Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
9 Rejoice greatly, O daughter Zion: shout for joy, O daughter Jerusalem: behold, thy king cometh unto thee: [a]he is just, and saved himself, poor and riding upon an [b]ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass.
10 And I will cut off the [c]chariots from Ephraim, and the horse from Jerusalem: the bow of the battle shall be broken, and he shall speak peace unto the heathen, and his dominion shall be from [d]sea unto sea, and from the [e]River to the end of the land.
11 [f]Thou also shall be saved through the blood of thy covenant. I have loosed thy [g]prisoners out of the pit wherein is no water.
12 Turn you to the [h]stronghold, ye [i]prisoners of hope: even today do I declare, that I will render the [j]double unto thee.
8 (A)The Lord is gracious, and [a]merciful, slow to anger, and of great mercy.
9 The Lord is good to all, and his mercies are over all his works.
10 All thy works praise thee, O Lord, and thy Saints bless thee.
11 [b]They show the glory of thy kingdom, and speak of thy power,
12 To cause his [c]power to be known to the sons of men, and the glorious renown of his kingdom.
13 Thy (B)kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and thy dominion endureth throughout all ages.
14 The Lord upholdeth all that [d]fall, and lifteth up all that are ready to fall.
15 [a]For I [b]allow not that which I do: for what I [c]would, that do I not: but what I hate, that do I.
16 If I do then that which I would not, I consent to the Law, that it is good.
17 Now then, it is no more I, that do it, but [d]sin that dwelleth in me.
18 [e]For I know, that in me, that is, in my flesh, dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me: but I find [f]no means to perform that which is good,
19 For I do not the good thing, which I would, but the evil, which I would not, that do I.
20 Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but the sin that dwelleth in me.
21 [g]I find then that when I would do good, I am thus yoked, that evil is present with me.
22 For I delight in the Law of God, concerning the [h]inner man.
23 But I see another Law in my members, rebelling against the law of my [i]mind, and leading me captive unto the law of sin, which is in my members.
24 [j]O [k]wretched man that I am, who shall deliver me from the body of this death!
25 I [l]thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. Then I [m]myself in my mind serve the Law of God, but in my flesh the law of sin.
16 (A)[a]But whereunto shall I liken this generation? [b]It is like unto little children which sit in the markets, and call unto their fellows,
17 And say, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced, we have mourned unto you, and ye have not lamented.
18 For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a devil.
19 The Son of men came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a glutton and a drinker of wine, a friend unto Publicans and sinners: [c]but [d]wisdom is justified of her children.
25 (A)At that time Jesus answered and said, I give thee thanks, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise, and men of understanding, and hast [a]opened them unto babes.
26 It is [b]so, O Father, because thy [c]good pleasure was such.
27 (B)[d]All things are given unto me of my Father: and (C)no man knoweth the Son, but the Father: neither knoweth any man the Father, but the Son, and he to whom the Son will reveal him.
28 Come unto me, all ye that are weary and laden, and I will ease you.
29 Take my yoke on you, and learn of me that I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find (D)rest unto your souls.
