M’Cheyne Bible Reading Plan
20 “(A)The Lord will send upon you curses, confusion, and (B)rebuke, in all [a]you undertake to do, until you are destroyed and until (C)you perish quickly, on account of the evil of your deeds, because you have forsaken Me. 21 (D)The Lord will make the pestilence cling to you until He has consumed you from the land where you are entering to possess it. 22 (E)The Lord will smite you with consumption and with fever and with inflammation and with fiery heat and with [b]the sword and (F)with blight and with mildew, and they will pursue you until (G)you perish. 23 [c]The heaven which is over your head shall be bronze, and the earth which is under you, iron. 24 (H)The Lord will make the rain of your land powder and dust; from heaven it shall come down on you until you are destroyed.
25 “(I)The Lord shall cause you to be [d]defeated before your enemies; you will go out one way against them, but you will flee seven ways before them, and you will (J)be an example of terror to all the kingdoms of the earth. 26 (K)Your carcasses will be food to all birds of the sky and to the beasts of the earth, and there will be no one to frighten them away.
27 “(L)The Lord will smite you with the boils of Egypt and with (M)tumors and with the scab and with the itch, from which you cannot be healed. 28 The Lord will smite you with madness and with blindness and with bewilderment of heart; 29 and you will [e](N)grope at noon, as the blind man gropes in darkness, and you will not prosper in your ways; but you shall only be oppressed and robbed continually, with none to save you. 30 (O)You shall betroth a wife, but another man will violate her; (P)you shall build a house, but you will not live in it; you shall plant a vineyard, but you will not [f]use its fruit. 31 Your ox shall be slaughtered before your eyes, but you will not eat of it; your donkey shall be torn away from you, and will not be restored to you; your sheep shall be given to your enemies, and you will have none to save you. 32 (Q)Your sons and your daughters shall be given to another people, while your eyes look on and yearn for them continually; but there will be nothing [g]you can do. 33 (R)A people whom you do not know shall eat up the produce of your ground and all your labors, and you will never be anything but oppressed and crushed continually. 34 You shall be driven mad by the sight of [h]what you see. 35 (S)The Lord will strike you on the knees and legs with sore boils, from which you cannot be healed, from the sole of your foot to the crown of your head. 36 (T)The Lord will bring you and your king, whom you set over you, to a nation which neither you nor your fathers have known, and there you shall serve other gods, (U)wood and stone. 37 (V)You shall become a horror, a proverb, and a taunt among all the people where the Lord drives you.
38 “(W)You shall bring out much seed to the field but you will gather in little, for (X)the locust will consume it. 39 (Y)You shall plant and cultivate vineyards, but you will neither drink of the wine nor gather the grapes, for the worm will devour them. 40 (Z)You shall have olive trees throughout your territory but you will not anoint yourself with the oil, for your olives will drop off. 41 (AA)You shall [i]have sons and daughters but they will not be yours, for they will go into captivity. 42 (AB)The cricket shall possess all your trees and the produce of your ground. 43 (AC)The alien who is among you shall rise above you higher and higher, but you will go down lower and lower. 44 (AD)He shall lend to you, but you will not lend to him; (AE)he shall be the head, and you will be the tail.
45 “So all these curses shall come on you and pursue you and overtake you (AF)until you are destroyed, because you would not [j]obey the Lord your God by keeping His commandments and His statutes which He commanded you. 46 They shall become (AG)a sign and a wonder on you and your [k]descendants forever.
47 “(AH)Because you did not serve the Lord your God with joy and a glad heart, for the abundance of all things; 48 therefore you shall serve your enemies whom the Lord will send against you, (AI)in hunger, in thirst, in nakedness, and in the lack of all things; and He (AJ)will put an iron yoke on your neck until He has destroyed you.
