Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
26 Then the wife of Uriah heard that Uriah her husband had died, so (A)she lamented over her husband. 27 Then the time of mourning passed by, and David sent and gathered her to his house and (B)she became his wife; then she bore him a son. But (C)the thing that David had done was evil in the sight of Yahweh.
Yahweh Sends Nathan to David
12 Then Yahweh sent (D)Nathan to David. And (E)he came to him and [a]said,
“There were two men in one city, the one rich and the other poor.
2 The rich man had a great many flocks and herds.
3 But the poor man had nothing except (F)one little ewe lamb
Which he bought and nourished;
And it grew up together with him and his children.
It would eat his morsel of bread and drink of his cup and lie in his bosom,
And was like a daughter to him.
4 Now a visitor came to the rich man,
And he [b]was unwilling to take from his own flock or his own herd,
To prepare for the traveler who had come to him;
Rather he took the poor man’s ewe lamb and prepared it for the man who had come to him.”
5 Then David’s anger burned greatly against the man, and he said to Nathan, “As Yahweh lives, surely the man who has done this [c](G)deserves to die. 6 And he must make restitution for the lamb (H)fourfold, because he did this thing and had no compassion.”
7 Nathan then said to David, “(I)You are the man! Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel, ‘(J)It is I who anointed you king over Israel and it is I who delivered you from the hand of Saul. 8 I also gave you (K)your master’s house and your master’s wives into your [d]care, and I gave you the house of Israel and Judah; and if that had been too little, I would have added to you many more things like these! 9 Why (L)have you despised the word of Yahweh by doing evil in His sight? (M)You have struck down Uriah the Hittite with the sword, (N)have taken his wife to be your wife, and have killed him with the sword of the sons of Ammon. 10 So now, (O)the sword shall never depart from your house, because you have despised Me and have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your wife.’ 11 Thus says Yahweh, ‘Behold, I will raise up evil against you from your own household; (P)I will even take your wives from before your sight and give them to your companion, and he will lie with your wives in the sight of this sun. 12 Indeed (Q)you did it secretly, but (R)I will do this thing before all Israel, and before the sun.’” 13 Then David said to Nathan, “(S)I have sinned against Yahweh.” And Nathan said to David, “Yahweh also has [e](T)taken away your sin; you shall not die.
Create in Me a Clean Heart, O God
For the choir director. A Psalm of David. When [a]Nathan the prophet came to him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba.
51 (A)Be gracious to me, O God, according to Your lovingkindness;
According to the abundance of (B)Your compassion (C)blot out my transgressions.
2 (D)Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity
And (E)cleanse me from my sin.
3 For [b]I (F)know my transgressions,
And my sin is ever before me.
4 (G)Against You, You only, I have sinned
And done what is (H)evil in Your sight,
So that (I)You [c]are justified [d]when You speak
And pure when You judge.
5 Behold, I was (J)brought forth in iniquity,
And in sin my mother conceived me.
6 Behold, You delight in (K)truth in the [e]innermost being,
And in the hidden part You will (L)make me know wisdom.
7 [f]Purify me (M)with hyssop, and I shall be clean;
[g]Wash me, and I shall be (N)whiter than snow.
8 [h]Make me to hear (O)joy and gladness,
Let the (P)bones which You have crushed rejoice.
9 (Q)Hide Your face from my sins
And blot out all my iniquities.
Unity of the Spirit
4 Therefore I, (A)the prisoner in the Lord, (B)exhort you to (C)walk worthy of the (D)calling with which you have been (E)called, 2 with all (F)humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another (G)in love, 3 being diligent to keep the unity of the Spirit in the (H)bond of peace. 4 There is (I)one body and one Spirit, just as also you were called in one (J)hope of your calling; 5 (K)one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6 one God and Father of all (L)who is over all and through all and in all.
7 But (M)to each one of us (N)grace was given (O)according to the measure of Christ’s gift. 8 Therefore [a]it says,
9 (Now this expression, “He (R)ascended,” what [b]does it mean except that He also [c]descended into (S)the lower parts of the earth? 10 He who descended is Himself also He who ascended (T)far above all the heavens, so that He might (U)fill all things.) 11 And He Himself (V)gave (W)some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as (X)evangelists, and some as pastors and (Y)teachers, 12 (Z)for the equipping of the [d]saints for the work of service, to the building up of (AA)the body of Christ, 13 until we all attain to (AB)the unity of the faith, and of the [e](AC)full knowledge of the Son of God, to a (AD)mature man, to the measure of the stature [f]which belongs to the (AE)fullness of Christ, 14 so that we are (AF)no longer to be children, (AG)tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by (AH)craftiness [g]in (AI)deceitful scheming, 15 but [h]speaking the truth (AJ)in love, [i]we are to (AK)grow up in all aspects into Him who is the (AL)head, that is Christ, 16 from whom (AM)the whole body, being joined and held together [j]by what every joint supplies, according to the properly (AN)measured working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself (AO)in love.
24 So when the crowd saw that Jesus was not there, nor His disciples, they themselves got into the small boats, and (A)came to Capernaum seeking Jesus. 25 And when they found Him on the other side of the sea, they said to Him, “(B)Rabbi, when did You come here?”
I Am the Bread of Life
26 Jesus answered them and said, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you (C)seek Me, not because you saw (D)signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled. 27 Do not (E)work for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to (F)eternal life, which (G)the Son of Man will give to you, for on Him the Father, God, (H)set His seal.” 28 Therefore they said to Him, “What should we do, so that we may work the works of God?” 29 Jesus answered and said to them, “This is (I)the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He (J)has sent.” 30 So they said to Him, “(K)What then do You do for a (L)sign so that we may see, and believe You? What work do You perform? 31 (M)Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written, ‘(N)He gave them bread from heaven to eat.’” 32 Jesus then said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, Moses has not given you the bread from heaven, but My Father gives you the true bread from heaven. 33 For the bread of God is [a]that which (O)comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.” 34 Then they said to Him, “Lord, always (P)give us this bread.”
35 Jesus said to them, “(Q)I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me will never hunger, and he who believes in Me (R)will never thirst.
