Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
BOOK 1
The Righteous and the Wicked Contrasted.
1 How blessed is the man who (A)does not walk in the (B)counsel of the wicked,
Nor stand in the [a](C)path of sinners,
Nor (D)sit in the seat of scoffers!
2 But his (E)delight is (F)in the law of the Lord,
And in His law he meditates (G)day and (H)night.
3 He will be like (I)a tree firmly planted by [b]streams of water,
Which yields its fruit in its season
And its [c]leaf does not wither;
And [d]in whatever he does, (J)he prospers.
Captivity Threatened
12 “Therefore you are to speak this word to them, ‘Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, “Every jug is to be filled with wine.”’ And when they say to you, ‘Do we not very well know that every jug is to be filled with wine?’ 13 then say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord, “Behold I am about to fill all the inhabitants of this land—the kings that sit for David on his throne, the priests, the prophets and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem—with (A)drunkenness! 14 I will (B)dash them against each other, both the (C)fathers and the sons together,” declares the Lord. “I will (D)not show pity nor be sorry nor have compassion so as not to destroy them.”’”
15 Listen and give heed, do not be (E)haughty,
For the Lord has spoken.
16 (F)Give glory to the Lord your God,
Before He brings (G)darkness
And before your (H)feet stumble
On the dusky mountains,
And while you are hoping for light
He makes it into (I)deep darkness,
And turns it into gloom.
17 But (J)if you will not listen to it,
My soul will (K)sob in secret for such pride;
And my eyes will bitterly weep
And flow down with tears,
Because the (L)flock of the Lord has been taken captive.
18 Say to the (M)king and the queen mother,
“(N)Take a lowly seat,
For your beautiful (O)crown
Has come down from your head.”
19 The (P)cities of the Negev have been locked up,
And there is no one to open them;
All (Q)Judah has been carried into exile,
Wholly carried into exile.
26 “Brethren, sons of Abraham’s family, and those among you who fear God, to us the message of (A)this salvation has been sent. 27 For those who live in Jerusalem, and their (B)rulers, (C)recognizing neither Him nor the [a]utterances of (D)the prophets which are (E)read every Sabbath, fulfilled these by condemning Him. 28 And though they found no ground for putting Him to death, they (F)asked Pilate that He be [b]executed. 29 When they had (G)carried out all that was written concerning Him, (H)they took Him down from (I)the [c]cross and (J)laid Him in a tomb. 30 But God (K)raised Him from the dead; 31 and for many days (L)He appeared to those who came up with Him from Galilee to Jerusalem, the very ones who are now (M)His witnesses to the people. 32 And we (N)preach to you the good news of (O)the promise made to the fathers, 33 that God has fulfilled this promise [d]to our children in that He (P)raised up Jesus, as it is also written in the second Psalm, ‘(Q)You are My Son; today i have begotten You.’ 34 As for the fact that He (R)raised Him up from the dead, no longer to return to decay, He has spoken in this way: ‘(S)I will give you the holy and [e]sure blessings of David.’
