Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
68 “(A)Blessed be the [a]Lord God of Israel,
For He visited and accomplished (B)redemption for His people,
69 And raised up a (C)horn of salvation for us
In the house of David (D)His servant—
70 (E)As He spoke by the mouth of His holy prophets (F)from of old—
71 [b](G)Salvation (H)from our enemies,
And from the hand of all who hate us,
72 (I)To show mercy toward our fathers,
(J)And to remember His holy covenant,
73 (K)The oath which He swore to Abraham our father,
74 To grant us that we, being rescued from the hand of our enemies,
Might serve Him without fear,
75 (L)In holiness and righteousness before Him all our days.
76 And you, child, will be called the (M)prophet of (N)the Most High,
For you will go on (O)before the [c]Lord to (P)make ready His ways,
77 To give to His people the knowledge of salvation
[d]By (Q)the forgiveness of their sins,
78 Because of the tender mercy of our God,
With which (R)the Sunrise from on high will visit us,
79 (S)To shine upon those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death,
To direct our feet into the (T)way of peace.”
18 Therefore thus says Yahweh in regard to (A)Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah,
“They will not (B)lament for him:
‘(C)Alas, my brother!’ or, ‘Alas, sister!’
They will not lament for him:
‘Alas for the master!’ or, ‘Alas for his splendor!’
19 He will be (D)buried with a donkey’s burial,
Dragged off and thrown out beyond the gates of Jerusalem.
20 Go up to Lebanon and cry out,
And lift up your voice in Bashan;
Cry out also from (E)Abarim,
For all your (F)lovers have been broken.
21 I spoke to you in your prosperity,
But (G)you said, ‘I will not listen!’
(H)This has been your way (I)from your youth,
That you have not listened to My voice.
22 The wind will sweep away all your (J)shepherds,
And your (K)lovers will go into captivity;
Then you will surely be (L)ashamed and feel dishonor
Because of all your evil.
23 You who inhabit Lebanon,
Nested in the cedars,
How you will groan when pangs come upon you,
(M)Pain like a woman in childbirth!
24 “As I live,” declares Yahweh, “even though [a](N)Coniah the son of Jehoiakim king of Judah were a (O)signet ring on My right hand, yet I would pull [b]you [c]off; 25 and I will (P)give you over into the hand of those who are seeking your life, indeed, into the hand of those whom you dread, even into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and into the hand of the Chaldeans. 26 I will (Q)hurl you and your (R)mother who bore you into another land—there you were not born, but there you will die. 27 But as for the land to which their soul desires to return, they will not return to it.
28 Is this man Coniah a despised, shattered jar?
Or is he an (S)undesirable vessel?
Why have he and his seed been (T)hurled out
And cast into a (U)land that they had not known?
29 (V)O land, land, land,
Hear the word of Yahweh!
30 Thus says Yahweh,
15 (A)And they were bringing even their babies to Him so that He would touch them, but when the disciples saw it, they were rebuking them. 16 But Jesus called for them, saying, “Permit the children to come to Me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. 17 Truly I say to you, (B)whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child will never enter it.”