49 “(AK)The Lord will bring a nation against you from afar, from the end of the earth, (AL)as the eagle swoops down, a nation whose language you shall not understand, 50 a nation of fierce countenance who will (AM)have no respect for the old, nor show favor to the young. 51 Moreover, it shall eat the [l]offspring of your herd and the produce of your ground until you are destroyed, who also leaves you no grain, new wine, or oil, nor the increase of your herd or the young of your flock until they have caused you to perish. 52 (AN)It shall besiege you in all your [m]towns until your high and fortified walls in which you trusted come down throughout your land, and it shall besiege you in all your [n]towns throughout your land which the Lord your God has given you. 53 (AO)Then you shall eat the [o]offspring of your own body, the flesh of your sons and of your daughters whom the Lord your God has given you, during the siege and the distress by which your enemy will [p]oppress you. 54 The man who is [q]refined and very delicate among you [r]shall be hostile toward his brother and toward the wife [s]he cherishes and toward the rest of his children who remain, 55 so that he will not give even one of them any of the flesh of his children which he will eat, since he has nothing else left, during the siege and the distress by which your enemy will [t]oppress you in all your [u]towns. 56 (AP)The [v]refined and delicate woman among you, who would not venture to set the sole of her foot on the ground for delicateness and [w]refinement, [x]shall be hostile toward the husband [y]she cherishes and toward her son and daughter, 57 and toward her afterbirth which issues from between her [z]legs and toward her children whom she bears; for (AQ)she will eat them secretly for lack of anything else, during the siege and the distress by which your enemy will [aa]oppress you in your [ab]towns.
58 “If you are not careful to observe all the words of this law which are written in this book, to [ac](AR)fear this honored and awesome (AS)name, [ad]the Lord your God, 59 then the Lord will bring extraordinary plagues on you and [ae]your descendants, even [af]severe and lasting plagues, and miserable and chronic sicknesses. 60 (AT)He will bring back on you all the diseases of Egypt of which you were afraid, and they will cling to you. 61 Also every sickness and every plague which, not written in the book of this law, the Lord will bring on you (AU)until you are destroyed. 62 Then you shall be left few in number, (AV)whereas you were as numerous as the stars of heaven, because you did not [ag]obey the Lord your God. 63 It shall come about that as the Lord (AW)delighted over you to prosper you, and multiply you, so the Lord will (AX)delight over you to make you perish and destroy you; and you will be (AY)torn from the land where you are entering to possess it. 64 Moreover, the Lord will (AZ)scatter you among all peoples, from one end of the earth to the other end of the earth; and there you shall (BA)serve other gods, wood and stone, which you or your fathers have not known. 65 (BB)Among those nations you shall find no rest, and there will be no resting place for the sole of your foot; but there (BC)the Lord will give you a trembling heart, failing of eyes, and despair of soul. 66 So your life shall [ah]hang in doubt before you; and you will be in dread night and day, and shall have no assurance of your life. 67 (BD)In the morning you shall say, ‘Would that it were evening!’ And at evening you shall say, ‘Would that it were morning!’ because of the dread of your heart which you dread, and for the sight of your eyes which you will see. 68 The Lord will bring you back to Egypt in ships, by the way about which I spoke to you, ‘You will never see it again!’ And there you will offer yourselves for sale to your enemies as male and female slaves, but there will be no buyer.”
Daleth.
25 My (A)soul cleaves to the dust;
(B)Revive me (C)according to Your word.
26 I have told of my ways, and You have answered me;
(D)Teach me Your statutes.
27 Make me understand the way of Your precepts,
So I will (E)meditate on Your wonders.
28 My (F)soul [a]weeps because of grief;
(G)Strengthen me according to Your word.
29 Remove the false way from me,
And graciously grant me Your law.
30 I have chosen the faithful way;
I have [b]placed Your ordinances before me.
31 I (H)cling to Your testimonies;
O Lord, do not put me to shame!
32 I shall run the way of Your commandments,
For You will (I)enlarge my heart.
He.
33 (J)Teach me, O Lord, the way of Your statutes,
And I shall observe it to the end.
34 (K)Give me understanding, that I may (L)observe Your law
And keep it (M)with all my heart.
35 Make me walk in the (N)path of Your commandments,
For I (O)delight in it.
36 (P)Incline my heart to Your testimonies
And not to (Q)dishonest gain.
37 Turn away my (R)eyes from looking at vanity,
And (S)revive me in Your ways.
38 (T)Establish Your [c]word to Your servant,
[d]As that which produces reverence for You.
39 (U)Turn away my reproach which I dread,
For Your ordinances are good.
40 Behold, I (V)long for Your precepts;
Revive me through Your righteousness.
Vav.
41 May Your (W)lovingkindnesses also come to me, O Lord,
Your salvation (X)according to Your [e]word;
42 So I will have an (Y)answer for him who (Z)reproaches me,
For I trust in Your word.
43 And do not take the word of truth utterly out of my mouth,
For I [f](AA)wait for Your ordinances.
44 So I will (AB)keep Your law continually,
Forever and ever.
45 And I will (AC)walk [g]at liberty,
For I (AD)seek Your precepts.
46 I will also speak of Your testimonies (AE)before kings
And shall not be ashamed.
