Psalm 85:8-13

(A)Let me hear what God the Lord will speak,
    for he will (B)speak peace to his people, to his (C)saints;
    but let them not (D)turn back to (E)folly.
Surely his (F)salvation is near to those who fear him,
    that (G)glory may dwell in our land.
10 (H)Steadfast love and faithfulness meet;
    (I)righteousness and peace kiss each other.
11 Faithfulness springs up from the ground,
    and righteousness looks down from the sky.
12 Yes, (J)the Lord will give what is good,
    and our land (K)will yield its increase.
13 (L)Righteousness will go before him
    and make his footsteps a way.

1 Kings 18:17-19

17 When Ahab saw Elijah, Ahab said to him, (A)“Is it you, you (B)troubler of Israel?” 18 And he answered, “I have not troubled Israel, but you have, and your father's house, because you have (C)abandoned the commandments of the Lord and (D)followed the Baals. 19 Now therefore send and gather all Israel to me at Mount (E)Carmel, and the (F)450 prophets of Baal and (G)the 400 prophets of Asherah, (H)who eat at Jezebel's table.”

1 Kings 18:30-40

30 Then Elijah said to all the people, “Come near to me.” And all the people came near to him. And he repaired the altar of the Lord that had been (A)thrown down. 31 Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, to whom the word of the Lord came, saying, (B)“Israel shall be your name”, 32 and with the stones he built an altar in the name of the Lord. And he made a trench about the altar, as great as would contain two seahs[a] of seed. 33 (C)And he put the wood in order and cut the bull in pieces and laid it on the wood. And he said, “Fill four jars with water and (D)pour it on the burnt offering and on the wood.” 34 And he said, “Do it a second time.” And they did it a second time. And he said, “Do it a third time.” And they did it a third time. 35 And the water ran round the altar and filled the trench also with water.

36 And at the time of (E)the offering of the oblation, Elijah the prophet came near and said, “O Lord, (F)God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, let it be known this day that (G)you are God in Israel, and that I am your servant, and that (H)I have done all these things at your word. 37 Answer me, O Lord, answer me, that this people may know that you, O Lord, are God, and that you have turned their hearts back.” 38 (I)Then the fire of the Lord fell and consumed the burnt offering and the wood and the stones and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench. 39 And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces and said, (J)“The Lord, he is God; the Lord, he is God.” 40 And Elijah said to them, “Seize the prophets of Baal; let not one of them escape.” And they seized them. And Elijah brought them down to (K)the brook Kishon and (L)slaughtered them there.

Acts 18:24-28

Apollos Speaks Boldly in Ephesus

24 Now a Jew named (A)Apollos, a native of Alexandria, came to Ephesus. He was an eloquent man, (B)competent in the Scriptures. 25 He had been instructed in (C)the way of the Lord. And (D)being fervent in spirit,[a] he spoke and taught accurately the things concerning Jesus, though he knew only (E)the baptism of John. 26 He began to speak boldly in the synagogue, but when (F)Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they took him and explained to him (G)the way of God more accurately. 27 And when he wished to cross to (H)Achaia, (I)the brothers encouraged him and (J)wrote to the disciples to welcome him. When he arrived, (K)he greatly helped those who through grace had believed, 28 for he powerfully refuted the Jews in public, showing by the Scriptures (L)that the Christ was Jesus.
