Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
Praise to the Lord for His Fidelity to Israel.
99 (A)The Lord reigns, let the peoples tremble;
He [a](B)is enthroned above the cherubim, let the earth shake!
2 The Lord [b]is (C)great in Zion,
And He is (D)exalted above all the peoples.
3 Let them praise Your (E)great and awesome name;
(F)Holy is [c]He.
4 The [d]strength of the King (G)loves [e]justice;
You have established [f](H)equity;
You have (I)executed [g]justice and righteousness in Jacob.
5 [h](J)Exalt the Lord our God
And (K)worship at His footstool;
(L)Holy is He.
6 (M)Moses and Aaron were among His (N)priests,
And (O)Samuel was among those who (P)called on His name;
They (Q)called upon the Lord and He answered them.
7 He (R)spoke to them in the pillar of cloud;
They (S)kept His testimonies
And the statute that He gave them.
8 O Lord our God, You (T)answered them;
You were a (U)forgiving God to them,
And yet an (V)avenger of their evil deeds.
9 Exalt the Lord our God
And worship at His holy hill,
For holy is the Lord our God.
Israel Provoked God
9 “Hear, O Israel! You are crossing over the Jordan today to go in to dispossess (A)nations greater and mightier than you, great cities [a](B)fortified to heaven, 2 a people great and tall, the sons of the Anakim, whom you know and of whom you have heard it said, ‘(C)Who can stand before the sons of Anak?’ 3 Know therefore today that (D)it is the Lord your God who is crossing over before you as (E)a consuming fire. He will destroy them and He will subdue them before you, so that (F)you may drive them out and destroy them quickly, just as the Lord has spoken to you.
4 “(G)Do not say in your heart when the Lord your God has driven them out before [b]you, ‘Because of my righteousness the Lord has brought me in to possess this land,’ but it is (H)because of the wickedness of these nations that the Lord is dispossessing them before you. 5 It is (I)not for your righteousness or for the uprightness of your heart that you are going to possess their land, but it is because of the wickedness of these nations that the Lord your God is driving them out before you, in order to confirm (J)the [c]oath which the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
Peter’s Second Sermon
11 While he was clinging to (A)Peter and John, all the people ran together to them at the so-called [a](B)portico of Solomon, full of amazement. 12 But when Peter saw this, he replied to the people, “Men of Israel, why are you amazed at this, or why do you gaze at us, as if by our own power or piety we had made him walk? 13 (C)The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, (D)the God of our fathers, has glorified His [b](E)servant Jesus, the one whom (F)you delivered and disowned in the presence of (G)Pilate, when he had (H)decided to release Him. 14 But you disowned (I)the Holy and Righteous One and (J)asked for a murderer to be granted to you, 15 but put to death the [c](K)Prince of life, the one whom (L)God raised from the dead, a fact to which we are (M)witnesses. 16 And on the basis of faith (N)in His name, it is [d]the name of Jesus which has strengthened this man whom you see and know; and the faith which comes through Him has given him this perfect health in the presence of you all.
