Psalm 88

88 1 A grievous complaint of the faithful, sore afflicted by sickness, persecutions and adversity, 7 Being as it were left of God without any consolation. 13 Yet he calleth on God by faith, and striveth against desperation. 18 Complaining himself to be forsaken of all earthly help.

A song or Psalm of (A)Heman the Ezrahite to give instruction, committed to the sons of Korah for him that excelleth upon Mahalath [a]Leannoth.

O Lord God of my salvation, I cry day and night [b]before thee.

Let my prayer enter into thy presence: incline thine ear unto my cry.

For my soul is filled with evils, and my life draweth near to the grave.

I am counted among them that go down unto the pit, and am as a man without strength,

[c]Free among the dead, like the slain laying in the grave, when thou rememberest no more, and they are cut off from thy [d]hand.

Thou hast laid me in the lowest pit, in darkness, and in the deep.

Thine indignation lieth upon me, and thou hast vexed me with all thy [e]waves. Selah.

Thou hast put away mine [f]acquaintance far from me, and made me to be abhorred of them: [g]I am shut up, and cannot get forth.

[h]Mine eye is sorrowful through mine affliction: Lord, I call daily upon thee: I stretch out mine hands unto thee.

10 Wilt thou show [i]a miracle to the dead? or shall the dead rise and praise thee? Selah.

11 Shall thy loving kindness be declared in the grave? or thy faithfulness in destruction?

12 Shall thy wondrous works be known in the dark? and thy righteousness in the land [j]of oblivion?

13 But unto thee, have I cried, O Lord, and early shall my prayer come before thee.

14 Lord, why dost thou reject my soul, and hidest thy face from me?

15 I am afflicted and at the point of death: [k]from my youth I suffer thy terrors, doubting of my life.

16 Thine indignations go over me, and thy fear hath cut me off.

17 They came round about me daily like water, and compassed me together.

18 My lovers and friends hast thou put away from me, and mine acquaintance [l]hid themselves.

Psalm 91-92

91 1 Here is described in what assurance he liveth, that putteth his whole trust in God, and commiteth himself wholly to his protection in all temptations. 14 A promise of God to those that love him, know him, and trust in him to deliver them, and give them immortal glory.

Who so dwelleth in the [a]secret of the most High, shall abide in the shadow of the Almighty.

[b]I will say unto the Lord, O my hope, and my fortress: he is my God, in him will I trust.

Surely I will deliver thee from the [c]snare of the hunter, and from the noisome pestilence.

He will cover thee under his wings, and thou shalt be sure under his feathers: his [d]truth shall be thy shield and buckler.

[e]Thou shalt not be afraid of the fear of the night: nor of the arrow that flieth by day:

Nor of the pestilence that walketh in the darkness: nor of the plague that destroyeth at noon day.

A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand, but it shall not come near thee.

Doubtless with thine [f]eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.

For thou hast said, The Lord is mine hope: thou hast set the most High for thy refuge.

10 There shall none evil come unto thee, neither shall any plague come near thy tabernacle.

11 [g]For he shall give his Angels charge over thee to keep thee in all thy ways.

12 They shall bear thee in their hands, that thou hurt not thy foot against a stone.

13 Thou shalt walk upon the lion and asp: the [h]young lion, and the dragon shalt thou tread under feet.

14 [i]Because he hath loved me, therefore will I deliver him: I will exalt him because he hath known my Name.

15 He shall call upon me, and I will hear him: I will be with him in trouble: I will deliver him, and glorify him.

16 With [j]long life will I satisfy him, and show him my salvation.

92 1 This Psalm was made to be sung on the Sabbath, to stir up the people to acknowledge God, and to praise him in his works: the Prophet rejoiceth therein. 6 But the wicked is not able to consider, that the ungodly, when he is most flourishing, shall most speedily perish. 12 In the end is described the felicity of the just, planted in the house of God to praise the Lord.

A Psalm or song for the [k]Sabbath day.

It is a good thing to praise the Lord, and to sing unto thy Name, O most High,

To declare thy loving kindness in the [l]morning, and thy truth in the night,

Upon an [m]instrument of ten strings, and upon the viol, with the song upon the harp.

For thou Lord, hast made me glad by thy [n]works, and I will rejoice in the works of thine hands.

O Lord, how glorious are thy works! and thy thoughts are very deep.

An [o]unwise man knoweth it not, and a fool doth not understand this,

(When the wicked grow as the grass, and all the workers of wickedness do flourish) that they shall be destroyed forever.

But thou, O Lord, art [p]most High forevermore.

For lo, thine enemies, O Lord: for lo, thine enemies shall perish: all the workers of iniquity shall be destroyed.

10 [q]But thou shalt exalt mine horn, like the unicorns, and I shall be anointed with fresh oil.

11 Mine eye also shall see my desire against mine enemies: and mine ears shall hear my wish against the wicked, that rise up against me.

