A Man on a Red Horse
7 On the twenty-fourth day of the eleventh month, which is the month Shebat, in the second year of Darius, the word of Yahweh came to Zechariah the prophet, the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo, saying, 8 I saw at night, and behold, a man was riding on a (A)red horse, and he was standing among the (B)myrtle trees which were in the ravine, with red, sorrel, and (C)white horses behind him. 9 Then I said, “My (D)lord, what are these?” And the (E)angel who was speaking with me said to me, “I will show you what these are.” 10 And the man who was standing among the myrtle trees answered and said, “These are those whom Yahweh has sent to [a](F)patrol the earth.” 11 So they answered the angel of Yahweh who was (G)standing among the myrtle trees and said, “We have [b]patrolled the earth, and behold, (H)all the earth is sitting still and quiet.”
12 Then the angel of Yahweh answered and said, “O Yahweh of hosts, (I)how long will You (J)have no compassion for Jerusalem and the cities of Judah, with which You have been (K)indignant these (L)seventy years?” 13 Yahweh answered the (M)angel who was speaking with me with good words, (N)comforting words. 14 So the angel who was speaking with me said to me, “(O)Call out, saying, ‘Thus says Yahweh of hosts, “I am (P)exceedingly jealous for Jerusalem and Zion. 15 But I am very (Q)wrathful with the nations who are (R)at ease; for I was only a little wrathful, but they (S)helped increase the calamity.” 16 Therefore thus says Yahweh, “I will (T)return to Jerusalem with compassion; My (U)house will be built in it,” declares Yahweh of hosts, “and a measuring (V)line will be stretched over Jerusalem.”’ 17 Again, call out, saying, ‘Thus says Yahweh of hosts, “My (W)cities will again overflow with good, and Yahweh will again (X)comfort Zion and again (Y)choose Jerusalem.”’”
God’s Righteous Judgment
2 Therefore you are (A)without excuse, (B)O man, everyone who passes judgment, for in that which (C)you judge another, you condemn yourself; for you who judge practice the same things. 2 And we know that the judgment of God [a]rightly falls upon those who practice such things. 3 But do you presume this, (D)O man—who passes judgment on those who practice such things and does the same—that you will escape the judgment of God? 4 Or do you think lightly of (E)the riches of His (F)kindness and (G)forbearance and (H)patience, not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance? 5 But [b]because of your stubbornness and unrepentant heart (I)you are storing up wrath for yourself (J)in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God, 6 (K)who will repay to each according to his works: 7 to those who by (L)perseverance in doing good seek for (M)glory and honor and (N)immortality, (O)eternal life; 8 but to those who are (P)selfishly ambitious and (Q)do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, wrath and anger. 9 There will be (R)affliction and turmoil [c]for every soul of man who works out evil, of the Jew (S)first and also of the Greek, 10 but (T)glory and honor and peace to everyone who works good, to the Jew (U)first and also to the Greek. 11 For (V)there is no partiality with God.
