Book of Common Prayer
Qoph
145 I called (A)with all my heart; answer me, O Yahweh!
I will (B)observe Your statutes.
146 I called to You; (C)save me
And I shall keep Your testimonies.
147 I [a](D)eagerly greet the dawn and cry for help;
I [b]wait for Your words.
148 My eyes [c]eagerly greet the (E)night watches,
That I may (F)muse on Your [d]word.
149 Hear my voice (G)according to Your lovingkindness;
(H)O Yahweh, revive me, according to Your judgments.
150 [e]Near are those who pursue wickedness;
They are far from Your law.
151 (I)Near are You, O Yahweh,
And all Your commandments are (J)truth.
152 Of old I have (K)known from Your testimonies
That You have founded them (L)forever.
Resh
153 (M)See my (N)affliction and rescue me,
For I do not (O)forget Your law.
154 (P)Plead my cause and (Q)redeem me;
Revive me according to Your [f]word.
155 Salvation is (R)far from the wicked,
For they (S)do not seek Your statutes.
156 (T)Many are Your [g]compassions, O Yahweh;
Revive me according to Your judgments.
157 Many are my (U)persecutors and my adversaries,
Yet I do not (V)turn aside from Your testimonies.
158 I see the (W)treacherous and (X)loathe them,
Those who do not keep Your [h]word.
159 See how I (Y)love Your precepts;
(Z)O Yahweh, revive me according to Your lovingkindness.
160 The (AA)sum of Your word is (AB)truth,
And every one of Your righteous judgments (AC)is everlasting.
Sin/Shin
161 (AD)Princes persecute me without cause,
But my heart (AE)is in dread of Your words.
162 I (AF)rejoice at Your [i]word,
As one who (AG)finds much spoil.
163 I (AH)hate and abhor lying,
But I (AI)love Your law.
164 Seven times a day I praise You,
Because of Your (AJ)righteous judgments.
165 Those who love Your law have (AK)much peace,
And [j](AL)nothing causes them to stumble.
166 I (AM)hope for Your salvation, O Yahweh,
And I do Your commandments.
167 My (AN)soul keeps Your testimonies,
And I (AO)love them exceedingly.
168 I (AP)keep Your precepts and Your testimonies,
For all my (AQ)ways are before You.
Tav
169 Let my (AR)cry of lamentation come near before You, O Yahweh;
(AS)Give me understanding (AT)according to Your word.
170 Let my (AU)supplication come before You;
(AV)Deliver me according to Your [k]word.
171 Let my (AW)lips pour forth praise,
For You (AX)teach me Your statutes.
172 Let my (AY)tongue answer with Your [l]word,
For all Your (AZ)commandments are righteous.
173 Let Your (BA)hand be [m]ready to help me,
For I have (BB)chosen Your precepts.
174 I (BC)long for Your salvation, O Yahweh,
And Your law is my (BD)delight.
175 Let my (BE)soul live that it may praise You,
And let Your judgments help me.
176 I have (BF)wandered off like a lost sheep; search for Your slave,
For I have (BG)not forgotten Your commandments.
Blessed Is Everyone Who Fears Yahweh
A Song of Ascents.
128 (A)How blessed is everyone who fears Yahweh,
Who (B)walks in His ways.
2 When you shall (C)eat of the [a](D)fruit of the labor of your hands,
How blessed will you be and (E)how well will it be for you.
3 Your wife shall be like a (F)fruitful vine
In the innermost parts of your house,
Your children like (G)olive plants
All around your table.
4 Behold, for thus shall the man be blessed
Who fears Yahweh.
5 (H)May Yahweh bless you (I)from Zion,
That you may see the prosperity of Jerusalem all the days of your life.
6 Indeed, may you see your (J)children’s children.
(K)Peace be upon Israel!
Yahweh Has Cut the Cords of the Wicked
A Song of Ascents.
129 “[b]Many times they have [c](L)assailed me from my (M)youth up,”
(N)Let Israel now say,
2 “[d]Many times they have [e]assailed me from my youth up;
Yet they have (O)not prevailed against me.
3 The plowers plowed upon my back;
They lengthened their furrows.”
4 Yahweh (P)is righteous;
He has cut up the (Q)cords of the wicked.
5 Let all who (R)hate Zion
Be (S)put to shame and turned backward;
6 Let them be like (T)grass upon the rooftops,
Which dries up before it [f]grows up;
7 With which the reaper does not fill his [g]hand,
Nor the binder of sheaves the (U)fold of his garment;
8 And those who pass by will not say,
“The (V)blessing of Yahweh be upon you;
We bless you in the name of Yahweh.”
Yahweh Will Redeem Israel
A Song of Ascents.
130 Out of the (W)depths I called to You, O Yahweh.
2 O Lord, (X)hear my voice!
Let (Y)Your ears be attentive
To the (Z)voice of my supplications.
3 If You should keep iniquities, O Yah,
O Lord, who could (AA)stand?
4 But with You there is (AB)forgiveness,
That You may be (AC)feared.
5 I hope for Yahweh, my (AD)soul does hope,
And (AE)for His word do I wait.
6 My soul waits for the Lord
More than the watchmen (AF)for the morning,
The watchmen for the morning.
7 O Israel, (AG)wait for Yahweh;
For with Yahweh there is (AH)lovingkindness,
And with Him is (AI)abundant redemption.
