Bible in 90 Days
14 (A)Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne;
(B)Lovingkindness and [a]truth go before You.
15 How blessed are the people who know the (C)loud shout of joy!
O Yahweh, they walk in the (D)light of Your face.
16 In (E)Your name they rejoice all the day,
And by Your righteousness they are exalted.
17 For You are the beauty of (F)their strength,
And by Your favor [b]our (G)horn is exalted.
18 For our (H)shield belongs to Yahweh,
[c]And our king to the (I)Holy One of Israel.
19 Formerly You spoke in vision to Your [d]holy [e]ones,
And said, “I have bestowed help to a (J)mighty one;
I have exalted one (K)chosen from the people.
20 I have (L)found David My [f]servant;
With My holy (M)oil I have anointed him,
21 With whom (N)My hand will be established;
My arm also will (O)strengthen him.
22 The enemy will not [g]deceive him,
Nor the [h](P)son of unrighteousness afflict him.
23 But I shall (Q)crush his adversaries before him,
And strike those who hate him.
24 My (R)faithfulness and My lovingkindness will be with him,
And in My name his (S)horn will be exalted.
25 I shall also set his hand (T)on the sea
And his right hand on the rivers.
26 He will call to Me, ‘You are (U)my Father,
My God, and the (V)rock of my salvation.’
27 I also shall make him My (W)firstborn,
The (X)highest of the kings of the earth.
28 My (Y)lovingkindness I will keep for him forever,
And My (Z)covenant shall be confirmed to him.
29 So I will set up his (AA)seed to endure forever
And his (AB)throne (AC)as the days of heaven.
30 “If his sons (AD)forsake My law
And do not walk in My judgments,
31 If they profane My statutes
And do not keep My commandments,
32 Then I will punish their transgression with the (AE)rod
And their iniquity with striking.
33 But I will not break off (AF)My lovingkindness from him,
Nor deal falsely in My faithfulness.
34 My (AG)covenant I will not profane,
Nor will I (AH)alter what comes forth from My lips.
35 [i]Once I have (AI)sworn by My holiness;
I will not lie to David.
36 His (AJ)seed shall endure forever
And his (AK)throne (AL)as the sun before Me.
37 It shall be established forever (AM)like the moon,
And the (AN)witness in the sky is faithful.” [j]Selah.
38 But You have (AO)cast off and (AP)rejected,
You have been full of wrath [k]against Your (AQ)anointed.
39 You have (AR)spurned the covenant of Your [l]slave;
You have (AS)profaned (AT)his crown to the ground.
40 You have (AU)broken down all his walls;
You have (AV)beset his strongholds with ruin.
41 (AW)All who pass along the way plunder him;
He has become a (AX)reproach to his neighbors.
42 You have (AY)exalted the right hand of his adversaries;
You have (AZ)made all his enemies be glad.
43 You also turn back the edge of his sword
And have (BA)not made him arise in battle.
44 You have made his [m](BB)splendor to cease
And cast his throne to the ground.
45 You have (BC)shortened the days of his youth;
You have (BD)wrapped him up with shame. Selah.
46 (BE)How long, O Yahweh?
Will You hide Yourself forever?
Will Your (BF)wrath burn like fire?
47 (BG)Remember [n]what my span of life is;
For what (BH)vanity [o]You have created all the sons of men!
48 What man can live and not (BI)see death?
Can he (BJ)provide his soul escape from the [p]power of Sheol? Selah.
49 Where are Your former lovingkindnesses, O Lord,
Which You (BK)swore to David in Your faithfulness?
50 Remember, O Lord, the (BL)reproach of Your [q]slaves;
[r]How I bear in my bosom the reproach of all the many peoples,
51 With which (BM)Your enemies have reproached, O Yahweh,
With which they have reproached the footsteps of (BN)Your anointed.
52 (BO)Blessed be Yahweh forever!
Amen and Amen.
BOOK 4
From Everlasting to Everlasting, You Are God
A Prayer of [s]Moses, the man of God.
90 Lord, You have been our [t](BP)dwelling place from generation to generation.
2 Before (BQ)the mountains were born
[u]Or You (BR)brought forth the earth and the world,
Even (BS)from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.
3 You (BT)turn man back into dust
And say, “Return, O sons of men.”
4 For (BU)a thousand years in Your sight
Are like (BV)yesterday when it passes by,
[v]Or as a (BW)watch in the night.
5 You (BX)have [w]swept them away like a flood, they [x](BY)fall asleep;
In the morning they are like (BZ)grass which [y]sprouts anew.
6 In the morning it (CA)blossoms and [z]sprouts anew;
Toward evening it (CB)withers away and (CC)dries up.
7 For we have been (CD)consumed by Your anger
And by Your wrath we have been [aa]dismayed.
8 You have (CE)set our iniquities before You,
Our (CF)secret sins in the light of Your presence.
9 For (CG)all our days have declined in Your fury;
We have finished our years like a [ab]sigh.
10 As for the days of our [ac]life, [ad]they contain seventy years,
Or if due to might, (CH)eighty years,
Yet their pride is but (CI)labor and wickedness;
For soon it is gone and we (CJ)fly away.
11 Who knows the (CK)power of Your anger
And Your fury, according to the (CL)fear [ae]that is due You?
12 [af]So (CM)teach us to number our days,
That we may [ag](CN)present to You a heart of wisdom.
13 (CO)Return, O Yahweh; (CP)how long will it be?
And [ah]be (CQ)sorry for Your slaves.
14 O (CR)satisfy us in the morning with Your lovingkindness,
That we may (CS)sing for joy and be glad all our days.
