Let us not be desirous of vainglory, provoking one another and envying one another.
Let us not become vainglorious, provoking one another, envying one another.
We must not become conceited, challenging or provoking one another, envying one another.
Let us not become vainglorious and self-conceited, competitive and challenging and provoking and irritating to one another, envying and being jealous of one another.
Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.
Let’s not become arrogant, make each other angry, or be jealous of each other.
Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.
But don’t be conceited or make others jealous by claiming to be better than they are.
Let us not become vain-glorious, provoking one another, envying one another.

Let us not be made desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying on another.
We must not feel proud and boast about ourselves. We must not cause trouble for each other or be jealous of each other.

Let’s stop being arrogant, provoking one another and envying one another.
Let us not be ambitious for our own reputations, for that only means making each other jealous.

We must not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.
Then we won’t need to look for honors and popularity, which lead to jealousy and hard feelings.
Since this is the kind of life we have chosen, the life of the Spirit, let us make sure that we do not just hold it as an idea in our heads or a sentiment in our hearts, but work out its implications in every detail of our lives. That means we will not compare ourselves with each other as if one of us were better and another worse. We have far more interesting things to do with our lives. Each of us is an original.
Let us not be conceited, provoking one another and envying one another.

Let us not become proud in ways in which we should not. We must not make hard feelings among ourselves as Christians or make anyone jealous.

This will happen when we set aside our self-interests and work together to create true community instead of a culture consumed by provocation, pride, and envy.