8 And it is He who will (AJ)redeem Israel
From all his iniquities.
Ruth Gleans in Boaz’ Field
2 Now Naomi had [a]a kinsman of her husband, a [b]mighty man of excellence, of the family of (A)Elimelech, whose name was Boaz. 2 And Ruth the Moabitess said to Naomi, “Please let me go to the field and (B)glean among the ears of grain after one whom I may find favor in his eyes.” And she said to her, “Go, my daughter.” 3 So she went. And she came and gleaned in the field after the reapers. And [c]it so happened that she happened to come to the portion of the field belonging to Boaz, who was of the family of Elimelech. 4 Now behold, Boaz came from Bethlehem and said to the reapers, “(C)May Yahweh be with you.” And they said to him, “May Yahweh bless you.” 5 Then Boaz said to his young man who was [d]in charge of the reapers, “Whose young woman is this?” 6 The young man [e]in charge of the reapers replied, “She is the young Moabite woman who returned with Naomi from the fields of Moab. 7 And she said, ‘Please let me glean and gather after the reapers among the sheaves.’ Thus she came and has remained from the morning until now; she has been sitting in the house for a little while.”
8 Then Boaz said to Ruth, “Have you not heard, my daughter? Do not go to glean in another field; furthermore, do not go on from this one, but [f]stay here with my young women. 9 Let your eyes be on the field which they reap, and go after them. Indeed, I have commanded the young men not to touch you. And if you are thirsty, go to the [g]water jars and drink from what the young men draw.” 10 Then she (D)fell on her face, bowing to the ground and said to him, “Why have I found favor in your sight that you should take notice of me, though I am a foreigner?” 11 Boaz replied to her, “All that you have done for your mother-in-law after the death of your husband has been fully told to me, and how you forsook your father and your mother and the land of your birth, and came to a people that you did not previously know. 12 (E)May Yahweh fully repay your work, and may your wages be full from Yahweh, the God of Israel, (F)under whose wings you have come to seek refuge.” 13 Then she said, “May I find favor in your eyes, my lord, for you have comforted me and indeed have spoken to the heart of your servant-woman, though I am not like one of your servant-women.”
23 But (A)I call God as witness [a]to my soul, that (B)to spare you I did not come again to (C)Corinth. 24 Not that we (D)lord it over your faith, but are workers with you for your joy; for in your faith you are (E)standing firm.
2 But I determined this [b]for my own sake, that I (F)would not come to you again in sorrow. 2 For if I (G)cause you sorrow, who then makes me glad but the one whom I made sorrowful? 3 And this is the very thing I (H)wrote you, so that (I)when I came, I would not have sorrow from those who ought to make me rejoice; having (J)confidence in you all that my joy would be the joy of you all. 4 For out of much affliction and anguish of heart I (K)wrote to you with many tears; not so that you would be made sorrowful, but that you might know the love which I have abundantly for you.
Forgive and Love the Sinner
5 But (L)if any has caused sorrow, he has caused sorrow not to me, but in some degree—[c]in order not to say too much—to all of you. 6 Sufficient for such a one is (M)this punishment which was inflicted by the majority, 7 so that on the contrary you should rather (N)graciously forgive and comfort him, lest such a one be swallowed up by excessive sorrow. 8 Therefore I encourage you to reaffirm your love for him. 9 For to this end also (O)I wrote, so that I might (P)know your proven character, whether you are (Q)obedient in all things. 10 But one whom you graciously forgive anything, I graciously forgive also. For indeed what I have graciously forgiven, if I have graciously forgiven anything, I did it for your sakes (R)in the presence of Christ, 11 so that no advantage would be taken of us by (S)Satan, for (T)we are not ignorant of his schemes.
12 Now when I came to (U)Troas for the (V)gospel of Christ and when a (W)door was opened for me in the Lord, 13 I (X)had no rest for my spirit, not finding (Y)Titus my brother. But (Z)saying farewell to them, I went on to (AA)Macedonia.
14 (AB)But thanks be to God, who always (AC)leads us in triumphal procession in Christ, and manifests through us the (AD)aroma of the (AE)knowledge of Him in every place. 15 For we are a (AF)fragrance of Christ to God among (AG)those who are being saved and among those who are perishing; 16 (AH)to the one an aroma from death to death, to the other an aroma from life to life. And who is (AI)sufficient for these things? 17 For we are not like many, [d](AJ)peddling the word of God, but (AK)as from sincerity, but as from God, (AL)in the sight of God, we speak in Christ.
Personal Relationships
21 “(A)You have heard that [a]the ancients were told, ‘(B)You shall not murder’ and ‘Whoever murders shall be guilty before (C)the court.’ 22 But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother shall be guilty before (D)the court; and whoever says to his brother, ‘[b]Raca,’ shall be guilty before the [c](E)Sanhedrin; and whoever says, ‘You fool,’ shall be guilty enough to go into the [d](F)fiery hell. 23 Therefore if you are (G)presenting your [e]offering at the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, 24 leave your [f]offering there before the altar and go; first be (H)reconciled to your brother, and then come and present your [g]offering. 25 (I)Make friends quickly with your opponent at law while you are with him on the way, so that your opponent may not hand you over to the judge, and the judge to the officer, and you be thrown into prison. 26 Truly I say to you, (J)you will not come out of there until you have paid up the last [h]quadrans.