15 (CT)Make us glad [ai]according to the days You have afflicted us,
And the (CU)years we have seen [aj]evil.
16 Let Your (CV)work appear to Your slaves
And Your (CW)majesty [ak]to their sons.
17 Let the (CX)favor of the Lord our God be upon us;
And (CY)establish for us the work of our hands;
Establish the work of our hands.
In the Shadow of the Almighty
91 He who abides in the (CZ)shelter of the Most High
Will abide in the (DA)shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say to Yahweh, “My (DB)refuge and my (DC)fortress,
My God, in whom I (DD)trust!”
3 For it is He who delivers you from the (DE)snare of the trapper
And from the destructive (DF)pestilence.
4 He will (DG)cover you with His pinions,
And (DH)under His wings you will take refuge;
His (DI)truth is a (DJ)large shield and bulwark.
5 You (DK)will not be afraid of (DL)terror by night,
Or (DM)arrow that flies by day;
6 Of (DN)pestilence that moves in darkness,
Or of (DO)destruction that devastates at noon.
7 A thousand may fall at your side
And ten thousand at your right hand,
But (DP)it shall not approach you.
8 You will only look on with your eyes
And (DQ)see the recompense of the wicked.
9 [al]For you have made Yahweh—(DR)my refuge,
The Most High—(DS)your dwelling place.
10 (DT)No evil will befall you,
And no plague will come near your [am]tent.
11 For He will command (DU)His angels concerning you,
To guard you in all your ways.
12 On their hands they will (DV)bear you up,
Lest you strike your foot against a stone.
13 You will (DW)tread upon the fierce lion and cobra,
The young lion and the [an]serpent you will trample down.
14 “(DX)Because he has loved Me, therefore I will protect him;
I will (DY)set him securely on high, because he has (DZ)known My name.
15 He will (EA)call upon Me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in his [ao]distress;
I will rescue him and (EB)honor him.
16 With [ap]a (EC)long life I will satisfy him
And (ED)I will show him My salvation.”
How Great Are Your Works, O Yahweh
A Psalm. A Song for the Sabbath day.
92 It is (EE)good to give thanks to Yahweh
And to (EF)sing praises to Your name, O Most High;
2 To (EG)declare Your lovingkindness in the morning
And Your (EH)faithfulness [aq]by night,
3 [ar]With the (EI)ten-stringed lute and with the (EJ)harp,
[as]With resounding music [at]upon the (EK)lyre.
4 For You, O Yahweh, have made me glad by [au]what You (EL)have done,
I will (EM)sing for joy at the (EN)works of Your hands.
5 How (EO)great are Your works, O Yahweh!
Your [av](EP)thoughts are very (EQ)deep.
6 A (ER)senseless man does not know,
And a (ES)fool does not understand this:
7 That when the wicked (ET)flourished like grass
And all (EU)the workers of iniquity blossomed,
It was only that they might be (EV)destroyed forevermore.
8 But You are (EW)on high forever, O Yahweh.
9 For, behold, Your enemies, O Yahweh,
For, behold, (EX)Your enemies will perish;
All the workers of iniquity will be (EY)scattered.
10 But You have raised up my (EZ)horn like that of the wild ox;
I have [aw]been (FA)anointed with fresh oil.
11 And my eye has (FB)looked exultantly upon [ax]my foes,
My ears hear of the evildoers who rise up against me.
12 The (FC)righteous man will [ay]flourish like the palm tree,
He will grow like a (FD)cedar in Lebanon.
13 (FE)Planted in the house of Yahweh,
They will flourish (FF)in the courts of our God.
14 They will still [az](FG)yield fruit in old age;
They shall be [ba]rich and fresh,
15 To [bb]declare that (FH)Yahweh is upright;
He is my (FI)rock, and there is (FJ)no unrighteousness in Him.
Yahweh Reigns Forevermore
93 (FK)Yahweh [bc]reigns, He is (FL)clothed with majesty;
Yahweh has (FM)clothed and girded Himself with strength;
Indeed, the (FN)world is established, it will not be shaken.
2 Your (FO)throne is established from of old;
You (FP)are from everlasting.
3 The (FQ)rivers have lifted up, O Yahweh,
The rivers have lifted up their voice,
The rivers lift up their pounding waves.
4 More than the voices of many waters,
Than the mighty breakers of the sea,
Yahweh (FR)on high is mighty.
5 Your (FS)testimonies are very faithful;
(FT)Holiness befits Your house,
O Yahweh, [bd]forevermore.
God of Vengeance, Shine Forth
94 O Yahweh, God of [be](FU)vengeance,
God of [bf]vengeance, [bg](FV)shine forth!
2 (FW)Be lifted up, O (FX)Judge of the earth,
Render recompense (FY)to the proud.
3 How long shall the wicked, O Yahweh,
How long shall the (FZ)wicked exult?
4 They pour forth words, they (GA)speak arrogantly;
All workers of iniquity (GB)vaunt themselves.
5 They (GC)crush Your people, O Yahweh,
And (GD)afflict Your inheritance.
6 They (GE)slay the widow and the sojourner
And murder the orphans.
7 (GF)They have said, “Yah does not see,
Nor does the God of Jacob discern.”
8 Discern, you (GG)senseless among the people;
And when will you have insight, (GH)you fools?
9 He who (GI)planted the ear, [bh]does He not hear?
He who formed the eye, [bi]does He not see?
10 He who [bj](GJ)disciplines the nations, will He not rebuke,
Even He who (GK)teaches man knowledge?
11 Yahweh (GL)knows the thoughts of man,
[bk]That they are vanity.
