Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
You Have Turned My Mourning into Dancing
A Psalm. A Song at the Dedication of the House. Of David.
30 I will (A)exalt You, O Yahweh, for You have (B)lifted me up,
And have not let my (C)enemies be glad over me.
2 O Yahweh my God,
I (D)cried to You for help, and You (E)healed me.
3 O Yahweh, You have (F)brought up my soul from Sheol;
You have kept me alive, [a]that I would not (G)go down to the pit.
4 (H)Sing praise to Yahweh, you (I)His holy ones,
And (J)give thanks for the (K)remembrance of His holy name.
5 For (L)His anger is but for a moment,
His (M)favor is for a lifetime;
Weeping may (N)last for the night,
But a shout of joy comes in the morning.
6 Now as for me, I said in my prosperity,
“I will (O)never be shaken.”
7 O Yahweh, by Your favor You have made my mountain to stand strong;
You (P)hid Your face, I was dismayed.
8 To You, O Yahweh, I called,
And to the Lord I made supplication:
9 “What profit is there in my blood, if I (Q)go down to the pit?
Will the (R)dust praise You? Will it declare Your truth?
10 “(S)Hear, O Yahweh, and be gracious to me;
O Yahweh, be my (T)helper.”
11 You have turned for me (U)my mourning into dancing;
You have (V)loosed my sackcloth and girded me with (W)gladness,
12 That my [b](X)glory may sing praise to You and not be silent.
O Yahweh my God, I will (Y)give thanks to You forever.
The Shunammite Woman Will Bear a Son
8 Now there came a day when Elisha passed over to (A)Shunem, where there was a [a]prominent woman, and she prevailed upon him to eat [b]food. Now it happened, as often as he passed by, that he turned in there to eat [c]food. 9 And she said to her husband, “Behold now, I know that this is a holy (B)man of God passing by us continually. 10 Please, let us (C)make a little walled upper chamber and let us set a bed for him there, and a table and a chair and a lampstand; and it will be, when he comes to us, that he can turn in there.”
11 Now it happened that one day he came there and turned in to the upper chamber, and there he [d]lay down. 12 Then he said to (D)Gehazi his young man, “Call this Shunammite.” So he called her, and she stood before him. 13 And he said to him, “Say now to her, ‘Behold, you have been [e]careful for us with all this [f]care; what can I do for you? Would you be spoken for to the king or to the commander of the army?’” And she [g]answered, “I live among my own people.” 14 So he said, “What then is to be done for her?” And Gehazi [h]answered, “Truly she has no son, and her husband is old.” 15 And he said, “Call her.” So he called her, and she stood in the doorway. 16 Then he said, “(E)At this season [i]next year you will embrace a son.” And she said, “No, my lord, O man of God, (F)do not lie to your servant-woman.”
17 Then the woman conceived and bore a son at that season [j]the next year, as Elisha had said to her.
14 For we know that the Law is (A)spiritual, but I am (B)fleshly, (C)having been sold [a](D)into bondage under sin. 15 For what I am working out, (E)I do not understand; for I am not practicing (F)what I would like to do, but I am doing the very thing I hate. 16 But if I do the very thing I do not want, I agree with (G)the Law, that it is good. 17 So now, (H)no longer am I the one working it out, but sin which dwells in me. 18 For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my (I)flesh; for the willing is present in me, but the working out of the good is not. 19 For (J)the good that I want, I do not do, but I practice the very evil that I do not want. 20 But if I am doing the very thing I do not want, (K)I am no longer the one working it out, but sin which dwells in me.
21 I find then (L)the [b]principle that in me evil is present—in me who wants to do good. 22 For I joyfully concur with the law of God [c]in (M)the inner man, 23 but I see (N)a different law in my members, waging war against the (O)law of my mind and making me a captive [d]to (P)the law of sin which is in my members. 24 Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from [e](Q)the body of this (R)death? 25 [f](S)Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, on the one hand I myself with my mind am serving the law of God, but on the other, with my flesh (T)the law of sin.
