Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
Bless Yahweh, O My Soul
Of David.
103 (A)Bless Yahweh, O my soul,
And all that is within me, bless His (B)holy name.
2 Bless Yahweh, O my soul,
And (C)forget none of His benefits;
3 Who (D)pardons all your iniquities,
Who (E)heals all your diseases;
4 Who (F)redeems your life from the pit,
Who (G)crowns you with lovingkindness and compassion;
5 Who (H)satisfies your [a]years with good things,
So that your youth is (I)renewed like the eagle.
A Sabbath-breaker Put to Death
32 Now the sons of Israel were in the wilderness, and they found a man (A)gathering wood on the sabbath day. 33 And those who found him gathering wood brought him near to Moses and Aaron and to all the congregation; 34 and they put him in [a]custody (B)because it had not been [b]declared what should be done to him. 35 Then Yahweh said to Moses, “The man shall surely be put to death; (C)all the congregation shall stone him with stones outside the camp.” 36 So all the congregation brought him outside the camp and stoned him [c]to death with stones, just as Yahweh had commanded Moses.
37 Yahweh also spoke to Moses, saying, 38 “Speak to the sons of Israel, and tell them that they shall make for themselves (D)tassels on the corners of their garments throughout their generations, and that they shall put on the tassel of each corner a cord of blue. 39 And it shall be a tassel for you [d]to look at and (E)remember all the commandments of Yahweh, so as to do them and not [e]follow after your own heart and your own eyes, after which you played the harlot, 40 so that you may remember to do all My commandments and (F)be holy to your God. 41 I am Yahweh your God who brought you out from the land of Egypt to be your God; I am Yahweh your God.”
3 For (A)consider Him who has endured such hostility by sinners against Himself, so that you will not grow weary, (B)fainting [a]in heart.
The Father’s Discipline
4 (C)You have not yet resisted [b](D)to the point of shedding blood in your striving against sin. 5 And you have forgotten the exhortation which is addressed to you as sons,
“(E)My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the [c]Lord,
Nor (F)faint when you are reproved by Him;
6 (G)For those (H)whom the [d]Lord loves He disciplines,
And He flogs every son whom He receives.”
7 It is for discipline that you endure; (I)God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom his father does not discipline? 8 But if you are without discipline, (J)of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate children and not sons. 9 Furthermore, we [e]had [f]earthly fathers to discipline us, and we (K)respected them. Shall we not much rather be subject to (L)the Father of [g]spirits, and (M)live? 10 For they disciplined us for a short time as seemed best to them, but He disciplines us for our benefit, (N)so that we may share His holiness. 11 And all discipline (O)for the moment seems not to be joyful, but sorrowful, but to those who have been trained by it, afterwards it yields the (P)peaceful fruit of righteousness.
12 Therefore, [h](Q)strengthen the hands that are weak and the knees that are feeble, 13 and (R)make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be put out of joint, but rather (S)be healed.
14 (T)Pursue peace with all men, and the (U)sanctification without which no one will (V)see the Lord, 15 seeing to it that no one (W)falls short of the grace of God; that no (X)root of bitterness springing up causes trouble, and by it many be (Y)defiled; 16 that also there be no (Z)sexually immoral or (AA)godless person like Esau, (AB)who sold his own birthright for a single meal. 17 For you know that even afterwards, (AC)when he desired to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, for he found no place for repentance, though he sought for it with tears.
