Deuteronomy 33-34

The Blessing of Moses

33 Now this is the blessing with which Moses (A)the man of God blessed the sons of Israel before his death. He said,

(B)The Lord came from Sinai,
(C)And [a]dawned on them from Seir;
(D)He shone forth from Mount Paran,
And He came from (E)the [b]midst of ten thousand holy ones;
(F)At His right hand there was [c]flashing lightning for them.
(G)Indeed, He loves [d]the people;
(H)All [e]Your holy ones are in Your hand,
(I)And they [f]followed in Your steps;
Everyone receives of Your words.
(J)Moses charged us with a law,
(K)A possession for the assembly of Jacob.
(L)And He was king in Jeshurun,
When the heads of the people were gathered,
The tribes of Israel together.

(M)May Reuben live and not die,
Nor his men be few.”

(N)And this regarding Judah; so he said,

“Hear, O Lord, the voice of Judah,
And bring him to his people.
With his hands he contended for [g]them,
And may You be a help against his adversaries.”

Of Levi he said,

Let Your (O)Thummim and Your Urim belong to [h]Your (P)godly man,
(Q)Whom You proved at Massah,
With whom You contended at the waters of Meribah;
(R)Who said of his father and his mother,
‘I did not consider them’;
And he did not acknowledge his brothers,
Nor did he regard his own sons,
For (S)they observed Your word,
And kept Your covenant.
10 (T)They shall teach Your ordinances to Jacob,
And Your law to Israel.
(U)They shall put incense [i]before You,
And (V)whole burnt offerings on Your altar.
11 “O Lord, bless his substance,
And accept the work of his hands;
Shatter the loins of those who rise up against him,
And those who hate him, so that they will not rise again.”

12 Of Benjamin he said,

(W)May the beloved of the Lord dwell in security by Him,
(X)Who shields him all the day,
(Y)And he dwells between His shoulders.”

13 Of Joseph he said,

(Z)Blessed of the Lord be his land,
With the choice things of heaven, with the dew,
And from the deep lying beneath,
14 And with the choice yield of the sun,
And with the choice produce of the months.
15 “And with the [j]best things of (AA)the ancient mountains,
And with the choice things of the everlasting hills,
16 And with the choice things of the earth and its fullness,
And the favor (AB)of Him who dwelt in the bush.
Let it come to the head of Joseph,
And to the crown of the head of the one distinguished among his brothers.
17 “As the firstborn of his ox, majesty is his,
And his horns are the horns of (AC)the wild ox;
With them he will (AD)push the peoples,
All [k]at once, to the ends of the earth.
And those are the ten thousands of Ephraim,
And those are the thousands of Manasseh.”

18 (AE)Of Zebulun he said,

“Rejoice, Zebulun, in your going forth,
And, Issachar, in your tents.
19 (AF)They will call peoples to the mountain;
There they will offer (AG)righteous sacrifices;
For they will [l]draw out (AH)the abundance of the seas,
And the hidden treasures of the sand.”

20 (AI)Of Gad he said,

“Blessed is the one who enlarges Gad;
He lies down (AJ)as a [m]lion,
And tears the arm, also the crown of the head.
21 (AK)Then he [n]provided the first part for himself,
(AL)For there the ruler’s portion was [o]reserved;
(AM)And he came with the leaders of the people;
(AN)He executed the justice of the Lord,
And His ordinances with Israel.”

22 (AO)Of Dan he said,

“Dan is (AP)a lion’s whelp,
That leaps forth from Bashan.”

23 Of Naphtali he said,

(AQ)O Naphtali, satisfied with favor,
And full of the blessing of the Lord,
Take possession of the sea and the south.”

24 (AR)Of Asher he said,

“More blessed than sons is Asher;
May he be favored by his brothers,
(AS)And may he dip his foot in oil.
25 (AT)Your locks will be iron and bronze,
(AU)And according to your days, so will your leisurely walk be.