12 Blessed is the man whom (GM)You discipline, O Yah,
And (GN)whom You teach out of Your law;
13 That You may grant him (GO)calm from the (GP)days of calamity,
Until (GQ)a pit is dug for the wicked.
14 For (GR)Yahweh will not abandon His people,
Nor will He (GS)forsake His inheritance.
15 For [bl](GT)judgment will [bm]again be righteous,
And all the upright in heart will [bn]follow it.
16 Who will (GU)arise for me against evildoers?
Who will take his stand for me (GV)against workers of iniquity?
17 If (GW)Yahweh had not been my help,
My soul would soon have dwelt in the abode of silence.
18 If I should say, “(GX)My foot has stumbled,”
Your lovingkindness, O Yahweh, will hold me up.
19 When my anxious thoughts [bo]multiply within me,
Your (GY)consolations delight my soul.
20 Can a [bp](GZ)throne of destruction be allied with You,
One (HA)which forms [bq]trouble by statute?
21 They (HB)band themselves together against the [br]life of the righteous
And (HC)condemn [bs]the innocent to death.
22 But Yahweh has been my (HD)stronghold,
And my God the (HE)rock of my refuge.
23 He has (HF)brought back their [bt]iniquity upon them
And will [bu](HG)destroy them in their evil;
Yahweh our God will [bv]destroy them.
Let Us Kneel Before Yahweh Our Maker
95 Oh come, let us (HH)sing for joy to Yahweh,
Let us make a loud shout to (HI)the rock of our salvation.
2 Let us (HJ)come before His presence (HK)with [bw]thanksgiving,
Let us make a loud shout to Him (HL)with songs of praise.
3 For Yahweh is a (HM)great God
And a great King (HN)above all gods,
4 In whose hand are the (HO)depths of the earth,
The peaks of the mountains are His also.
5 [bx]The sea is His, for it was He (HP)who made it,
And His hands formed the dry land.
6 Come, let us (HQ)worship and bow down,
Let us (HR)kneel before Yahweh our (HS)Maker.
7 For He is our God,
And (HT)we are the people of His (HU)pasture and the sheep of His hand.
(HV)Today, [by]if you hear His voice,
8 Do not harden your hearts, as at [bz](HW)Meribah,
As in the day of [ca](HX)Massah in the wilderness,
9 “When your fathers (HY)tried Me,
They tested Me, though they had seen My work.
10 For (HZ)forty years I loathed that generation,
And said they are a people who wander in their heart,
And they do not know My ways.
11 Therefore I (IA)swore in My anger,
They shall never enter into My (IB)rest.”
Ascribe to Yahweh Glory and Strength
96 (IC)Sing to Yahweh a (ID)new song;
Sing to Yahweh, all the earth.
2 Sing to Yahweh, bless His name;
(IE)Proclaim good news of His salvation from day to day.
3 Recount (IF)His glory among the nations,
His wondrous deeds among all the peoples.
4 For (IG)great is Yahweh and (IH)greatly to be praised;
He is [cb]more [cc](II)fearsome (IJ)than all gods.
5 For (IK)all the gods of the peoples are [cd]idols,
But (IL)Yahweh made the heavens.
6 (IM)Splendor and majesty are before Him,
Strength and beauty are in His sanctuary.
7 [ce]Ascribe to Yahweh, O (IN)families of the peoples,
[cf](IO)Ascribe to Yahweh glory and strength.
8 Ascribe to Yahweh the (IP)glory of His name;
Lift up [cg]an (IQ)offering and come into His courts.
9 (IR)Worship Yahweh in the splendor of holiness;
(IS)Tremble before Him, all the earth.
10 Say among the nations, “(IT)Yahweh [ch]reigns;
Indeed, the (IU)world is established, it will not be shaken;
He will (IV)render justice to the peoples with [ci]equity.”
11 Let the (IW)heavens be glad, and let the (IX)earth rejoice;
Let (IY)the sea [cj]roar, as well as its fullness;
12 Let the (IZ)field exult, and all that is in it.
Then all the (JA)trees of the forest will sing for joy
13 Before Yahweh, (JB)for He is coming,
For He is coming to judge the earth.
(JC)He will judge the world in righteousness
And the peoples in His faithfulness.
Remember His Holy Name
97 (JD)Yahweh [ck]reigns, let the (JE)earth rejoice;
Let the many (JF)coastlands be glad.
2 (JG)Clouds and thick darkness are all around Him;
(JH)Righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne.
3 (JI)Fire goes before Him
And (JJ)burns up His adversaries all around.
4 His (JK)lightnings light up the world;
The earth sees and (JL)trembles.
5 The mountains (JM)melt like wax at the presence of Yahweh,
At the presence of the (JN)Lord of all the earth.
6 The (JO)heavens declare His righteousness,
And (JP)all the peoples see His glory.
7 Let all those be ashamed who serve (JQ)graven images,
Who boast of (JR)idols;
[cl](JS)Worship Him, all you [cm]gods!
8 Zion [cn]heard this and (JT)was glad,
And the daughters of Judah have rejoiced
Because of Your judgments, O Yahweh.
9 For You are Yahweh (JU)Most High over all the earth;
You are exalted far (JV)above all [co]gods.
10 (JW)Hate evil, you who love Yahweh,
Who (JX)keeps the souls of His holy ones;
He (JY)delivers them from the hand of the wicked.
11 (JZ)Light is sown for the righteous
And (KA)gladness for the upright in heart.
12 Be (KB)glad in Yahweh, you righteous ones,
And (KC)give thanks for the remembrance of [cp]His holy name.
Sing to Yahweh a New Song
A Psalm.
