Psalm 118:1-2

Psalm 118[a]

Hymn of Thanksgiving

I

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good,(A)
    his mercy endures forever.
Let Israel say:
    his mercy endures forever.

Psalm 118:19-29

V

19 Open the gates of righteousness;
    I will enter and thank the Lord.(A)
20 This is the Lord’s own gate,
    through it the righteous enter.
21 I thank you for you answered me;
    you have been my savior.
22 [a]The stone the builders rejected
    has become the cornerstone.(B)
23 By the Lord has this been done;
    it is wonderful in our eyes.
24 This is the day the Lord has made;
    let us rejoice in it and be glad.
25 Lord, grant salvation![b]
    Lord, grant good fortune!

VI

26 Blessed is he
    who comes in the name of the Lord.(C)
We bless you from the house of the Lord.
27     The Lord is God and has enlightened us.
Join in procession with leafy branches
    up to the horns of the altar.

VII

28 You are my God, I give you thanks;
    my God, I offer you praise.
29 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good,
    his mercy endures forever.

Deuteronomy 16:1-8

Chapter 16

Feast of the Passover. Observe the month of Abib[a] by keeping the Passover of the Lord, your God,(A) since it was in the month of Abib that the Lord, your God, brought you out of Egypt by night. You shall offer the Passover sacrifice from your flock and your herd to the Lord, your God, in the place the Lord will choose as the dwelling place of his name.(B) (C)You shall not eat leavened bread with it. For seven days you shall eat with it only unleavened bread, the bread of affliction, so that you may remember as long as you live the day you left the land of Egypt; for in hurried flight you left the land of Egypt. No leaven is to be found with you in all your territory for seven days, and none of the meat which you sacrificed on the evening of the first day shall be kept overnight for the next day.

You may not sacrifice the Passover in any of the communities which the Lord, your God, gives you; only at the place which the Lord, your God, will choose as the dwelling place of his name, and in the evening at sunset, at the very time when you left Egypt, shall you sacrifice the Passover.(D) You shall cook and eat it at the place the Lord, your God, will choose; then in the morning you may return to your tents. For six days you shall eat unleavened bread, and on the seventh day there shall be a solemn assembly for the Lord, your God; on that day you shall do no work.(E)

Philippians 2:1-11

Chapter 2

Plea for Unity and Humility.[a] If there is any encouragement in Christ, any solace in love, any participation in the Spirit, any compassion and mercy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, with the same love, united in heart, thinking one thing.(A) Do nothing out of selfishness or out of vainglory; rather, humbly regard others as more important than yourselves,(B) each looking out not for his own interests, but [also] everyone for those of others.(C)

Have among yourselves the same attitude that is also yours in Christ Jesus,[b]

Who,[c] though he was in the form of God,(D)
    did not regard equality with God something to be grasped.[d]
    Rather, he emptied himself,
    taking the form of a slave,
    coming in human likeness;[e]
    and found human in appearance,(E)
    he humbled himself,(F)
        becoming obedient to death,
        even death on a cross.[f]
Because of this, God greatly exalted him
    and bestowed on him the name[g]
    that is above every name,(G)
10     that at the name of Jesus
    every knee should bend,[h]
    of those in heaven and on earth and under the earth,(H)
11     and every tongue confess that
    Jesus Christ is Lord,[i]
    to the glory of God the Father.(I)

Obedience and Service in the World.[j]
