Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
9 (A)Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion!
Shout in triumph, O daughter of Jerusalem!
Behold, your (B)king is coming to you;
He is [a](C)just and (D)endowed with salvation,
(E)Humble, and mounted on a donkey,
Even on a (F)colt, the [b]foal of a donkey.
10 I will (G)cut off the chariot from Ephraim
And the (H)horse from Jerusalem;
And the (I)bow of war will be cut off.
And He will speak (J)peace to the nations;
And His (K)dominion will be from sea to sea,
And from the [c]River to the ends of the earth.
Deliverance of Judah and Ephraim
8 The Lord is (A)gracious and merciful;
Slow to anger and great in lovingkindness.
9 The Lord is (B)good to all,
And His (C)mercies are over all His works.
10 (D)All Your works shall give thanks to You, O Lord,
And Your (E)godly ones shall bless You.
11 They shall speak of the (F)glory of Your kingdom
And talk of Your power;
12 To (G)make known to the sons of men [a]Your mighty acts
And the (H)glory of the majesty of [b]Your kingdom.
13 Your kingdom is [c]an (I)everlasting kingdom,
And Your dominion endures throughout all generations.
15 For what I am doing, (A)I do not understand; for I am not practicing (B)what I would like to do, but I am doing the very thing I hate. 16 But if I do the very thing I do not want to do, I agree with (C)the Law, confessing that the Law is good. 17 So now, (D)no longer am I the one doing it, but sin which dwells in me. 18 For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my (E)flesh; for the willing is present in me, but the doing of the good is not. 19 For (F)the good that I want, I do not do, but I practice the very evil that I do not want. 20 But if I am doing the very thing I do not want, (G)I am no longer the one doing it, but sin which dwells in me.
21 I find then (H)the [a]principle that evil is present in me, the one who wants to do good. 22 For I joyfully concur with the law of God [b]in (I)the inner man, 23 but I see (J)a different law in [c]the members of my body, waging war against the (K)law of my mind and making me a prisoner [d]of (L)the law of sin which is in my members. 24 Wretched man that I am! Who will set me free from [e](M)the body of this (N)death? 25 (O)Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, on the one hand I myself with my mind am serving the law of God, but on the other, with my flesh (P)the law of sin.
16 “But to what shall I compare this generation? It is like children sitting in the market places, who call out to the other children, 17 and say, ‘We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge, and you did not [a]mourn.’ 18 For John came neither (A)eating nor (B)drinking, and they say, ‘(C)He has a demon!’ 19 The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Behold, a gluttonous man and a [b]drunkard, (D)a friend of tax collectors and [c]sinners!’ Yet wisdom is vindicated by her deeds.”
Come to Me
25 (A)At that [a]time Jesus said, “I praise You, (B)Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that (C)You have hidden these things from the wise and intelligent and have revealed them to infants. 26 Yes, (D)Father, for this way was well-pleasing in Your sight. 27 (E)All things have been handed over to Me by My Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father; nor does anyone know the Father (F)except the Son, and anyone to whom the Son wills to reveal Him.
28 “(G)Come to Me, all [b]who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and (H)learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and (I)you will find rest for your souls. 30 For (J)My yoke is [c]easy and My burden is light.”
