Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
O Yahweh, Your Name Is Everlasting
135 [a](A)Praise Yah!
Praise the name of Yahweh;
Praise Him, O (B)slaves of Yahweh,
2 You who stand in the house of Yahweh,
In the (C)courts of the house of our God!
3 [b]Praise Yah, for (D)Yahweh is good;
(E)Sing praises to His name, (F)for it is lovely.
4 For Yah has (G)chosen Jacob for Himself,
Israel for His [c](H)treasured possession.
5 For I know that (I)Yahweh is great
And that our Lord is greater (J)than all gods.
6 (K)Whatever Yahweh pleases, He does,
In heaven and on earth, in the seas and in all deeps.
7 The One who (L)causes the clouds to ascend from the end of the earth;
Who (M)makes lightnings for the rain,
Who (N)brings forth the wind from His storehouses.
8 [d]He (O)struck the firstborn of Egypt,
From man to beast.
9 [e]He sent (P)signs and wonders into your midst, O Egypt,
Amongst (Q)Pharaoh and all his slaves.
10 [f](R)He (S)struck many nations
And slew mighty kings,
11 (T)Sihon, king of the Amorites,
And (U)Og, king of Bashan,
And (V)all the kingdoms of Canaan;
12 And He (W)gave their land as an inheritance,
An inheritance to Israel His people.
13 O Yahweh, Your (X)name is everlasting,
O Yahweh, Your [g]remembrance is [h]from generation to generation.
14 For Yahweh will (Y)render justice for His people
And (Z)will give comfort to His slaves.
15 The (AA)idols of the nations are silver and gold,
The work of man’s hands.
16 They have mouths, but they do not speak;
They have eyes, but they do not see;
17 They have ears, but they do not hear,
Surely, there is not any breath in their mouths.
18 Those who make them will be like them,
All who trust in them.
Yahweh Will Establish Peace
26 (A)In that day this song will be sung in the land of Judah:
“We have a (B)strong city;
He sets up walls and ramparts for (C)salvation.
2 Open the (D)gates, that the (E)righteous nation may enter,
The one that keeps faithfulness.
3 The steadfast of mind You will keep in perfect (F)peace
Because he trusts in You.
4 (G)Trust in Yahweh forever,
For in Yah—Yahweh Himself—we have an everlasting (H)Rock.
5 For He has laid low those who settle on high, the [a](I)exalted city;
(J)He brings it low, He brings it low to the ground, He casts it to the dust.
6 (K)The foot will trample it,
The feet of the (L)afflicted, the steps of the poor.”
7 The (M)way of the righteous is upright;
O Upright One, (N)make the path of the righteous level.
8 Indeed, while following the way of (O)Your judgments, O Yahweh,
We have hoped for You eagerly;
(P)Your name—the (Q)memory of You—is the desire of our souls.
9 (R)At night [b]my soul longs for You,
Indeed, [c]my spirit within me (S)seeks You earnestly;
For when the earth [d]experiences Your judgments,
The inhabitants of the world (T)learn righteousness.
10 Though the wicked is shown favor,
He does not (U)learn righteousness;
He (V)deals unjustly in the land of uprightness,
And does not perceive the majesty of Yahweh.
11 O Yahweh, Your hand is raised up high, yet they (W)do not behold it.
[e]They behold (X)Your zeal for the people and are put to shame;
Indeed, [f](Y)fire will devour Your adversaries.
12 Yahweh, You will establish (Z)peace for us,
Since You have also performed for us all our works.
13 O Yahweh our God, (AA)other masters besides You have ruled us;
But through You alone we (AB)bring Your name to remembrance.
14 (AC)The dead will not live; the [g]departed spirits will not rise;
Therefore You have (AD)visited and destroyed them,
And You have made all remembrance of them perish.
15 (AE)You have increased the nation, O Yahweh;
You have increased the nation, You are glorified;
You have (AF)extended all the borders of the land.
The Sadducees and the Resurrection
18 (A)Then some Sadducees (who say that there is no resurrection) *came to Jesus, and began questioning Him, saying, 19 “Teacher, Moses wrote for us that (B)if a man’s brother dies and leaves behind a wife and leaves no child, his brother should [a]marry the wife and raise up a seed for his brother. 20 There were seven brothers; and the first [b]married a wife, and died leaving no [c]seed. 21 And the second one [d]married her, and died leaving behind no seed; and the third likewise; 22 and so [e]all seven left no seed. Last of all the woman died also. 23 In the resurrection, [f]when they rise again, whose wife will she be? For [g]all seven [h]had married her.” 24 Jesus said to them, “Is this not the reason you are mistaken, that you do not [i]understand the Scriptures nor the power of God? 25 For when they rise from the dead, they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven. 26 But [j]regarding the fact that the dead are raised, have you not read in the book of Moses, (C)in the passage about the burning bush, how God spoke to him, saying, ‘(D)I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? 27 (E)He is not the God of the dead, but of the living; you are greatly mistaken.”