47 I shall [h](AF)delight in Your commandments,
Which I (AG)love.
48 And I shall lift up my hands to Your commandments,
Which I (AH)love;
And I will (AI)meditate on Your statutes.
The Free Offer of Mercy
55 “Ho! Every one who (A)thirsts, come to the waters;
And you who have (B)no [a]money come, buy and eat.
Come, buy (C)wine and milk
(D)Without money and without cost.
2 “Why do you [b]spend money for what is (E)not bread,
And your wages for what does not satisfy?
Listen carefully to Me, and (F)eat what is good,
And (G)delight yourself in abundance.
3 “(H)Incline your ear and come to Me.
Listen, that [c]you may (I)live;
And I will make (J)an everlasting covenant with you,
According to the (K)faithful mercies [d]shown to David.
4 “Behold, I have made (L)him a witness to the peoples,
A (M)leader and commander for the peoples.
5 “Behold, you will call a (N)nation you do not know,
And a nation which knows you not will (O)run to you,
Because of the Lord your God, even the Holy One of Israel;
For He has (P)glorified you.”
6 (Q)Seek the Lord while He may be found;
(R)Call upon Him while He is near.
7 (S)Let the wicked forsake his way
And the unrighteous man his (T)thoughts;
And let him (U)return to the Lord,
And He will have (V)compassion on him,
And to our God,
For He will (W)abundantly pardon.
8 “For My thoughts are not (X)your thoughts,
Nor are (Y)your ways My ways,” declares the Lord.
9 “For (Z)as the heavens are higher than the earth,
So are My ways higher than your ways
And My thoughts than your thoughts.
10 “For as the (AA)rain and the snow come down from heaven,
And do not return there without watering the earth
And making it bear and sprout,
And furnishing (AB)seed to the sower and bread to the eater;
11 So will My (AC)word be which goes forth from My mouth;
It will (AD)not return to Me empty,
Without (AE)accomplishing what I desire,
And without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it.
12 “For you will go out with (AF)joy
And be led forth with (AG)peace;
The (AH)mountains and the hills will break forth into shouts of joy before you,
And all the (AI)trees of the field will clap their hands.
13 “Instead of the (AJ)thorn bush the (AK)cypress will come up,
And instead of the (AL)nettle the myrtle will come up,
And [e]it will be a [f](AM)memorial to the Lord,
For an everlasting (AN)sign which (AO)will not be cut off.”
The Preaching of John the Baptist
3 Now (A)in those days (B)John the Baptist *[a]came, [b]preaching in the (C)wilderness of Judea, saying, 2 “(D)Repent, for (E)the kingdom of heaven [c]is at hand.” 3 For this is the (F)one referred to [d]by Isaiah the prophet when he said,
“(G)The voice of one [e]crying in the wilderness,
‘(H)Make ready the way of the Lord,
Make His paths straight!’”
4 Now John himself had [f](I)a garment of camel’s hair and a leather belt around his waist; and his food was (J)locusts and wild honey. 5 Then Jerusalem (K)was going out to him, and all Judea and all (L)the district around the Jordan; 6 and they were being (M)baptized by him in the Jordan River, as they confessed their sins.
7 But when he saw many of the (N)Pharisees and (O)Sadducees coming for baptism, he said to them, “You (P)brood of vipers, who warned you to flee from (Q)the wrath to come? 8 (R)Therefore bear fruit (S)in keeping with repentance; 9 and do not suppose that you can say to yourselves, ‘(T)We have Abraham for our father’; for I say to you that from these stones God is able to raise up children to Abraham. 10 The (U)axe is already laid at the root of the trees; therefore (V)every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
11 “As for me, (W)I baptize you [g]with water for repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, and I am not fit to remove His sandals; (X)He will baptize you [h]with the Holy Spirit and fire. 12 His (Y)winnowing fork is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clear His threshing floor; and He will (Z)gather His wheat into the barn, but He will burn up the (AA)chaff with (AB)unquenchable fire.”
The Baptism of Jesus
13 (AC)Then Jesus *arrived (AD)from Galilee at the Jordan coming to John, to be baptized by him. 14 But John tried to prevent Him, saying, “I have need to be baptized by You, and do You come to me?” 15 But Jesus answering said to him, “Permit it at this time; for in this way it is fitting for us (AE)to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he *permitted Him. 16 After being baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened, and [i](AF)he saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove and [j]lighting on Him, 17 and behold, a voice out of the heavens said, “(AG)This is [k]My beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased.”
