Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
40 So the (A)anger of Yahweh was kindled against His people
And He (B)abhorred His [a](C)inheritance.
41 Then (D)He gave them into the hand of the [b]nations,
And those who hated them ruled over them.
42 Their enemies (E)oppressed them,
And they were subdued under their hand.
43 Many times He would (F)deliver them;
But they were rebellious in their (G)counsel,
And so they (H)sank down in their iniquity.
17 (A)Gather up your bundle from the ground,
You who inhabit a land under siege!
18 For thus says Yahweh,
“Behold, I am (B)slinging out the inhabitants of the land
At this time,
And will cause them distress,
That they may find it.”
19 (C)Woe is me, because of my [a]injury!
My (D)wound is desperately sick.
But I said, “Truly this is a sickness,
And I (E)must bear it.”
20 My (F)tent is destroyed,
And all my ropes are torn out;
My (G)sons have gone from me and are no more.
There is (H)no one to stretch out my tent again
Or to set up my curtains.
21 For the shepherds have become senseless
And (I)have not sought Yahweh;
Therefore they have not prospered,
And (J)all their flock is scattered.
22 The sound of a (K)report! Behold, it comes—
A great quaking (L)out of the land of the north—
To (M)make the cities of Judah
A desolation, a haunt of jackals.
23 I know, O Yahweh, that (N)a man’s way is not in himself,
(O)Nor is it in a man who walks to [b]direct his steps.
24 (P)Discipline me, O Yahweh, but with justice;
Not with Your anger, lest You [c]bring me to nothing.
25 (Q)Pour out Your wrath on the nations that (R)do not know You
And on the families that (S)do not call Your name,
For they have devoured Jacob;
They have (T)devoured him and consumed him
And have made desolate his [d]abode.
45 (A)And while all the people were listening, He said to the disciples, 46 “Beware of the scribes, (B)who want to walk around in long robes, and love greetings in the marketplaces, and best seats in the synagogues and places of honor at banquets, 47 who devour widows’ houses, and for appearance’s sake offer long prayers. These will receive greater condemnation.”
The Widow’s Offering
21 (C)And He looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the treasury. 2 And He saw a poor widow putting [a]in (D)two [b]lepta. 3 And He said, “Truly I say to you, this poor widow put in more than all of them. 4 For they all put in their gifts out of their abundance; but she, out of what she lacked, put in all [c]that she had (E)for living.”
