Psalm 27

27 1 David maketh this Psalm being delivered from great perils, as appeareth by the praises and thanksgiving annexed:  6 Wherein we may see the constant faith of David against the assaults of all his enemies. 7 And also the end wherefore he desireth to live and to be delivered, only to worship God in his Congregation.

A Psalm of David.

The Lord is my [a]light and my salvation, whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life, of whom shall I be afraid?

When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell.

Though an host pitched against me, mine heart should not be afraid: though war be raised against me, I will trust in [b]this.

[c]One thing have I desired of the Lord, that I will require, even that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to visit his Temple.

For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his Tabernacle: in the secret place of his pavilion shall he hide me, and set me up upon a rock.

[d]And now shall he lift up mine head above mine enemies round about me: therefore will I offer in his Tabernacle sacrifices of joy: I will sing and praise the Lord.

Hearken unto my voice, O Lord, when I cry: have mercy also upon me and hear me.

When thou saidest, [e]Seek ye my face, mine heart answered unto thee, O Lord, I will seek thy face.

Hide not therefore thy face from me, nor cast thy servant away in displeasure: thou hast been my succor, leave me not, neither forsake me, O God of my salvation.

10 [f]Though my father and my mother should forsake me, yet the Lord will gather me up.

11 Teach me thy way, O Lord, and lead me in a right path, because of mine enemies.

12 Give me not unto the [g]lust of mine adversaries: for there are false witnesses risen up against me, and such as speak cruelly.

13 I should have fainted, except I had believed to see the goodness of the Lord [h]in the land of the living.

14 [i]Hope in the Lord: be strong, and he shall comfort thine heart, and trust in the Lord.

Malachi 2:10-3:1

10 Have we not all one [a]father? hath not one God made us? why do we transgress everyone against his brother, and break the covenant of [b]our fathers?

11 Judah hath transgressed, and an abomination is committed in Israel and in Jerusalem: for Israel hath defiled the holiness of the Lord, which he loved, and hath married the [c]daughter of a strange god.

12 The Lord will cut off the man that doeth this: both the master and the servant out of the Tabernacle of Jacob, and him that [d]offereth an offering unto the Lord of hosts.

13 And this have ye done again, and [e]covered the altar of the Lord with tears, with weeping and with mourning: because the offering is no more regarded, neither received acceptably at your hands.

14 Yet ye say, [f]Wherein? Because the Lord hath been witness between thee and the wife of thy youth, against whom thou hast transgressed: yet is she thy [g]companion, and the wife of thy [h]covenant.

15 And did not [i]he make one? yet had he [j]abundance of spirit: and wherefore one? because he sought a godly [k]seed: therefore keep yourselves in your [l]spirit, and let none trespass against the wife of his youth.

16 If thou hatest her, [m]put her away, saith the Lord God of Israel, yet he covereth [n]the injury under his garment, saith the Lord of hosts: therefore keep yourselves in your spirit, and transgress not.

17 Ye have [o]wearied the Lord with your words: yet ye say wherein have we wearied him? When ye say, Everyone that doeth [p]evil, is good in the sight of the Lord, and he delighteth in them. Or where is the God of [q]judgment?

1 Of the messenger of the Lord, John Baptist, and of Christ’s office.

Behold, I will send my [r]messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the [s]Lord whom ye seek, shall speedily come to his Temple: even the [t]messenger of the Covenant, whom ye desire: behold, he shall come, saith the Lord of hosts.

Luke 1:5-17

In [a]the [b]time of [c]Herod King of Judea, there was a certain Priest named Zacharias, of the (A)[d]course of Abijah: and his wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth.

Both were [e]just before God, and [f]walked in all the [g]commandments and ordinances of the Lord, [h]without reproof.

And they had no child, because that Elizabeth was barren: and both were well stricken in age.

And it came to pass, as he executed the Priest’s office before God, as his course came in order,

(B)According to the custom of the Priest’s office, his lot was to burn incense, when he went into the [i]Temple of the Lord.

10 And the whole multitude of the people were without in prayer, (C)while the incense was burning.

11 Then appeared unto him an Angel of the Lord, standing at the right side of the Altar of incense.

12 And when Zacharias saw him, he was troubled, and fear fell upon him.

13 But the Angel said unto him, Fear not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard, and thy wife Elizabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John.

14 And thou shalt have joy and gladness, and many shall rejoice at his birth.

15 For he shall be great in the [j]sight of the Lord, and shall neither drink wine, nor [k]strong drink: and he shall be filled with the holy Ghost, even from his mother’s womb.

16 (D)And many of the children of Israel shall he [l]turn to their Lord God.

17 (E)For he shall go [m]before him [n]in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the [o]hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the [p]wisdom of the just men, to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.