98 Sing to Yahweh a (KD)new song,
For He has done (KE)wondrous deeds,
His (KF)right hand and His (KG)holy arm have [cq]worked out His salvation.
2 (KH)Yahweh has made known His salvation;
He has (KI)revealed His righteousness in the eyes of the nations.
3 He has (KJ)remembered His lovingkindness and His faithfulness to the house of Israel;
(KK)All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.
4 (KL)Make a loud shout to Yahweh, all the earth;
(KM)Break forth and sing for joy and sing praises.
5 Sing praises to Yahweh with the (KN)lyre,
With the lyre and the (KO)sound of singing.
6 With (KP)trumpets and the sound of the horn
(KQ)Make a loud shout before (KR)King Yahweh.
7 Let the (KS)sea roar, as well as its fullness,
The (KT)world and those who dwell in it.
8 Let the (KU)rivers clap their hands,
Let the (KV)mountains sing together for joy
9 Before Yahweh, for He is coming to (KW)judge the earth;
He will judge the world with righteousness
And (KX)the peoples with [cr]equity.
Holy Is Yahweh Our God
99 (KY)Yahweh reigns, let the peoples tremble;
He (KZ)sits enthroned above the cherubim, let the earth quake!
2 Yahweh is (LA)great in Zion,
And He is (LB)exalted above all the peoples.
3 Let them praise Your (LC)great and awesome name;
(LD)Holy is [cs]He.
4 [ct]The strength of the King (LE)loves [cu]justice;
You have established [cv](LF)equity;
You have (LG)done [cw]justice and righteousness in Jacob.
5 (LH)Exalt Yahweh our God
And (LI)worship at the footstool of His feet;
(LJ)Holy is He.
6 (LK)Moses and Aaron were among His (LL)priests,
And (LM)Samuel was among those who (LN)called on His name;
They (LO)would call upon Yahweh and He would answer them.
7 He (LP)would speak to them in the pillar of cloud;
They (LQ)kept His testimonies
And the statute that He gave them.
8 O Yahweh our God, You (LR)answered them;
You were a (LS)forgiving God to them,
And yet an (LT)avenger of their evil deeds.
9 Exalt Yahweh our God
And worship at His holy mountain,
For holy is Yahweh our God.
Serve Yahweh with Gladness
A Psalm of [cx]Thanksgiving.
100 (LU)Make a loud shout to Yahweh, all the earth.
2 (LV)Serve Yahweh with gladness;
(LW)Come before Him with joyful songs.
3 Know that (LX)Yahweh, He is God;
It is He who has (LY)made us, and [cy]not we ourselves;
We are (LZ)His people and the sheep of His pasture.
4 Enter His gates (MA)with [cz]thanksgiving
And His courts with praise.
Give thanks to Him, (MB)bless His name.
5 For (MC)Yahweh is good;
(MD)His lovingkindness endures forever
And His (ME)faithfulness, generation unto generation.
Consider the Way of the Blameless
Of David. A Psalm.
101 I will (MF)sing of lovingkindness and [da]justice,
To You, O Yahweh, I will sing praises.
2 I will [db](MG)consider the way of the blameless.
When will You come to me?
I will walk within my house in the [dc](MH)integrity of my heart.
3 I will set no (MI)vile thing before my eyes;
I hate the [dd]work of those who (MJ)fall away;
It shall not cling to me.
4 A (MK)crooked heart shall depart from me;
I will know no evil.
5 Whoever secretly (ML)slanders his neighbor, him I will [de]destroy;
Whoever has a (MM)haughty look and an arrogant heart, I will not endure.
6 My eyes shall be upon the faithful of the land, that they may abide with me;
He who walks in the (MN)way of the blameless is the one who will minister to me.
7 He who (MO)practices deceit shall not dwell within my house;
He who speaks lies (MP)shall not be established before my eyes.
8 (MQ)Every morning I will [df](MR)destroy all the wicked of the land,
To (MS)cut off from the (MT)city of Yahweh all the workers of iniquity.
Do Not Hide Your Face from Me
A Prayer of the afflicted when he is faint and [dg]pours out his complaint before Yahweh.
102 (MU)O Yahweh, hear my prayer!
And let my cry for help (MV)come to You.
2 (MW)Do not hide Your face from me in the day of my distress;
(MX)Incline Your ear to me;
In the day when I call (MY)answer me quickly.
3 For my days (MZ)have [dh]vanished in smoke,
And my (NA)bones have been scorched like a hearth.
4 My heart (NB)has been stricken like [di]grass and it has (NC)dried up,
Indeed, I (ND)forget to eat my bread.
5 Because of the sound of my groaning
My (NE)bones [dj]cling to my flesh.
6 I resemble a (NF)pelican of the wilderness;
I have become like an owl of the waste places.
7 I (NG)lie awake,
I have become like a lonely bird on a roof.
8 My enemies (NH)have reproached me all day long;
Those who [dk](NI)ridicule me (NJ)swear against me.
9 For I have eaten ashes like bread
And (NK)mixed my drinks with weeping
10 (NL)Because of Your indignation and Your wrath,
For You have (NM)lifted me up and cast me away.
11 My days are like an (NN)outstretched shadow,
And as for me, I (NO)dry up like [dl]grass.
12 But You, O Yahweh, [dm](NP)abide forever,
And the (NQ)remembrance of Your name [dn]from generation to generation.
13 You will (NR)arise and have (NS)compassion on Zion—
For (NT)it is time to be gracious to it,
For the (NU)appointed time has come.
14 For Your slaves [do]find pleasure in its stones
And show grace to its dust—
15 [dp]So the [dq](NV)nations will fear the name of Yahweh
And (NW)all the kings of the earth Your glory.
