Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
8 You removed a (A)vine from Egypt;
You (B)drove out the [a]nations and then You (C)planted it.
9 You (D)cleared the ground before it,
And it (E)took deep root and filled the land.
10 The mountains were covered with its shadow,
And [b]the cedars of God with its (F)boughs.
11 It sent out its branches (G)to the sea
And its shoots to the River.
12 Why have You (H)broken down its [c]hedges,
So that all who pass that way pick its fruit?
13 A boar from the forest (I)devours it
And whatever moves in the field feeds on it.
14 O God of hosts, (J)return now, we beseech You;
(K)Look down from heaven and see, and visit this vine,
15 Even the [d](L)sapling which Your right hand has planted,
And on the [e]son whom You have [f]strengthened for Yourself.
16 It is (M)burned with fire, it is cut down;
They perish at the (N)rebuke of Your face.
17 Let (O)Your hand be upon the man of Your right hand,
Upon the son of man whom You (P)made strong for Yourself.
18 Then we shall not (Q)turn back from You;
(R)Revive us, and we will call upon Your name.
19 O Yahweh God of hosts, (S)restore us;
Cause Your face to shine upon us, that we might be saved.
18 In that day the Lord will remove the beauty of their anklets, headbands, (A)crescent ornaments, 19 dangling earrings, bracelets, veils, 20 (B)headdresses, ankle chains, sashes, perfume boxes, enchanted charms, 21 [a]finger rings, (C)nose rings, 22 festal robes, outer tunics, cloaks, money purses, 23 hand mirrors, undergarments, turbans, and shawls.
24 Now it will be that instead of [b]sweet (D)perfume there will be the smell of rot;
Instead of a belt, a rope;
Instead of (E)well-set hair, a (F)plucked-out scalp;
Instead of fine clothes, a (G)donning of sackcloth;
And branding instead of beauty.
25 Your men will (H)fall by the sword
And your [c]mighty ones in battle.
26 And her [d](I)gates will lament and mourn,
And deserted she will (J)sit on the ground.
4 And seven women will take hold of (K)one man in that day, saying, “We will eat our own bread and wear our own clothes, only let us be called by your name; (L)take away our reproach!”
The Branch of Yahweh Glorified
2 In that day the (M)Branch of Yahweh will be beautiful and glorious, and the (N)fruit of the earth will be the pride and the [e]honor of (O)those of Israel who escape. 3 It will be that he who (P)remains in Zion and is left in Jerusalem will be called (Q)holy—everyone who is (R)written down for life in Jerusalem. 4 When the Lord has washed away the filth of the (S)daughters of Zion and rinsed away the (T)bloodshed of Jerusalem from her midst, by the (U)spirit of judgment and the (V)spirit of burning, 5 then Yahweh will create over the whole area of Mount Zion and over her convocation (W)a cloud by day, even smoke, and the brightness of a flaming fire by night; for over all the (X)glory will be a canopy. 6 And there will be a (Y)booth to give shade from the heat by day, and refuge and a hiding place from the storm and the rain.
Abomination of Desolation and the Tribulation
15 “Therefore when you see the (A)abomination of desolation which was spoken of through Daniel the prophet, standing in (B)the holy place ((C)let the reader understand), 16 then those who are in Judea must flee to the mountains. 17 [a]Whoever is on (D)the housetop must not go down to get the things out that are in his house. 18 And [b]whoever is in the field must not turn back to get his garment. 19 But (E)woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days! 20 But pray that your flight will not be in the winter, or on a Sabbath. 21 For then there will be a (F)great tribulation, such as has not occurred since the beginning of the world until now, nor ever will. 22 And unless those days had been cut short, no [c]life would have been saved; but for (G)the sake of the [d]elect those days will be cut short. 23 (H)Then if anyone says to you, ‘Behold, here is the [e]Christ,’ or ‘[f]There He is,’ do not believe him. 24 For false christs and (I)false prophets will arise and will [g]show great [h](J)signs and wonders, so as to deceive, if possible, even (K)the [i]elect. 25 Behold, I have told you in advance. 26 Therefore, if they say to you, ‘Behold, He is in the wilderness,’ do not go out, or, ‘Behold, He is in the inner rooms,’ do not believe them. 27 (L)For just as the lightning comes from the east and appears even to the west, so will the (M)coming of the (N)Son of Man be.