26 (AV)There is none like the God of [p]Jeshurun,
(AW)Who rides the heavens [q]to your help,
And through the skies in His majesty.
27 (AX)The eternal God is a [r]dwelling place,
(AY)And underneath are the everlasting arms;
(AZ)And He drove out the enemy from before you,
(BA)And said, ‘Destroy!’
28 (BB)So Israel dwells in security,
(BC)The fountain of Jacob secluded,
(BD)In a land of grain and new wine;
(BE)His heavens also drop down dew.
29 (BF)Blessed are you, O Israel;
(BG)Who is like you, a people saved by the Lord,
(BH)Who is the shield of your help
(BI)And the sword of your majesty!
(BJ)So your enemies will cringe before you,
(BK)And you will tread upon their high places.”

The Death of Moses

34 (BL)Now Moses went up from the plains of Moab to Mount Nebo, to the top of Pisgah, which is opposite Jericho. And the Lord (BM)showed him all the land, Gilead as far as Dan, and all Naphtali and the land of Ephraim and Manasseh, and all the land of Judah as far as the [s](BN)western sea, and the [t]Negev and the plain in the valley of Jericho, (BO)the city of palm trees, as far as Zoar. Then the Lord said to him, “This is the land which (BP)I swore to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, saying, ‘I will give it to your [u]descendants’; I have let you see it with your eyes, but you shall not go over there.” So Moses (BQ)the servant of the Lord (BR)died there in the land of Moab, according to the [v]word of the Lord. And He buried him in the valley in the land of Moab, (BS)opposite Beth-peor; but (BT)no man knows his burial place to this day. Although Moses was (BU)one hundred and twenty years old when he died, (BV)his eye was not dim, nor his vigor abated. So the sons of Israel wept for Moses in the plains of Moab thirty days; then the days of weeping and mourning for Moses came to an end.

Now Joshua the son of Nun was (BW)filled with the spirit of wisdom, for Moses had laid his hands on him; and the sons of Israel listened to him and did as the Lord had commanded Moses. 10 Since that time (BX)no prophet has risen in Israel like Moses, whom (BY)the Lord knew face to face, 11 for all the signs and wonders which the Lord sent him to perform in the land of Egypt against Pharaoh, all his servants, and all his land, 12 and for all the mighty [w]power and for all the great terror which Moses performed in the sight of all Israel.

Psalm 119:145-176

Qoph.

145 I cried (A)with all my heart; answer me, O Lord!
I will (B)observe Your statutes.
146 I cried to You; (C)save me
And I shall keep Your testimonies.
147 I [a](D)rise before dawn and cry for help;
I [b]wait for Your words.
148 My eyes anticipate the (E)night watches,
That I may (F)meditate on Your [c]word.
149 Hear my voice (G)according to Your lovingkindness;
(H)Revive me, O Lord, according to Your ordinances.
150 Those who follow after wickedness draw near;
They are far from Your law.
151 You are (I)near, O Lord,
And all Your commandments are (J)truth.
152 Of old I have (K)known from Your testimonies
That You have founded them (L)forever.

Resh.

153 (M)Look upon my (N)affliction and rescue me,
For I do not (O)forget Your law.
154 (P)Plead my cause and (Q)redeem me;
Revive me according to Your [d]word.
155 Salvation is (R)far from the wicked,
For they (S)do not seek Your statutes.
156 [e](T)Great are Your mercies, O Lord;
Revive me according to Your ordinances.
157 Many are my (U)persecutors and my adversaries,
Yet I do not (V)turn aside from Your testimonies.
158 I behold the (W)treacherous and (X)loathe them,
Because they do not keep Your [f]word.
159 Consider how I (Y)love Your precepts;
(Z)Revive me, O Lord, according to Your lovingkindness.
160 The (AA)sum of Your word is (AB)truth,
And every one of Your righteous ordinances (AC)is everlasting.

Shin.

161 (AD)Princes persecute me without cause,
But my heart (AE)stands in awe of Your words.
162 I (AF)rejoice at Your [g]word,
As one who (AG)finds great spoil.
163 I (AH)hate and despise falsehood,
But I (AI)love Your law.
164 Seven times a day I praise You,
Because of Your (AJ)righteous ordinances.
165 Those who love Your law have (AK)great peace,
And [h](AL)nothing causes them to stumble.
166 I (AM)hope for Your salvation, O Lord,
And do Your commandments.
167 My (AN)soul keeps Your testimonies,
And I (AO)love them exceedingly.
168 I (AP)keep Your precepts and Your testimonies,
For all my (AQ)ways are before You.

