92 It is (A)good to give thanks to the Lord
And to (B)sing praises to Your name, O Most High;
2 To (C)declare Your lovingkindness in the morning
And Your (D)faithfulness [a]by night,
3 [b]With the (E)ten-stringed lute and [c]with the (F)harp,
[d]With resounding music [e]upon the (G)lyre.
4 For You, O Lord, have made me glad by [f]what You (H)have done,
I will (I)sing for joy at the (J)works of Your hands.
5 How (K)great are Your works, O Lord!
Your [g](L)thoughts are very (M)deep.
6 A (N)senseless man has no knowledge,
Nor does a (O)stupid man understand this:
7 That when the wicked (P)sprouted up like grass
And all (Q)who did iniquity flourished,
It was only that they might be (R)destroyed forevermore.
8 But You, O Lord, are (S)on high forever.
9 For, behold, Your enemies, O Lord,
For, behold, (T)Your enemies will perish;
All who do iniquity will be (U)scattered.
10 But You have exalted my (V)horn like that of the wild ox;
I have [h]been (W)anointed with fresh oil.
11 And my eye has (X)looked exultantly upon [i]my foes,
My ears hear of the evildoers who rise up against me.
12 The (Y)righteous man will [j]flourish like the palm tree,
He will grow like a (Z)cedar in Lebanon.
13 (AA)Planted in the house of the Lord,
They will flourish (AB)in the courts of our God.
14 They will still [k](AC)yield fruit in old age;
They shall be [l]full of sap and very green,
15 To [m]declare that (AD)the Lord is upright;
He is my (AE)rock, and there is (AF)no unrighteousness in Him.
23 The desire of the righteous is only good,
But the (A)expectation of the wicked is wrath.
24 There is one who scatters, and yet increases all the more,
And there is one who withholds what is justly due, and yet it results only in want.
25 The [a](B)generous man will be [b]prosperous,
And he who (C)waters will himself be watered.
26 He who withholds grain, the (D)people will curse him,
But (E)blessing will be on the head of him who (F)sells it.
27 He who diligently seeks good seeks favor,
But (G)he who seeks evil, evil will come to him.
28 He who (H)trusts in his riches will fall,
But (I)the righteous will flourish like the green leaf.
29 He who (J)troubles his own house will (K)inherit wind,
And (L)the foolish will be servant to the wisehearted.
30 The fruit of the righteous is (M)a tree of life,
And (N)he who is wise [c]wins souls.
An Explanation
10 And the disciples came and said to Him, “Why do You speak to them in parables?” 11 [a]Jesus answered them, “(A)To you it has been granted to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been granted. 12 (B)For whoever has, to him more shall be given, and he will have an abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has shall be taken away from him. 13 Therefore I speak to them in parables; because while (C)seeing they do not see, and while hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand. 14 [b]In their case the prophecy of Isaiah is being fulfilled, which says,
‘[c](D)You will keep on hearing, [d]but will not understand;
[e]You will keep on seeing, but will not perceive;
15 (E)For the heart of this people has become dull,
With their ears they scarcely hear,
And they have closed their eyes,
Otherwise they would see with their eyes,
Hear with their ears,
And understand with their heart and return,
And I would heal them.’
16 (F)But blessed are your eyes, because they see; and your ears, because they hear. 17 For truly I say to you that (G)many prophets and righteous men desired to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it.
