Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
7 O God of hosts, restore us
And cause Your face to shine upon us, that we might be saved.
8 You removed a (A)vine from Egypt;
You (B)drove out the [a]nations and then You (C)planted it.
9 You (D)cleared the ground before it,
And it (E)took deep root and filled the land.
10 The mountains were covered with its shadow,
And [b]the cedars of God with its (F)boughs.
11 It sent out its branches (G)to the sea
And its shoots to the River.
12 Why have You (H)broken down its [c]hedges,
So that all who pass that way pick its fruit?
13 A boar from the forest (I)devours it
And whatever moves in the field feeds on it.
14 “Is Israel (A)a slave? Or is he a homeborn slave?
Why has he become plunder?
15 The young (B)lions have roared at him;
They have given forth their voice.
And they have (C)made his land a desolation;
His cities have been turned into ruin, without inhabitant.
16 Also the [a]men of (D)Memphis and Tahpanhes
Have [b]shaved the (E)top of your head.
17 Have you not (F)done this to yourself
By your forsaking Yahweh your God
When He (G)led you in the way?
18 But now what are you doing (H)on the road to Egypt,
To drink the waters of the [c](I)Nile?
Or what are you doing on the road to Assyria,
To drink the waters of the [d]River?
19 (J)Your own evil will chastise you,
And your (K)acts of faithlessness will reprove you;
Know therefore and see that it is evil and (L)bitter
For you to forsake Yahweh your God,
And (M)the dread of Me is not in you,” declares Lord Yahweh of hosts.
20 “For long ago [e](N)I broke your yoke
And tore off your bonds;
But you said, ‘I will not serve!’
For on every (O)high hill
And under every green tree
You have lain down as a harlot.
21 Yet I (P)planted you a choice vine,
A completely true seed.
How then have you turned yourself before Me
Into the (Q)degenerate shoots of a foreign vine?
22 Although you (R)wash yourself with lye
And [f]use much soap,
The (S)stain of your iniquity is before Me,” declares Lord Yahweh.
16 Therefore, no one is to (A)judge you in (B)food and (C)drink, or in respect to a (D)festival or a (E)new moon or a (F)Sabbath [a]day— 17 things which are only a (G)shadow of what is to come; but the [b]substance [c]belongs to Christ. 18 Let no one keep [d](H)defrauding you of your prize by (I)delighting in [e]self-abasement and the worship of the angels, going into detail about visions he has seen, (J)being puffed up for nothing by his (K)fleshly mind, 19 and not holding fast to (L)the head, from whom (M)the entire body, being supplied and held together by the joints and [f]ligaments, grows with a growth [g]that is from God.
20 (N)If you have died with Christ [h]to the (O)elementary principles of the world, (P)why, as if you were living in the world, do you submit yourself to (Q)decrees: 21 “Do not handle, nor taste, nor touch”? 22 Which [i]deal with everything (R)destined to perish [j]with use, which are in accordance with the (S)commands and teachings of men; 23 which are matters having, to be sure, a [k]word of wisdom in [l](T)self-made religion and self-abasement and (U)severe treatment of the body, but are of no value against (V)fleshly indulgence.
