Book of Common Prayer
VAU
41 And let thy loving [a]kindness come unto me, O Lord, and thy salvation according to thy promise.
42 So shall I [b]make answer unto my blasphemers: for I trust in thy word.
43 And take not the word of truth utterly out of my mouth: for I wait for thy judgments.
44 So shall I always keep thy Law forever and ever.
45 And I will [c]walk at liberty: for I seek thy precepts.
46 I will speak also of thy testimonies before [d]Kings, and will not be ashamed.
47 And my delight shall be in thy Commandments, which I have loved.
48 Mine hands also will I lift up unto thy Commandments, which I have loved, and I will meditate in thy statutes.
ZAIN
49 Remember [e]the promise made to thy servant, wherein thou hast caused me to trust.
50 It is my comfort in my trouble; for thy promise hath quickened me.
51 The [f]proud have had me exceedingly in derision: yet have I not declined from thy Law.
52 I remembered thy [g]judgments of old, O Lord, and have been comforted.
53 [h]Fear is come upon me for the wicked, that forsake thy Law.
54 Thy statutes have been my songs in the house of my [i]pilgrimage.
55 I have remembered thy Name, O Lord, in the [j]night, and have kept thy Law.
56 [k]This I had because I kept thy precepts.
CHETH
57 O Lord, that art my [l]portion, I have determined to keep thy words.
58 I made my supplication in thy presence with my whole heart: be merciful unto me according to thy promise.
59 I have considered my [m]ways, and turned my feet into thy testimonies.
60 I made haste and delayed not to keep thy commandments.
61 The bands of the wicked have [n]robbed me: but I have not forgotten thy Law.
62 At midnight will I rise to give thanks unto thee, because of thy righteous judgments.
63 I am [o]companion of all them that fear thee, and keep thy precepts.
64 The earth, O Lord, is full of thy mercy: [p]teach me thy statutes.
11 For the Lord spake thus to me, in taking [a]of mine hand, and taught me, that I should not walk in the way of this people, saying,
12 Say ye not, A [b]confederacy, to all them to whom this people saith a confederacy, neither fear you [c]their fear, nor be afraid of them.
13 [d]Sanctify the Lord of hosts, and let him be your fear, and let him be your dread,
14 And he shall be as a [e]Sanctuary: but as a stumbling stone, and as a rock to fall upon, to both the houses of Israel, and as a snare and as a net to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
15 And many among them shall stumble, and shall fall, and shall be broken, and shall be snared, and shall be taken,
16 [f]Bind up the testimony: seal up the Law among my disciples.
17 Therefore I will wait upon the Lord that hath hid his face from the house of Jacob, and I will look for him.
18 Behold, I and the [g]children whom the Lord hath given me, are as signs and as wonders in Israel, [h]by the Lord of hosts, which dwelleth in Mount Zion.
19 And when they shall say unto you, Inquire at them that have a spirit of divination, and at the soothsayers which whisper and murmur, [i]Should not a people inquire at their God? from the [j]living to the dead?
20 To the [k]Law, and to the testimony, if they speak not according to this word: it is because there is no [l]light in them.
10 1 He handleth the effects of election, 3 that some refuse, and some embrace. 4 Christ, who is the end of the Law. 15 He showeth that Moses foretold the calling of the Gentiles, 20 and Isaiah the hardening of the Jews.
1 Brethren, [a]mine hearts desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved.
2 For I bear them record that they have the zeal of God, but not according to knowledge.
3 [b]For they, [c]being ignorant of the righteousness of God, and going about to [d]establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves to the righteousness of God.
4 (A)[e]For Christ is the [f]end of the Law for righteousness unto [g]everyone that believeth.
5 [h]For Moses thus describeth the righteousness which is of the Law, (B)That the man which doeth these things, shall live thereby.
6 But the righteousness which is of faith, speaketh on this wise, (C)[i]Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is to bring Christ from above.)
7 Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is to bring Christ again from the dead.)
8 [j]But what saith it? (D)The [k]word is near thee, even in thy mouth, and in thine heart. This is the word of faith which we preach.