16 For Yahweh has (NX)built up Zion;
He has (NY)appeared in His glory.
17 He has (NZ)turned toward the prayer of the [dr]destitute
And has not despised their prayer.
18 [ds]This will be (OA)written for the (OB)generation to come,
And (OC)a people yet to be created will praise Yah.
19 For He (OD)looked down from His holy height;
(OE)From heaven Yahweh gazed [dt]upon the earth,
20 To hear the (OF)groaning of the prisoner,
To (OG)set free [du]those who were doomed to death,
21 To (OH)recount the name of Yahweh in Zion
And His praise in Jerusalem,
22 When (OI)the peoples are gathered together,
And the kingdoms, to serve Yahweh.
23 He has afflicted my strength in the way;
He has (OJ)shortened my days.
24 I say, “O my God, (OK)do not take me away in the [dv]midst of my days,
Your (OL)years are from generation to all generations.
25 Of old You (OM)founded the earth,
And the (ON)heavens are the work of Your hands.
26 [dw]Even they will (OO)perish, but You will remain;
And all of them will wear out like a garment;
Like clothing You will change them and they will be changed.
27 But You are [dx](OP)the same,
And Your years will not come to an end.
28 The (OQ)children of Your slaves will dwell securely,
And their (OR)seed will be established before You.”
Bless Yahweh, O My Soul
Of David.
103 (OS)Bless Yahweh, O my soul,
And all that is within me, bless His (OT)holy name.
2 Bless Yahweh, O my soul,
And (OU)forget none of His benefits;
3 Who (OV)pardons all your iniquities,
Who (OW)heals all your diseases;
4 Who (OX)redeems your life from the pit,
Who (OY)crowns you with lovingkindness and compassion;
5 Who (OZ)satisfies your [dy]years with good things,
So that your youth is (PA)renewed like the eagle.
6 Yahweh (PB)performs righteous deeds
And judgments for all who are (PC)oppressed.
7 He (PD)made known His ways to Moses,
His (PE)acts to the sons of Israel.
8 Yahweh is (PF)compassionate and gracious,
(PG)Slow to anger and abounding in lovingkindness.
9 He (PH)will not always contend with us,
And He will not (PI)keep His anger forever.
10 He has (PJ)not dealt with us according to our sins,
And He has not rewarded us according to our iniquities.
11 For as high (PK)as the heavens are above the earth,
So great is His lovingkindness toward those who [dz]fear Him.
12 As far as the east is from the west,
So far has He (PL)removed our transgressions from us.
13 (PM)As a father has compassion on his children,
So Yahweh has compassion on those who [ea]fear Him.
14 For (PN)He Himself knows [eb]our form;
He (PO)remembers that we are but (PP)dust.
15 As for man, his days are (PQ)like grass;
As a (PR)flower of the field, so he flowers.
16 When the (PS)wind has passed over it, it is no more,
And its (PT)place acknowledges it no longer.
17 But the (PU)lovingkindness of Yahweh is from everlasting to everlasting on those who [ec]fear Him,
And His [ed]righteousness (PV)to children’s children,
18 To (PW)those who keep His covenant
And remember His precepts to do them.
19 Yahweh has established His (PX)throne in the heavens,
And His (PY)kingdom rules over [ee]all.
20 Bless Yahweh, you (PZ)His angels,
(QA)Mighty in strength, who (QB)perform His word,
(QC)Obeying the voice of His word!
21 Bless Yahweh, all you (QD)His hosts,
You (QE)who serve Him, doing His will.
22 Bless Yahweh, (QF)all you works of His,
In all places of His rule;
Bless Yahweh, O my soul!
The Glory of Yahweh Endures Forever
104 (QG)Bless Yahweh, O my soul!
O Yahweh my God, You are very great;
You are (QH)clothed with splendor and majesty,
2 Wrapping Yourself with (QI)light as with a cloak,
(QJ)Stretching out the heavens like a tent curtain.
3 [ef]He (QK)lays the beams of His upper chambers in the waters;
[eg]He sets up the (QL)clouds to be His chariot;
[eh]He walks upon the (QM)wings of the wind;
4 [ei]He makes His [ej]angels (QN)the winds,
His ministers flaming (QO)fire.
5 He (QP)founded the earth upon its place,
So that it will not [ek]shake forever and ever.
6 You (QQ)covered it with the deep as with a garment;
The waters were standing above the mountains.
7 At Your (QR)rebuke they fled,
At the (QS)sound of Your thunder they hurried away in alarm.
8 The mountains went up; the valleys went down
To the (QT)place which You founded for them.
9 You set a (QU)boundary that they may not pass over,
So that they will not return to cover the earth.
10 [el]He sends forth (QV)springs in the valleys;
They flow between the mountains;
11 They (QW)give water to every beast of the field;
The (QX)wild donkeys quench their thirst.
12 Above them the birds of the heavens (QY)dwell;
They give forth their voices among the branches.
13 [em]He (QZ)gives water to the mountains from His upper chambers;
(RA)The earth is satisfied with the fruit of His works.
14 [en]He causes the (RB)grass to grow for the [eo]cattle,
And (RC)vegetation for man’s [ep]cultivation,
To bring forth [eq]food (RD)from the earth,
15 And (RE)wine which makes man’s heart glad,
(RF)To make his face glisten more than oil,
And [er]food which (RG)sustains man’s heart.
16 The trees of Yahweh are satisfied,
The cedars of Lebanon which He planted,
17 Where the (RH)birds build their nests,
The (RI)stork’s home is in the [es]fir trees.
18 The high mountains are for the (RJ)wild goats;
The (RK)cliffs are a refuge for the [et](RL)shephanim.