Tav.

169 Let my (AR)cry [i]come before You, O Lord;
(AS)Give me understanding (AT)according to Your word.
170 Let my (AU)supplication come before You;
(AV)Deliver me according to Your [j]word.
171 Let my (AW)lips utter praise,
For You (AX)teach me Your statutes.
172 Let my (AY)tongue sing of Your [k]word,
For all Your (AZ)commandments are righteousness.
173 Let Your (BA)hand be [l]ready to help me,
For I have (BB)chosen Your precepts.
174 I (BC)long for Your salvation, O Lord,
And Your law is my (BD)delight.
175 Let my (BE)soul live that it may praise You,
And let Your ordinances help me.
176 I have (BF)gone astray like a lost sheep; seek Your servant,
For I do (BG)not forget Your commandments.

Isaiah 60

A Glorified Zion

60 (A)Arise, shine; for your (B)light has come,
And the (C)glory of the Lord has risen upon you.
“For behold, (D)darkness will cover the earth
And deep darkness the peoples;
But the Lord will rise upon you
And His (E)glory will appear upon you.
(F)Nations will come to your light,
And kings to the brightness of your rising.

(G)Lift up your eyes round about and see;
They all gather together, they (H)come to you.
Your sons will come from afar,
And your (I)daughters will be [a]carried in the arms.
“Then you will see and be (J)radiant,
And your heart will [b]thrill and rejoice;
Because the (K)abundance of the sea will be turned to you,
The (L)wealth of the nations will come to you.
“A multitude of camels will cover you,
The young camels of Midian and (M)Ephah;
All those from (N)Sheba will come;
They will bring (O)gold and frankincense,
And will (P)bear good news of the praises of the Lord.
“All the flocks of (Q)Kedar will be gathered together to you,
The rams of Nebaioth will minister to you;
They will go up with acceptance on My (R)altar,
And I shall [c](S)glorify My [d]glorious house.
(T)Who are these who fly like a cloud
And like the doves to their [e]lattices?
“Surely the (U)coastlands will wait for Me;
And the (V)ships of Tarshish will come first,
To (W)bring your sons from afar,
Their silver and their gold with them,
For the name of the Lord your God,
And for the Holy One of Israel because He has [f](X)glorified you.

10 (Y)Foreigners will build up your walls,
And their (Z)kings will minister to you;
For in My (AA)wrath I struck you,
And in My favor I have had compassion on you.
11 “Your (AB)gates will be open continually;
They will not be closed day or night,
So that men may (AC)bring to you the wealth of the nations,
With (AD)their kings led in procession.
12 “For the (AE)nation and the kingdom which will not serve you will perish,
And the nations will be utterly ruined.
13 “The (AF)glory of Lebanon will come to you,
The (AG)juniper, the box tree and the cypress together,
To beautify the place of My sanctuary;
And I shall make the (AH)place of My feet glorious.
14 “The (AI)sons of those who afflicted you will come bowing to you,
And all those who despised you will bow themselves at the soles of your feet;
And they will call you the (AJ)city of the Lord,
The (AK)Zion of the Holy One of Israel.

15 “Whereas you have been (AL)forsaken and (AM)hated
With no one passing through,
I will make you an everlasting (AN)pride,
A joy from generation to generation.
16 “You will also (AO)suck the milk of nations
And suck the breast of kings;
Then you will know that I, the Lord, am your (AP)Savior
And your (AQ)Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.
17 “Instead of bronze I will bring gold,
And instead of iron I will bring silver,
And instead of wood, bronze,
And instead of stones, iron.
And I will make peace your administrators
And righteousness your overseers.
18 (AR)Violence will not be heard again in your land,
Nor (AS)devastation or destruction within your borders;
But you will call your (AT)walls salvation, and your (AU)gates praise.
19 “No longer will you have the (AV)sun for light by day,
Nor for brightness will the moon give you light;
But you will have the (AW)Lord for an everlasting light,
And your (AX)God for your [g]glory.
20 “Your (AY)sun will no longer set,
Nor will your moon wane;
For you will have the Lord for an everlasting light,
And the days of your (AZ)mourning will be over.
21 “Then all your (BA)people will be righteous;
They will (BB)possess the land forever,
The branch of [h]My planting,
The (BC)work of My hands,
That I may be (BD)glorified.
22 “The (BE)smallest one will become a [i]clan,
And the least one a mighty nation.
I, the Lord, will hasten it in its time.”

