Psalm 38

38 1 David lying sick of some grievous disease, acknowledgeth himself to be chastised of the Lord for his sins, and therefore prayeth God to turn away his wrath. 5 He uttereth the greatness of his grief by many words and circumstances, as wounded with the arrows of God’s ire, forsaken of his friends, evil intreated of his enemies. 22 But in the end with firm confidence he commendeth his cause to God, and hopeth for speedy help at his hand.

A Psalm of David for [a]remembrance.

O Lord, rebuke me not in thine [b]anger, neither chastise me in thy wrath.

For thine [c]arrows have light upon me, and thine hand lieth upon me.

There is nothing sound in my flesh, because of thine anger: neither is there rest in my bones, because of my [d]sin.

For mine [e]iniquities are gone over mine head, and as a weighty burden they are too heavy for me.

My wounds are putrefied, and corrupt because of [f]my foolishness.

I am bowed, and crooked very sore: I go [g]mourning all the day.

For my reins are full of burning, and there is nothing sound in my flesh.

I am weakened and sore broken: I [h]roar for the very grief of mine heart.

Lord, I pour my whole desire before thee, and my sighing is not hid from thee.

10 Mine heart [i]panteth: my strength faileth me, and the light of mine eyes, even [j]they are not mine own.

11 My lovers and my friends stand aside from my plague, and my [k]kinsmen stand afar off.

12 They also that seek after my life, lay snares, and they that go about to do me evil, talk wicked things and imagine deceit continually.

13 But I as a [l]deaf man heard not, and am as a dumb man, which openeth not his mouth.

14 Thus am I as a man, that heareth not, and in whose mouth are no reproofs.

15 For on thee, O Lord, do I wait: thou wilt hear me, my Lord, my God.

16 For I said, Hear me, lest they rejoice over me: for [m]when my foot slippeth, they extol themselves against me.

17 Surely I am ready to [n]halt, and my sorrow is ever before me.

18 When I declare my pain, and am sorry for my sin,

19 Then mine [o]enemies are alive, and are mighty, and they that hate me wrongfully are many.

20 They also, that reward evil for good, are mine adversaries, because I follow [p]goodness.

21 Forsake me not, O Lord, be not thou far from me, my God.

22 Haste thee, to help me, O my Lord, my [q]salvation.

Psalm 119:25-48

DALETH

25 My soul cleaveth to the [a]dust: quicken me according to thy word.

26 I have [b]declared my ways, and thou heardest me: teach me thy statutes.

27 Make me to understand the way of thy precepts, and I will meditate in thy wondrous works.

28 My soul melteth for heaviness: raise me up according to thy [c]word.

29 Take from me the [d]way of lying, and grant me graciously thy Law.

30 I have chosen the way of truth, and thy judgments have I laid before me.

31 I have cleaved to thy testimonies, O Lord: confound me not.

32 I will run the way of thy commandments, when thou [e]shalt enlarge mine heart.

HE

33 Teach [f]me, O Lord, the way of thy statutes, and I will keep it unto the end.

34 Give me understanding and I will keep thy Law, yea, I will keep it with my whole [g]heart.

35 Direct me in the path of thy commandments: for therein is my delight.

36 Incline mine heart unto thy testimonies: and not to [h]covetousness.

37 Turn away mine [i]eyes from regarding vanity, and quicken me in thy way.

38 Stablish thy promise to thy servant, because he feareth thee.

39 Take away [j]my rebuke that I fear: for thy judgments are good.

40 Behold, I desire thy commandments: [k]quicken me in thy righteousness.

VAU

41 And let thy loving [l]kindness come unto me, O Lord, and thy salvation according to thy promise.

42 So shall I [m]make answer unto my blasphemers: for I trust in thy word.

43 And take not the word of truth utterly out of my mouth: for I wait for thy judgments.

44 So shall I always keep thy Law forever and ever.

45 And I will [n]walk at liberty: for I seek thy precepts.

46 I will speak also of thy testimonies before [o]Kings, and will not be ashamed.

47 And my delight shall be in thy Commandments, which I have loved.

48 Mine hands also will I lift up unto thy Commandments, which I have loved, and I will meditate in thy statutes.

1 Kings 9:24-10:13

24 ¶ And Pharaoh’s daughter came up from the city of David unto the house which Solomon had built for her: then did he build Millo.

25 And thrice a year did Solomon offer burnt offerings and peace offerings upon the altar which he built unto the Lord: and he burnt incense upon the altar that was before the Lord, when he had finished the house.

26 Also king Solomon made a navy of ships in Ezion Geber, which is beside Elath, and the brink of the red sea, in the land of Edom.

27 And Hiram sent with the navy, his servants, that were mariners, and had knowledge of the sea, with the servants of Solomon.

28 And they came to Ophir, and fet from thence [a]four hundred and twenty talents of gold, and brought it to king Solomon.

