Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
Do Not Hide Your Face from Me
A Prayer of the afflicted when he is faint and [a]pours out his complaint before Yahweh.
102 (A)O Yahweh, hear my prayer!
And let my cry for help (B)come to You.
2 (C)Do not hide Your face from me in the day of my distress;
(D)Incline Your ear to me;
In the day when I call (E)answer me quickly.
3 For my days (F)have [b]vanished in smoke,
And my (G)bones have been scorched like a hearth.
4 My heart (H)has been stricken like [c]grass and it has (I)dried up,
Indeed, I (J)forget to eat my bread.
5 Because of the sound of my groaning
My (K)bones [d]cling to my flesh.
6 I resemble a (L)pelican of the wilderness;
I have become like an owl of the waste places.
7 I (M)lie awake,
I have become like a lonely bird on a roof.
8 My enemies (N)have reproached me all day long;
Those who [e](O)ridicule me (P)swear against me.
9 For I have eaten ashes like bread
And (Q)mixed my drinks with weeping
10 (R)Because of Your indignation and Your wrath,
For You have (S)lifted me up and cast me away.
11 My days are like an (T)outstretched shadow,
And as for me, I (U)dry up like [f]grass.
12 But You, O Yahweh, [g](V)abide forever,
And the (W)remembrance of Your name [h]from generation to generation.
13 You will (X)arise and have (Y)compassion on Zion—
For (Z)it is time to be gracious to it,
For the (AA)appointed time has come.
14 For Your slaves [i]find pleasure in its stones
And show grace to its dust—
15 [j]So the [k](AB)nations will fear the name of Yahweh
And (AC)all the kings of the earth Your glory.
16 For Yahweh has (AD)built up Zion;
He has (AE)appeared in His glory.
17 He has (AF)turned toward the prayer of the [l]destitute
And has not despised their prayer.
15 For thus Yahweh, the God of Israel, says to me, “Take this (A)cup of the wine of wrath from My hand and cause all the nations to whom I send you to drink it. 16 They will (B)drink and stagger and go mad because of the sword that I will send among them.”
17 Then I took the cup from the hand of Yahweh and (C)made all the nations to whom Yahweh sent me drink it: 18 (D)Jerusalem and the cities of Judah and its kings and its princes, to make them a waste place, an object of horror, an object of hissing, and a curse, as it is this day; 19 (E)Pharaoh king of Egypt, his servants, his princes, and all his people, 20 and all the [a](F)foreign people, all the kings of the (G)land of Uz, all the kings of the land of the (H)Philistines (even Ashkelon, Gaza, Ekron, and the remnant of (I)Ashdod), 21 (J)Edom, (K)Moab, and the sons of (L)Ammon, 22 and all the kings of (M)Tyre, all the kings of Sidon, and the kings of (N)the coastlands which are beyond the sea, 23 and (O)Dedan, Tema, (P)Buz, and all who (Q)cut [b]the corners of their hair, 24 and all the kings of (R)Arabia and all the kings of the [c](S)foreign people who dwell in the desert, 25 and all the kings of Zimri, all the kings of (T)Elam, and all the kings of (U)Media, 26 and all the kings of the north, near and far, one with another; and (V)all the kingdoms of the earth which are upon the face of the ground, and the king of [d](W)Sheshach shall drink after them.
27 “You shall say to them, ‘Thus says Yahweh of hosts, the God of Israel, “(X)Drink, be drunk, vomit, fall, and rise no more because of the (Y)sword which I will send among you.”’ 28 And it will be, if they (Z)refuse to take the cup from your hand to drink, then you will say to them, ‘Thus says Yahweh of hosts: “(AA)You shall surely drink! 29 For behold, I am (AB)beginning to bring evil against this city which is (AC)called by My name. But shall you be completely free from punishment? You will not be free from punishment, for (AD)I am calling for a sword against all the inhabitants of the earth,” declares Yahweh of hosts.’
30 “Therefore you shall prophesy against them all these words, and you shall say to them,
‘(AE)Yahweh will (AF)roar from on high
And give forth His voice from His holy habitation;
He will roar mightily against His [e]pasture.
He will bellow a shout like those who tread the grapes,
Against all the inhabitants of the earth.
31 A rumbling has come to the end of the earth
Because Yahweh has (AG)a contention against the nations.
He is entering into (AH)judgment with all flesh;
As for the wicked, He has given them to the sword,’ declares Yahweh.”
32 Thus says Yahweh of hosts,
The Twelve Disciples Sent Out
5 (A)These twelve Jesus sent out after instructing them, saying, “Do not [a]go [b]in the way of the Gentiles, and do not enter any city of the (B)Samaritans; 6 but rather go to (C)the lost sheep of the house of Israel. 7 And as you go, [c]preach, saying, ‘(D)The kingdom of heaven [d]is at hand.’ 8 Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons. Freely you received, freely give. 9 (E)Do not acquire gold, or silver, or copper for your money belts, 10 or a [e]bag for your journey, or even two [f]tunics, or sandals, or a staff; for (F)the worker is worthy of his [g]support. 11 And whatever city or village you enter, inquire who is worthy in it, and stay there until you leave. 12 Now as you enter the [h]house, (G)give it your [i]greeting. 13 And if the house is worthy, let your peace come upon it. But if it is not worthy, let your peace return to you. 14 And whoever does not receive you, nor heed your words, as you leave that house or that city, (H)shake the dust off your feet. 15 Truly I say to you, (I)it will be more tolerable for the land of (J)Sodom and Gomorrah in (K)the day of judgment than for that city.