19 He made the moon (RM)for the seasons;
The (RN)sun knows the place of its setting.
20 You (RO)appoint darkness so that it becomes night,
In which all the (RP)beasts of the forest (RQ)creep about.
21 The (RR)young lions roar to go after their prey
And to (RS)seek their food from God.
22 When the sun rises they gather together
And lie down in their (RT)dens.
23 Man goes forth to (RU)his work
And to his labor until evening.
24 How (RV)numerous are Your works, O Yahweh!
[eu]In (RW)wisdom You have made them all;
The (RX)earth is full of Your [ev]possessions.
25 This is the (RY)sea, great and [ew]broad,
There the creeping things are without number,
Creatures both small and great.
26 There the (RZ)ships move along,
And [ex](SA)Leviathan, which You have formed to play in it.
27 They all (SB)wait for You
To (SC)give them their food in [ey]due season.
28 You give to them, they gather it up;
You (SD)open Your hand, they are satisfied with good.
29 You (SE)hide Your face, they are dismayed;
You (SF)take away their [ez]spirit, they breathe their last
And (SG)return to their dust.
30 You send forth Your [fa](SH)Spirit, they are created;
And You renew the face of the ground.
31 Let the (SI)glory of Yahweh endure forever;
Let Yahweh (SJ)be glad in His works;
32 [fb]He (SK)looks at the earth, and it (SL)trembles;
He (SM)touches the mountains, and they smoke.
33 [fc]I will sing to Yahweh (SN)throughout my life;
[fd]I will (SO)sing praise to my God [fe]while I have my being.
34 Let my (SP)musing be pleasing to Him;
As for me, I shall (SQ)be glad in Yahweh.
35 Let sinners be (SR)consumed from the earth
And let the (SS)wicked be no more.
(ST)Bless Yahweh, O my soul.
[ff](SU)Praise Yah!
Remember His Wondrous Deeds
105 Oh (SV)give thanks to Yahweh, (SW)call upon His name;
(SX)Make known His acts among the peoples.
2 Sing to Him, (SY)sing praises to Him;
(SZ)Muse on all His wondrous deeds.
3 Boast in His holy name;
Let the (TA)heart of those who seek Yahweh be glad.
4 Inquire of Yahweh and (TB)His strength;
(TC)Seek His face continually.
5 Remember His (TD)wondrous deeds which He has done,
His miracles and the (TE)judgments [fg]uttered by His mouth,
6 O seed of (TF)Abraham, His servant,
O sons of (TG)Jacob, His (TH)chosen ones!
7 He is Yahweh our God;
His (TI)judgments are in all the earth.
8 He has (TJ)remembered His covenant forever,
The word which He commanded for a (TK)thousand generations,
9 (TL)Which He cut with Abraham,
And His (TM)oath to Isaac.
10 Then He (TN)confirmed it to Jacob for a statute,
To Israel as an everlasting covenant,
11 Saying, “(TO)To you I will give the land of Canaan
As the [fh](TP)portion of your inheritance,”
12 When they were only a (TQ)few men in number,
Of little account, and (TR)sojourners in it.
13 And they wandered about from nation to nation,
From one kingdom to another people.
14 He (TS)permitted no man to oppress them,
And He (TT)reproved kings for their sakes:
15 “(TU)Do not touch My anointed ones,
And to My prophets do no evil.”
16 And He (TV)called for a famine upon the land;
He (TW)broke the whole staff of bread.
17 He (TX)sent a man before them,
Joseph, who was (TY)sold as a slave.
18 They afflicted his (TZ)feet with fetters,
[fi]He himself was laid in irons;
19 Until the time that his (UA)word came to pass,
The word of Yahweh (UB)refined him.
20 The (UC)king sent and released him,
The ruler of peoples sent and set him free.
21 He (UD)set him up as lord of his house
And ruler over all his possessions,
22 To [fj]imprison his princes [fk](UE)at will,
And that he might teach his elders wisdom.
23 (UF)Then Israel came to Egypt;
And Jacob (UG)sojourned in the land of Ham.
24 And He (UH)caused His people to be very fruitful,
And He caused them to be stronger than their adversaries.
25 He (UI)turned their heart to hate His people,
To (UJ)deal craftily with His slaves.
26 He (UK)sent Moses His servant,
And (UL)Aaron, whom He had chosen.
27 They (UM)set forth the words of His signs among them,
And miracles in the land of Ham.
28 He (UN)sent darkness and made it dark;
And they did not (UO)rebel against His words.
29 He (UP)turned their waters into blood
And caused their fish to die.
30 Their land swarmed with (UQ)frogs
Even in the (UR)chambers of their kings.
31 He spoke, and there came a (US)swarm of flies
And (UT)gnats in all their territory.
32 He [fl]gave them (UU)hail for rain,
And flaming fire in their land.
33 He also (UV)struck down their vines and their fig trees,
And He shattered the trees of their territory.
34 He spoke, and (UW)locusts came,
And creeping locusts, without number,
35 And [fm]they ate up all vegetation in their land,
And [fn]they ate up the fruit of their ground.
36 He also (UX)struck down all the firstborn in their land,
The (UY)first of all their vigor.
37 Then He brought them out with (UZ)silver and gold,
And there was none among His tribes who stumbled.
38 Egypt was (VA)glad when they went out,
For the (VB)dread of them had fallen upon them.
39 He spread a (VC)cloud for a [fo]covering,
And (VD)fire to give light by night.
40 [fp]They (VE)asked, and He brought (VF)quail,
And He satisfied them with the [fq](VG)bread of heaven.
41 He opened the [fr]rock and (VH)water flowed out;
[fs]It ran in the dry places like a river.