12 The righteous shall [r]flourish like a palm tree, and shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon.

13 Such as be planted in the house of the Lord, shall flourish in the courts of our God.

14 They shall still bring forth fruit in their [s]age: they shall be fat and flourishing,

15 To declare that the Lord my rock is righteous, and that none iniquity is in him.

2 Kings 9:17-37

17 And the watchman that stood in the tower in Jezreel spied the company of Jehu as he came, and said, I see a company. And Jehoram said, Take a horseman and send to meet them, that he may say, Is it peace?

18 So there went one on horseback to meet him, and said, Thus saith the King, Is it peace? And Jehu said, What hast thou to do with peace? [a]turn behind me. And the watchman told, saying, The messenger came to them, but he cometh not again.

19 Then he sent out another on horseback, which came to them, and said, Thus saith the king, Is it peace? And Jehu answered, What hast thou to do with peace? turn behind me.

20 And the watchman told, saying, He came to them also, but cometh not again, and the marching is like the marching of Jehu the son of Nimshi: for he marcheth [b]furiously.

21 ¶ Then Jehoram said, Make ready: and his chariot was made ready. And Jehoram king of Israel, and Ahaziah king of Judah went out either of them in his chariot against Jehu, and met him in the field of Naboth the Jezreelite.

22 And when Jehoram saw Jehu, he said, Is it peace, Jehu? And he answered, What [c]peace? whiles the whoredomes of thy mother Jezebel, and her witchcrafts are yet in great number?

23 Then Jehoram turned his hand, and fled, and said to Ahaziah, O Ahaziah, there is treason.

24 But Jehu took a bow in his hand, and smote Jehoram between the shoulders, that the arrow went through his heart: and he fell down in his chariot.

25 Then said Jehu to Bidkar a captain, Take, and cast him in some place of the field of Naboth the Jezreelite: for I remember that when I and thou rode together after Ahab his father, the Lord [d]laid this burden upon him.

26 (A)Surely I have seen yesterday the blood of Naboth, and the blood of his [e]sons, said the Lord, and I will render it thee in this field, saith the Lord: now therefore take and cast him in the field according to the word of the Lord.

27 But when Ahaziah the king of Judah saw this, he fled by the way of the garden house: And Jehu pursued after him, and said, Smite him also in the chariot: and they smote him in the going up to Gur, which is by Ibleam. And he fled to [f]Megiddo, and there died.

28 And his servants carried him in a chariot to Jerusalem, and buried him in his sepulcher with his fathers in the city of David.

29 ¶ And in the [g]eleventh year of Joram the son of Ahab, began Ahaziah to reign over Judah.

30 And when Jehu was come to Jezreel, Jezebel heard of it, and painted her face, and tired her head, and [h]looked out at a window.

31 And as Jehu entered at the gate, she said, Had [i]Zimri peace, which slew his master?

32 And he lift up his eyes to the window, and said, Who is on my side, who? Then two or three of her [j]Eunuchs looked unto him.

33 And he said, Cast her down: and they cast her down, [k]and he sprinkled of her blood upon the wall, and upon the horses, and he trode her under foot.

34 And when he was come in, he did eat and drink, and said, Visit now yonder cursed woman, and bury her: for she is a [l]King’s daughter.

35 And they went to bury her, but they found no more of her, than the skull and the feet, and the palms of her hands.

36 Wherefore they came again and told him. And he said, This is the word of the Lord, which he spake [m]by his servant Elijah the Tishbite, saying, (B)In the field of Jezreel shall the dogs eat the flesh of Jezebel.

37 And the carcass of Jezebel shall be as dung upon the ground in the field of Jezreel, so that none shall say, [n]This is Jezebel.

1 Corinthians 7:1-9

Entreating here of marriage, 4 which is a remedy against fornication, 10 and may not be broken,  18, 20 he willeth every man to live contented with his lot.  25 He showeth what the end of virginity should be, 35 and who ought to marry.

Now [a]concerning the things [b]whereof ye wrote unto me, It were [c]good for a man not to touch a woman.

Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his wife, and let every woman have her own husband.

(A)[d]Let the husband give unto the wife [e]due benevolence, and likewise also the wife unto the husband.

[f]The wife hath not the power of her own body, but the husband: and likewise also the husband hath not the power of his own body, but the wife.

Defraud not one another, [g]except it be with consent for a time, that ye may [h]give yourselves to fasting and prayer, and again come together, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency.

[i]But I speak this by permission, not by commandment.

For I [j]would that all men were even as I myself am: but every man hath his proper gift of God, one after this manner, and another after that.

[k]Therefore I say unto the [l]unmarried, and unto the widows, It is good for them if they abide even as I do.

But if they cannot abstain, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to [m]burn.

Matthew 6:7-15

Also when ye pray, use no [a]vain repetitions as the Heathen: for they think to be heard for their much babbling.

Be ye not like them therefore: for your Father knoweth whereof ye have need, before ye ask of him.

[b]After this manner therefore pray ye, (A)Our father which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done even in earth as it is in heaven.

11 Give us this day our [c]daily bread.

12 And forgive us our debts, as we also forgive our debtors.

13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us (B)from [d]evil: for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory for ever. Amen.

14 (C)[e]For if ye do forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.

15 But if ye do not forgive men their trespasses, no more will your father forgive you your trespasses.