9 [l]For if thou shalt [m]confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart, that [n]God raised him up from the dead, thou shalt be saved:
10 For with the heart man [o]believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth man confesseth to salvation.
11 [p]For the Scripture saith, (E)Whosoever [q]believeth in him, shall not be ashamed.
12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Grecian: for he that is Lord over all, is rich unto all that call on him.
13 (F)[r]For whosoever shall call upon the Name of the Lord, shall be saved.
14 But how shall they call on him, in whom they have not believed? [s]and how shall they believe in him, of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?
15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, (G)How beautiful are the feet of them which bring glad tidings of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!
19 1 To the intent he might move the faithful to deeper consideration of God’s glory, he setteth before their eyes the most exquisite workmanship of the heavens, with their proportion, and ornaments. 8 And afterward calleth them to the Law, wherein God hath revealed himself more familiarly to his chosen people. The which peculiar grace by commending the Law, he setteth forth more at large.
To him that excelleth. A Psalm of David.
1 The (A)[a]heavens declare the glory of God, and the firmament showeth the work of his hands.
2 [b]Day unto day uttereth the same, and night unto night teacheth knowledge.
3 There is no speech nor [c]language, where their voice is not heard.
4 Their [d]line is gone forth through all the earth, and their words into the ends of the world: in them hath he set a tabernacle for the Sun.
5 Which cometh forth as a bridegroom out of his [e]chamber, and rejoiceth like a mighty man to run his race.
6 His going out is from the end of the heaven, and his compass is unto the ends of the same, and none is hid from the heat thereof.
7 The [f]Law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, and giveth wisdom unto the simple.
8 The statutes of the Lord are right, and rejoice the heart, the commandment of the Lord is pure, and giveth light unto the eyes.
9 The fear of the Lord is clean, and endureth forever: the judgments of the Lord are [g]truth: they are righteous [h]altogether,
10 And more to be [i]desired than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey, and the honeycomb.
11 Moreover by them is thy servant made circumspect, and in keeping of them there is great [j]reward.
12 Who can understand his [k]faults? cleanse me from secret faults.
13 Keep thy servant also from [l]presumptuous sins: let them not reign over me: [m]so shall I be upright, and made clean from much wickedness.
14 Let the words of my mouth, and the [n]meditation of mine heart be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord my strength, and my redeemer.
112 1 He praiseth the felicity of them that fear God, 10 and condemneth the cursed state of the contemners of God.
Praise ye the Lord.
1 Blessed is the man that [a]feareth the Lord, and delighteth greatly in his commandments.
2 His seed shall be mighty upon earth: the generation of the righteous shall be blessed.
3 [b]Riches and treasures shall be in his house, and his righteousness endureth forever.
4 Unto the [c]righteous ariseth light in darkness: he is merciful and full of compassion and righteous.
5 A good man is merciful, and [d]lendeth, and will measure his affairs by judgment.
6 Surely he shall never be moved: but the righteous shall be had in everlasting remembrance.
7 He will not be afraid of evil tidings: for his heart is fixed, and believeth in the Lord.
8 His heart is established: therefore he will not fear, until he see his desire upon his enemies.
9 He hath [e]distributed and given to the poor: his righteousness remaineth forever: his [f]horn shall be exalted with glory.
10 The wicked shall see it, and be angry: he shall gnash with his teeth, and [g]consume away: the desire of the wicked shall perish.
44 ¶ [a]Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a treasure hid in the field, which when a man hath found, he hideth it, and for joy thereof departeth, and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.
45 ¶ Again, the kingdom of heaven is like to a merchant man that seeketh good pearls,
46 Who having found a pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had and bought it.
47 ¶ [b]Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a draw net cast into the sea, that gathereth of all kinds of things.
48 Which, when it is full, men draw to land, and sit and gather the good into vessels, and cast the bad away.
49 So shall it be at the end of the world. The Angels shall go forth, and sever the bad from among the just,
50 And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.
51 ¶ [c]Jesus said unto them, Understand ye all these things? They said unto him, Yea, Lord.
52 Then said he unto them, Therefore every Scribe which is taught unto the kingdom of heaven, is like unto an householder, which bringeth forth out of his treasure things both new and old.
