²⁴ Therefore, ^(A)as a tongue of fire consumes stubble
And dry grass collapses into the flame,
So their ^(B)root will become ^(C)like rot and their blossom ^[a]blow away as dust;
For they have ^(D)rejected the law of Yahweh of hosts
And the word of the Holy One of Israel they have spurned.

^18 (A)For wickedness burns like a fire;
It consumes briars and thorns;
It even sets the thickets of the forest aflame,
And they roll upward in a column of smoke.
¹⁹ By the ^(B)fury of Yahweh of hosts the ^(C)land is burned up,
And the ^(D)people are like fuel for the fire;
No ^(E)man spares his brother.

¹⁷ And the ^(A)light of Israel will become a fire and his ^(B)Holy One a flame,
And it will ^(C)burn and devour his thorns and his briars in a single day.
