Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
O God, Do Not Forsake Me
71 (A)In You, O Yahweh, I have taken refuge;
Let me never be ashamed.
2 (B)In Your righteousness deliver me and protect me;
(C)Incline Your ear to me and save me.
3 (D)Be to me a rock of (E)habitation to which I may continually come;
You have given the (F)command to save me,
For You are (G)my [a]rock and my fortress.
4 (H)Protect me, O my God, out of the hand of the wicked,
Out of the [b]grasp of the unrighteous and ruthless man,
5 For You are my (I)hope;
O Lord Yahweh, You are my (J)trust from my youth.
6 [c]By You I have been (K)sustained from my birth;
You are He who (L)took me from my mother’s womb;
My (M)praise is continually [d]of You.
Yahweh Sends Jeremiah the Prophet
1 The words of (A)Jeremiah the son of Hilkiah, of the priests who were in (B)Anathoth in the land of Benjamin, 2 to whom the word of [a]Yahweh came in the days of (C)Josiah the son of (D)Amon, king of Judah, in the (E)thirteenth year of his reign. 3 And it came in the days of (F)Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, until the end of the eleventh year of (G)Zedekiah the son of Josiah, king of Judah, until the exile of Jerusalem in the fifth month.
The Almond Rod and Boiling Pot
11 Now the word of Yahweh came to me saying, “What do you see, (A)Jeremiah?” And I said, “I see a rod of an [a]almond tree.” 12 Then Yahweh said to me, “You have seen well, for (B)I am [b]watching over My word to do it.”
13 The word of Yahweh came to me a second time saying, “(C)What do you see?” And I said, “I see a boiling (D)pot, facing away from the north.” 14 Then Yahweh said to me, “(E)From the north the evil [c]will break open on all the inhabitants of the land. 15 For, behold, I am calling (F)all the families of the kingdoms of the north,” declares Yahweh; “and they will come, and each one of them will (G)put his throne at the opening of the gates of Jerusalem, and against all its walls round about and against all the (H)cities of Judah. 16 I will speak My judgments on them concerning all their evil, whereby they have (I)forsaken Me and have (J)burned incense to other gods and worshiped the (K)works of their own hands. 17 Now, (L)gird up your loins and arise and speak to them all which I command you. (M)Do not be dismayed before them, lest I dismay you before them. 18 Now behold, I have given you today as a fortified city and as a pillar of iron and as walls of bronze against the whole land, to the kings of Judah, to its princes, to its priests, and to the people of the land. 19 And they will fight against you, but they will not overcome you, for (N)I am with you to deliver you,” declares Yahweh.
Lord of the Sabbath
6 (A)Now it happened that on a Sabbath He was passing through some grainfields, and His disciples (B)were picking and eating the heads of grain, rubbing them in their hands. 2 But some of the Pharisees said, “Why do you do what (C)is not lawful on the Sabbath?” 3 And Jesus answered and said to them, “Have you never read (D)what David did when he was hungry, he and those who were with him, 4 how he entered the house of God, and took and ate the [a]consecrated bread which (E)is not lawful for any to eat except the priests alone, and gave it to his companions?” 5 And He was saying to them, “The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.”