10 1 The Queen of Sheba cometh to hear the wisdom of Solomon. 18 His royal throne. 23 His power and magnificence.

And the (A)Queen of [b]Sheba hearing the fame of Solomon (concerning the Name of the Lord) came to prove him with hard questions.

And she came to Jerusalem with a very great train, and camels that bare sweet odors, and gold exceeding much, and precious stones: and she came to Solomon, and communed with him of all that was in her heart.

And Solomon declared unto her all her questions: nothing was hid from the king, which he expounded not unto her.

Then the Queen of Sheba saw all Solomon’s wisdom, and the house that he had built,

And the [c]meat of his table, and the sitting of his servants, and the order of his ministers, and their apparel, and his drinking vessels, and his burnt offerings, that he offered in the house of the Lord, and [d]she was greatly astonied.

And she said unto the King, It was a true word that I heard in mine own land of thy sayings, and of thy wisdom.

Howbeit I believed not this report, till I came, and had seen it with mine eyes: but lo, the one half was not told me: for thou hast more wisdom and prosperity, than I have heard by report.

Happy are thy men, happy are these thy servants, which stand ever before thee, and hear thy [e]wisdom.

Blessed be the Lord thy God, which [f]loved thee, to set thee on the throne of Israel, because the Lord loved Israel forever, and made thee king to do [g]equity and righteousness.

10 And she gave the king sixscore talents of gold, and of sweet odors exceeding much, and precious stones. There came no more such abundance of sweet odors, as the queen of Sheba gave to king Solomon.

11 The navy also of Hiram (that carried gold from Ophir) brought likewise great plenty of (B)Almuggim trees from Ophir, and precious stones.

12 And the king made of the Almuggim trees pillars for the house of the Lord, and for the king’s palace, and made harps and psalteries for singers. There came no more such Almuggim trees, nor were any more seen unto this day.

13 And King Solomon gave unto the Queen of Sheba, whatsoever she would ask, besides that, which Solomon gave her of his [h]kingly liberality: so she returned and went to her own country, both she and her servants.

James 3:1-12

2 To show that a Christian man must govern his tongue with the bridle of faith and charity, 6 he declareth the commodities and mischiefs that ensue thereof: 15 and how much man’s wisdom 17 differeth from heavenly.

My [a]brethren, be not many masters, [b]knowing that we [c]shall receive the greater condemnation.

For in many things we [d]sin all. [e]If any man sin not in word, he is a perfect man, and able to bridle all the body.

[f]Behold, we put bits into the horses’ mouths, that they should obey us, and we turn about all their body.

Behold also the ships, which though they be so great, and are driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small rudder, whithersoever the governor listeth.

Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth of great things: [g]behold, how great a thing a little fire kindleth.

And the tongue is fire, yea, a [h]world of wickedness: so is the tongue set among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and [i]setteth on fire the course of nature, and it is set on fire of hell.

For the whole nature of beasts, and of birds, and of creeping things, and things of the sea is tamed, and hath been tamed of the nature of man.

But the tongue can no man tame. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.

[j]Therewith bless we God even the Father, and therewith curse we men, which are made after the [k]similitude of God.

10 [l]Out of one mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing: my brethren, these things ought not so to be.

11 Doth a fountain send forth at one place sweet water and bitter?

12 Can the fig tree, my brethren, bring forth olives, either a vine figs? so can no fountain make both salt water and sweet.

Mark 15:1-11

15 1 Of the things Christ suffered under Pilate. 11 Barabbas is preferred before Christ. 15 Pilate delivereth Christ to be crucified. 17 He is crowned with thorns. 19 They spit on him, and mock him. 21 Simon of Cyrene carrieth Christ’s cross. 27 Christ is crucified between two thieves. 26 He is railed at. 37 He giveth up the ghost. 43 Joseph burieth him.

And (A)[a]anon in the dawning, the high Priests held a Council with the Elders, and the Scribes, and the whole Council, and bound Jesus, and led him away, and [b]delivered him to Pilate.

Then Pilate asked him, Art thou the King of the Jews? And he answered, and said unto him, Thou sayest it.

And the high Priests accused him of many things.

(B)Wherefore Pilate asked him again, saying, Answered thou nothing? behold how many things they witness against thee.

But Jesus answered no more at all, so that Pilate marveled.

Now at the feast, Pilate [c]did deliver a prisoner unto them, whomsoever they would desire.

Then there was one named Barabbas, which was bound with his fellows, that had made insurrection, who in the insurrection had committed murder.

And the people cried aloud, and began to desire that he would do as he had ever done unto them.

Then Pilate answered them, and said, Will ye that I let loose unto you the King of the Jews?

10 For he knew that the high Priests had delivered him of envy.

11 But the high Priests had moved the people to desire that he would rather deliver Barabbas unto them.
