Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
You Forgave the Iniquity of My Sin
Of David. A [a]Maskil.
32 (A)How blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven,
Whose sin is covered!
2 How blessed is the man whose iniquity Yahweh (B)will not take into account,
And in whose spirit there is (C)no deceit!
3 When (D)I kept silent about my sin, (E)my [b]bones wasted away
Through my [c](F)groaning all day long.
4 For day and night (G)Your hand was heavy upon me;
My [d](H)vitality was drained away as with the heat of summer. [e]Selah.
5 I (I)acknowledged my sin to You,
And my iniquity I (J)did not cover up;
I said, “(K)I will confess my transgressions to Yahweh;”
And You (L)forgave the [f]iniquity of my sin. Selah.
6 Therefore, let every holy one pray to You [g](M)at a time when You may be found;
Surely (N)in a flood of great waters they will not reach him.
7 You are (O)my hiding place; You (P)guard me from trouble;
You surround me with [h](Q)songs of deliverance. Selah.
8 I will (R)give you insight and teach you in the way which you should go;
I will counsel you (S)with My eye upon you.
9 Do not be (T)as the horse or as the mule which have no understanding,
Whose harness are bit and bridle to control them,
Otherwise they will not come near you.
10 Many are the (U)sorrows of the wicked,
But (V)he who trusts in Yahweh, lovingkindness shall surround him.
11 Be (W)glad in Yahweh and rejoice, you righteous ones;
And shout for joy, all you who are (X)upright in heart.
15 For thus Yahweh, the God of Israel, says to me, “Take this (A)cup of the wine of wrath from My hand and cause all the nations to whom I send you to drink it. 16 They will (B)drink and stagger and go mad because of the sword that I will send among them.”
17 Then I took the cup from the hand of Yahweh and (C)made all the nations to whom Yahweh sent me drink it: 18 (D)Jerusalem and the cities of Judah and its kings and its princes, to make them a waste place, an object of horror, an object of hissing, and a curse, as it is this day; 19 (E)Pharaoh king of Egypt, his servants, his princes, and all his people, 20 and all the [a](F)foreign people, all the kings of the (G)land of Uz, all the kings of the land of the (H)Philistines (even Ashkelon, Gaza, Ekron, and the remnant of (I)Ashdod), 21 (J)Edom, (K)Moab, and the sons of (L)Ammon, 22 and all the kings of (M)Tyre, all the kings of Sidon, and the kings of (N)the coastlands which are beyond the sea, 23 and (O)Dedan, Tema, (P)Buz, and all who (Q)cut [b]the corners of their hair, 24 and all the kings of (R)Arabia and all the kings of the [c](S)foreign people who dwell in the desert, 25 and all the kings of Zimri, all the kings of (T)Elam, and all the kings of (U)Media, 26 and all the kings of the north, near and far, one with another; and (V)all the kingdoms of the earth which are upon the face of the ground, and the king of [d](W)Sheshach shall drink after them.
27 “You shall say to them, ‘Thus says Yahweh of hosts, the God of Israel, “(X)Drink, be drunk, vomit, fall, and rise no more because of the (Y)sword which I will send among you.”’ 28 And it will be, if they (Z)refuse to take the cup from your hand to drink, then you will say to them, ‘Thus says Yahweh of hosts: “(AA)You shall surely drink! 29 For behold, I am (AB)beginning to bring evil against this city which is (AC)called by My name. But shall you be completely free from punishment? You will not be free from punishment, for (AD)I am calling for a sword against all the inhabitants of the earth,” declares Yahweh of hosts.’
44 “Our fathers had (A)the tabernacle of testimony in the wilderness, just as He, who spoke to Moses, directed him to make it (B)according to the pattern which he had seen. 45 And having received it in their turn, our fathers (C)brought it in with [a]Joshua when they dispossessed the [b]nations whom God drove out before our fathers, until the time of David. 46 (D)David found favor in the sight of God, and (E)asked that he might find a dwelling place for the [c]God of Jacob. 47 But (F)Solomon built a house for Him. 48 However, (G)the Most High does not dwell in houses made by human hands, as the prophet says:
49 ‘(H)Heaven is My throne,
And earth is the footstool of My feet.
What kind of house will you build for Me?’ says the Lord,
‘Or what place is there for My rest?
50 (I)Was it not My hand which made all these things?’
51 “You men—(J)stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears—are always resisting the Holy Spirit. As your fathers did, so do you. 52 (K)And which one of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? They killed those who had previously announced the coming of (L)the Righteous One, whose betrayers and murderers (M)you have now become; 53 you who received the Law as (N)ordained by angels, and yet did not observe it.”
