29 1 The Prophet exhorteth the princes and rulers of the world (which for the most part think there is no God.) 3 At the least to fear him for the thunders and tempests, for fear whereof all creatures tremble. 11 And though thereby God threateneth sinners, yet he is always merciful to his, and moveth them thereby to praise his Name.
A Psalm of David.
1 Give unto the Lord, ye [a]sons of the mighty, give unto the Lord glory and strength.
2 Give unto the Lord glory due unto his Name: worship the Lord in the glorious Sanctuary.
3 The [b]voice of the Lord is upon the waters: the God of glory maketh it to thunder: the Lord is upon the great waters.
4 The voice of the Lord is mighty: the voice of the Lord is glorious.
5 The [c]voice of the Lord breaketh the cedars: yea, the Lord breaketh the cedars of Lebanon.
6 He maketh them also to leap like a calf: Lebanon also and [d]Shirion like a young unicorn.
7 The voice of the Lord divideth the [e]flames of fire.
8 The voice of the Lord maketh the wilderness to tremble: the Lord maketh the wilderness of [f]Kadesh to tremble.
9 The voice of the Lord maketh the hinds to [g]calve, and [h]discovereth the forests: therefore in his [i]Temple doth every man speak of his glory.
10 The Lord sitteth upon the [j]floods, and the Lord doth remain King forever.
11 The Lord shall give strength unto his people: the Lord shall bless his people with peace.
3 ¶ Then Samuel spake unto all the house of Israel, saying, If ye be come again unto the Lord with all your heart, (A)put away the strange gods from among you, and (B)Ashtoreth, and direct your hearts unto the Lord, and serve him (C)only, and he shall deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines.
4 Then the children of Israel did put away (D)Baal and Ashtoreth, and served the Lord only.
5 And Samuel said, Gather all Israel to [a]Mizpah, and I will pray for you unto the Lord.
6 And they gathered together to Mizpah, and [b]drew water, and poured it out before the Lord, and fasted the same day, and said there, We have sinned against the Lord. And Samuel judged the children of Israel in Mizpah.
7 When the Philistines heard that the children of Israel were gathered together to Mizpah, the Princes of the Philistines went up against Israel: and when the children of Israel heard that, they were afraid of the Philistines.
8 And the children of Israel said to Samuel, Cease not to [c]cry unto the Lord our God for us, that he may save us out of the hand of the Philistines.
9 Then Samuel took a sucking lamb, and offered it all together for a burnt offering unto the Lord, and Samuel cried unto the Lord for Israel, and the Lord heard him.
10 And [as] Samuel offered the burnt offering, the Philistines came to fight against Israel: but the Lord [d]thundered with a great thunder that day upon the Philistines, and scattered them: so they were slain before Israel.
11 And the men of Israel went from Mizpah, and pursued the Philistines, and smote them until they came under Beth Car.
12 Then Samuel took a stone, and pitched it between Mizpah and [e]Shen, and called the name thereof Ebenezer, and he said, Hitherto hath the Lord helped us.
13 ¶ So the Philistines were brought under, and they came no more again into the coasts of Israel: and the hand of the Lord was against the Philistines all the days of Samuel.
14 Also the cities which the Philistines had taken from Israel, were restored to Israel, from Ekron even to Gath: and Israel delivered the coasts of the same out of the hands of the Philistines: and there was peace between Israel and the [f]Amorites.
15 And Samuel judged Israel all the days of his life,
16 And went about year by year to Bethel, and Gilgal, and Mizpah, and judged Israel in all those places.
17 Afterward he returned to Ramah: for there was his house, and there he judged Israel: also he built an [g]altar there unto the Lord.
19 And received meat, and was strengthened. So was Saul certain days with the disciples which were at Damascus.
20 [a]And straightway he preached Christ in the Synagogues, that he was that Son of God.
21 So that all that heard him were amazed, and said, Is not this he, that made havoc of them which called on this Name in Jerusalem, and came hither for that intent, that he should bring them bound unto the high Priests?
22 [b]But Saul increased the more in strength, and confounded the Jews which dwelt at Damascus, [c]confirming that this was that Christ.
23 [d]And after that many days were fulfilled, the Jews took counsel to kill him,
24 But their laying await was known of Saul: now they (A)watched the gates day and night, that they might kill him.
25 [e]Then the disciples took him by night, and put him through the wall, and let him down by a rope in a basket.
26 [f]And when Saul was come to Jerusalem, he assayed to join himself with the disciples: but they were all afraid of him, and believed not that he was a disciple.
27 But Barnabas took him, and brought him to the Apostles, and declared to them, how he had seen the Lord in the way, and that he had spoken unto him, and how he had spoken boldly at Damascus in the Name of Jesus.
28 [g]And he was conversant [h]with them at Jerusalem,
29 And spake boldly in the Name of the Lord Jesus, and spake and disputed against the [i]Grecians: but they went about to slay him.
30 [j]But when the brethren knew it, they brought him to Caesarea, and sent him forth to Tarsus.
31 [k]Then had the Churches rest through all Judea, and Galilee, and Samaria, and were [l]edified, and walked in the fear of the Lord, and were multiplied by the comfort of the holy Ghost.