42 For He (VI)remembered His holy word
With Abraham His servant;
43 And He brought His people out with joy,
His chosen ones with a shout of (VJ)joy.
44 He (VK)gave them also the lands of the [ft]nations,
That they (VL)might take possession of the fruit of the peoples’ labor,
45 So that they might (VM)keep His statutes
And observe His laws,
[fu]Praise Yah!
Remember Me, O Yahweh
106 [fv]Praise Yah!
Oh (VN)give thanks to Yahweh, for He (VO)is good;
For (VP)His lovingkindness endures forever.
2 Who can speak of the (VQ)mighty deeds of Yahweh,
Or can make all His praise to be heard?
3 How blessed are those who keep [fw]justice,
[fx]And he who (VR)does righteousness at all times!
4 Remember me, O Yahweh, in Your (VS)favor [fy]toward Your people;
Visit me with Your salvation,
5 That I may see the (VT)goodness of Your chosen ones,
That I may (VU)rejoice in the gladness of Your nation,
That I may (VV)boast with Your [fz]inheritance.
6 (VW)We have sinned (VX)with our fathers,
We have committed iniquity, we have acted wickedly.
7 Our fathers in Egypt did not consider Your wondrous deeds;
They (VY)did not remember Your abundant lovingkindnesses,
But they (VZ)rebelled by the sea, at the [ga]Red Sea.
8 Yet He saved them (WA)for the sake of His name,
That He might (WB)make His might known.
9 Thus He (WC)rebuked the [gb]Red Sea and it (WD)dried up,
And He (WE)led them through the deeps, as through the wilderness.
10 So He (WF)saved them from the [gc]hand of the one who hated them,
And (WG)redeemed them from the [gd]hand of the enemy.
11 (WH)The waters covered their adversaries;
Not one of them was left.
12 Then they (WI)believed His words;
They (WJ)sang His praise.
13 They quickly (WK)forgot His works;
They (WL)did not wait for His counsel,
14 But (WM)craved intensely in the wilderness,
And (WN)put God to the test in the wasteland.
15 So He (WO)gave them their request,
But (WP)sent a [ge]wasting disease against their lives.
16 Then they became (WQ)envious of Moses in the camp,
And of Aaron, the holy one of Yahweh,
17 The (WR)earth opened and swallowed up Dathan,
And covered up the [gf]company of Abiram.
18 And a (WS)fire burned up in their company;
The flame consumed the wicked.
19 They (WT)made a calf in Horeb
And worshiped a molten image.
20 Thus they (WU)exchanged their glory
For the image of an ox that eats grass.
21 They (WV)forgot God their Savior,
Who had done (WW)great things in Egypt,
22 (WX)Wondrous deeds in the land of Ham
And awesome things by the [gg]Red Sea.
23 Therefore (WY)He said that He would destroy them,
Had not (WZ)Moses His chosen one stood in the breach before Him,
To turn away His wrath from [gh]eradicating them.
24 Then they (XA)despised the (XB)pleasant land;
They (XC)did not believe in His word,
25 But (XD)grumbled in their tents;
They did not listen to the voice of Yahweh.
26 So He [gi](XE)swore to them
To make them fall in the wilderness,
27 And to (XF)make their seed fall among the nations
And to (XG)scatter them in the lands.
28 They then (XH)joined themselves to [gj]Baal-peor,
And ate (XI)sacrifices offered to the dead.
29 Thus they (XJ)provoked Him to anger with their actions,
And the plague broke out among them.
30 Then Phinehas (XK)stood up and interceded,
And so the (XL)plague was checked.
31 And it was (XM)counted to him for righteousness,
From generation to generation forever.
32 They also (XN)provoked Him to wrath at the waters of [gk]Meribah,
So that it (XO)went badly with Moses on their account;
33 Because they (XP)were rebellious against [gl]His Spirit,
He spoke rashly with his lips.
34 They (XQ)did not destroy the peoples,
As (XR)Yahweh commanded them,
35 But (XS)they mingled with the nations
And learned their works,
36 And (XT)served their idols,
(XU)Which became a snare to them.
37 They (XV)sacrificed their sons and their daughters to the (XW)demons,
38 And they shed (XX)innocent blood,
The blood of their (XY)sons and their daughters,
Whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan;
And the land was (XZ)polluted with the blood.
39 Thus they became (YA)unclean in their works,
And (YB)played the harlot in their actions.
40 So the (YC)anger of Yahweh was kindled against His people
And He (YD)abhorred His [gm](YE)inheritance.
41 Then (YF)He gave them into the hand of the [gn]nations,
And those who hated them ruled over them.
42 Their enemies (YG)oppressed them,
And they were subdued under their hand.
43 Many times He would (YH)deliver them;
But they were rebellious in their (YI)counsel,
And so they (YJ)sank down in their iniquity.
44 Nevertheless He looked upon their distress
When He (YK)heard their cry of lamentation;
45 And He (YL)remembered for them His covenant,
And [go](YM)relented (YN)according to the abundance of His lovingkindness.
46 He also made them (YO)objects of compassion
In the presence of all their captors.
47 (YP)Save us, O Yahweh our God,
And (YQ)gather us from among the nations,
To give thanks to Your holy name
And (YR)revel in Your praise.
48 (YS)Blessed be Yahweh, the God of Israel,
From everlasting to everlasting.
And let all the people say, “Amen.”
[gp]Praise Yah!
BOOK 5
Yahweh Saves in Times of Trouble
107 Oh (YT)give thanks to Yahweh, for (YU)He is good,
For His lovingkindness endures forever.
