I proclaim the Message, it’s not to get something out of it for myself. I’m compelled to do it, and doomed if I don’t! If this was my own idea of just another way to make a living, I’d expect some pay. But since it’s not my idea but something solemnly entrusted to me, why would I expect to get paid? So am I getting anything out of it? Yes, as a matter of fact: the pleasure of proclaiming the Message at no cost to you. You don’t even have to pay my expenses!
So if I do this willingly, I have a reward, but if against my will, I have been entrusted with a commission.
For if I do this willingly, I have a reward. But if unwillingly, I have been entrusted with a charge.
If I spread the Good News willingly, I’ll have a reward. But if I spread the Good News unwillingly, I’m only doing what I’ve been entrusted to do.
If I do so willingly, I have a recompense, but if unwillingly, then I have been entrusted with a stewardship.
For if I do this voluntarily, I have a reward; but if against my will, I have been entrusted with a commission nonetheless.
For if I do this voluntarily, I have a reward; but if against my will, I have a stewardship entrusted to me.
If I proclaimed the gospel of my own volition, I would deserve a reward; but if I do not do so voluntarily, I am simply discharging the commission that has been given to me.
If I preach because it is my own choice, I have a reward. But if I preach and it is not my choice to do so, I am only doing the duty that was given to me.
For if I do this voluntarily, I have a reward. But if I do it unwillingly, I am entrusted with a responsibility.
If I preach because I want to, I get a reward. If I preach because I have to, I’m only doing my duty.
If I preach voluntarily, I have a reward; if not voluntarily, I am simply discharging the trust committed to me.
If I preach voluntarily, I have a reward; if not voluntarily, I am simply discharging the trust committed to me.
For if I do this willingly, I have a reward; but if against my will, I have been entrusted with a stewardship.
If I do this because I want to, I will get my reward. If I do not want to do it, I am still expected to do it.
If I were doing this on my own initiative, I would deserve payment. But I have no choice, for God has given me this sacred trust.
If I do it with a good will, I have a reward. But if I do it against my will, an office is committed to me.
For if I do this of my own will, I have a reward; but if not of my own will, I am entrusted with a commission.
For if I do this of my own will, I have a reward; but if not of my own will, I am entrusted with a commission.
For if I do this of my own will, I have a reward; but if not of my own will, I am entrusted with a commission.
For if I do this of my own will, I have a wage, but if not of my own will, I am entrusted with a commission.
If I do it willingly, I have a reward; if I do it unwillingly—well, this is the commission that’s been entrusted to me!
For, if I do this willingly, I have a sachar (reward), but if unwillingly, then a ne’emanut (trusteeship), a kehunah for the Besuras HaGeulah [Ro 15:16] has been entrusted to me.
For if I do it willingly, I have a reward. But if I do it against my will, the stewardship is entrusted to me.
For if I do this of my own will, I have a reward; but if not of my own will, I am entrusted with a commission.
For if I do this of my own will, I have a reward; but if not of my own will, I am entrusted with a commission.
For if I do this of my own will, I have a reward. But if not of my own will, I have been entrusted with a commission.
You see, my story is different. I didn’t volunteer for this. Had I volunteered to preach the good news, then I would deserve a wage, a reward, or something. But I didn’t choose this. God chose me and entrusted me with this mission.
For if I do this of my own will, I have a reward. But if not of my own will, I have a stewardship entrusted to me.
If I do it because I want to do it, I get my pay. But if I do not want to do it, it is still my duty to do it.
But if I do this thing willfully, I have meed; but if against my will, dispensing is betaken to me. [Forsooth if I willing do this thing, I have meed; soothly if against my will, dispensation is betaken to me.]
for if willing I do this, I have a reward; and if unwillingly -- with a stewardship I have been entrusted!