Matthew 8

Jesus Cleanses a Leper; The Centurion’s Faith

When [a]Jesus came down from the mountain, [b]large crowds followed Him. And (A)a leper came to Him and [c](B)bowed down before Him, and said, “Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.” Jesus stretched out His hand and touched him, saying, “I am willing; be cleansed.” And immediately his (C)leprosy was cleansed. And Jesus *said to him, (D)See that you tell no one; but (E)go, (F)show yourself to the priest and present the [d]offering that Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.”

And (G)when [e]Jesus entered Capernaum, a centurion came to Him, imploring Him, and saying, “[f]Lord, my [g]servant is [h]lying (H)paralyzed at home, fearfully tormented.” Jesus *said to him, “I will come and heal him.” But the centurion said, “[i]Lord, I am not worthy for You to come under my roof, but just [j]say the word, and my [k]servant will be healed. For I also am a man under (I)authority, with soldiers under me; and I say to this one, ‘Go!’ and he goes, and to another, ‘Come!’ and he comes, and to my slave, ‘Do this!’ and he does it.” 10 Now when Jesus heard this, He marveled and said to those who were following, “Truly I say to you, I have not found such great faith [l]with anyone in Israel. 11 I say to you that many (J)will come from east and west, and [m]recline at the table with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven; 12 but (K)the sons of the kingdom will be cast out into (L)the outer darkness; in that place (M)there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” 13 And Jesus said to the centurion, “Go; [n]it shall be done for you (N)as you have believed.” And the [o]servant was healed that very [p]moment.

Peter’s Mother-in-law and Many Others Healed

14 (O)When Jesus came into Peter’s [q]home, He saw his mother-in-law lying sick in bed with a fever. 15 He touched her hand, and the fever left her; and she got up and [r]waited on Him. 16 When evening came, they brought to Him many (P)who were demon-possessed; and He cast out the spirits with a word, and (Q)healed all who were ill. 17 This was to fulfill what was spoken through Isaiah the prophet: “(R)He Himself took our infirmities and [s]carried away our diseases.”

Discipleship Tested

18 Now when Jesus saw a crowd around Him, (S)He gave orders to depart to the other side of the sea. 19 (T)Then a scribe came and said to Him, “Teacher, I will follow You wherever You go.” 20 Jesus *said to him, “The foxes have holes and the birds of the [t]air have [u]nests, but (U)the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.” 21 Another of the disciples said to Him, “Lord, permit me first to go and bury my father.” 22 But Jesus *said to him, (V)Follow Me, and allow the dead to bury their own dead.”

23 (W)When He got into the boat, His disciples followed Him. 24 And behold, there arose [v]a great storm on the sea, so that the boat was being covered with the waves; but Jesus Himself was asleep. 25 And they came to Him and woke Him, saying, “(X)Save us, Lord; we are perishing!” 26 He *said to them, “Why are you [w]afraid, (Y)you men of little faith?” Then He got up and rebuked the winds and the sea, and [x]it became perfectly calm. 27 The men were amazed, and said, “What kind of a man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?”

Jesus Casts Out Demons

28 (Z)When He came to the other side into the country of the Gadarenes, two men who were (AA)demon-possessed met Him as they were coming out of the tombs. They were so extremely violent that no one could pass by that way. 29 And they cried out, saying, “[y](AB)What business do we have with each other, Son of God? Have You come here to torment us before [z]the time?” 30 Now there was a herd of many swine feeding at a distance from them. 31 The demons began to entreat Him, saying, “If You are going to cast us out, send us into the herd of swine.” 32 And He said to them, “Go!” And they came out and went into the swine, and the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea and perished in the waters. 33 The herdsmen ran away, and went to the city and reported everything, [aa]including what had happened to the (AC)demoniacs. 34 And behold, the whole city came out to meet Jesus; and when they saw Him, (AD)they implored Him to leave their region.