2 Let (YV)the redeemed of Yahweh say so,
Whom He has (YW)redeemed from the hand of the adversary
3 And (YX)gathered from the lands,
From the east and from the west,
From the north and from the [gq]south.
4 They (YY)wandered in the wilderness along the way of the wasteland;
They did not find an inhabited (YZ)city.
5 Hungry [gr]and thirsty,
Their (ZA)soul fainted within them.
6 Then they (ZB)cried out to Yahweh in their trouble;
He delivered them out of their distresses.
7 He led them by a [gs](ZC)straight way,
To go to (ZD)an inhabited city.
8 (ZE)Let them give thanks to Yahweh for His lovingkindness,
And for His wondrous deeds to the sons of men!
9 For He has (ZF)satisfied the [gt]thirsty soul,
And the (ZG)hungry soul He has filled with what is good.
10 There were those who (ZH)inhabited darkness and the shadow of death,
(ZI)Prisoners in affliction and irons,
11 Because they had (ZJ)rebelled against the words of God
And (ZK)spurned the (ZL)counsel of the Most High.
12 So He subdued their heart with labor;
They stumbled and there was (ZM)none to help.
13 Then they (ZN)cried out to Yahweh in their trouble;
He saved them out of their distresses.
14 He (ZO)brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death
And (ZP)broke their bands apart.
15 (ZQ)Let them give thanks to Yahweh for His lovingkindness,
And for His wondrous deeds to the sons of men!
16 For He has (ZR)shattered the doors of bronze
And cut through the bars of iron.
17 [gu]Ignorant fools, because of their way of transgression,
And (ZS)because of their iniquities, were afflicted.
18 Their (ZT)soul abhorred all kinds of food,
And they (ZU)reached the (ZV)gates of death.
19 Then they cried out to Yahweh in their trouble;
He saved them out of their distresses.
20 He (ZW)sent His word and (ZX)healed them,
And (ZY)provided them escape from their [gv]destructions.
21 (ZZ)Let them give thanks to Yahweh for His lovingkindness,
And for His wondrous deeds to the sons of men!
22 Let them also offer (AAA)sacrifices of thanksgiving,
And (AAB)recount His works with joyful singing.
23 Those who (AAC)go down to the sea in ships,
Who do business on many waters;
24 They have seen the works of Yahweh,
And His wondrous deeds in the deep.
25 He (AAD)spoke and set up a (AAE)stormy wind,
Which (AAF)raised up the waves [gw]of the sea.
26 They went up to the heavens, they went down to the depths;
Their soul (AAG)melted away in the [gx]calamity.
27 They staggered and (AAH)swayed like a drunken man,
And all their wisdom was swallowed up.
28 Then they cried to Yahweh in their trouble,
And He brought them out of their distresses.
29 He (AAI)caused the storm to stand still,
So that its waves were hushed.
30 Then they were glad because they were quiet,
So He led them to their desired haven.
31 (AAJ)Let them give thanks to Yahweh for His lovingkindness,
And for His (AAK)wondrous deeds to the sons of men!
32 Let them (AAL)exalt Him also (AAM)in the assembly of the people,
And (AAN)praise Him at the seat of the elders.
33 He [gy](AAO)makes rivers into a [gz]wilderness
And springs of water into a thirsty ground;
34 A (AAP)fruitful land into a (AAQ)salt waste,
Because of the evil of those who inhabited it.
35 He (AAR)makes a wilderness into a pool of water
And a dry land into springs of water;
36 And there He causes the hungry to inhabit,
So that they may establish (AAS)an inhabited city,
37 And sow fields and (AAT)plant vineyards,
And produce a fruitful harvest.
38 Also He blesses them and they (AAU)multiply greatly,
And He (AAV)does not let their cattle decrease.
39 But when they (AAW)decrease and are (AAX)bowed down
Through oppression, evil, and sorrow,
40 He (AAY)pours contempt upon nobles
And (AAZ)makes them wander (ABA)in a pathless void.
41 But He (ABB)sets the needy [ha]securely on high away from affliction,
And (ABC)makes his families like a flock.
42 The (ABD)upright see it and are glad;
But all (ABE)unrighteousness shuts its mouth.
43 Who is (ABF)wise? Let him keep these things,
And carefully consider the (ABG)lovingkindnesses of Yahweh.
He Will Tread Down Our Adversaries
A Song. A Psalm of David.
108 (ABH)My heart is set, O God;
I will sing, I will sing praises, even with my glory.
2 Awake, harp and lyre;
I will awaken the dawn!
3 I will give thanks to You, O Yahweh, among the peoples,
And I will sing praises to You among the nations.
4 For Your (ABI)lovingkindness is great (ABJ)above the heavens,
And Your truth reaches to the skies.
5 (ABK)Be exalted above the heavens, O God,
And Your glory above all the earth.
6 (ABL)That Your beloved may be rescued,
Save with Your right hand, and answer me!
7 God has spoken in His [hb]holiness:
“I will exult, I will portion out Shechem
And measure out the valley of Succoth.
8 Gilead is Mine, Manasseh is Mine;
Ephraim also is the [hc]helmet of My head;
(ABM)Judah is My [hd]scepter.
9 Moab is My washbowl;
Over Edom I shall throw My shoe;
Over Philistia I will make a loud shout.”
10 (ABN)Who will bring me into the well-defended city?
Who [he]will lead me to Edom?
11 Have You, O God, not (ABO)rejected us?
And will You, O God, not go forth with our armies?
12 Oh give us help against the adversary,
For (ABP)salvation [hf]by man is worthless.
13 [hg]Through God we shall do valiantly,
And (ABQ)it is He who will tread down our adversaries.
