Chronological
The Seven Seals
6 Then I looked when the (A)Lamb opened one of the (B)seven seals, and I heard one of the (C)four living creatures saying as with a (D)voice of thunder, “[a]Come.” 2 Then I looked, and behold, a (E)white horse, and he who sits on it had a bow; and (F)a crown was given to him, and he went out (G)overcoming and to overcome.
3 And when He opened the second seal, I heard the (H)second living creature saying, “Come.” 4 And another, (I)a red horse, went out; and to him who sits on it, it was given to him to (J)take peace from the earth, and that men would slay one another; and a great sword was given to him.
5 And when He opened the third seal, I heard the (K)third living creature saying, “Come.” Then I looked, and behold, a (L)black horse; and he who sits on it had a (M)pair of scales in his hand. 6 And I heard something like a voice in the midst of the (N)four living creatures saying, “One [b]choinix of wheat for one [c]denarius, and three [d]choinix of barley for one [e]denarius, and (O)do not harm the oil and the wine.”
7 And when He opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the (P)fourth living creature saying, “Come.” 8 Then I looked, and behold, a (Q)pale horse; and he who sits on it had the name (R)Death, and (S)Hades was following with him. Authority was given to them over a fourth of the earth, (T)to kill with sword and with famine and with [f]pestilence and by the wild beasts of the earth.
9 And when He opened the fifth seal, I saw (U)underneath the (V)altar the (W)souls of those who had been slain (X)because of the word of God, and because of the (Y)witness which they had maintained; 10 and they cried out with a loud voice, saying, “(Z)How long, O (AA)Master, (AB)holy and true? [g]Will You not (AC)judge and avenge our blood on (AD)those who dwell on the earth?” 11 And (AE)a white robe was given to each of them; and it was told to them that they should (AF)rest for a little while longer, (AG)until the number of their fellow slaves and their brothers who were to be killed even as they had been, would be (AH)completed also.
12 Then I looked when He opened the sixth seal, and there was a great (AI)earthquake; and the (AJ)sun became black as (AK)sackcloth made of hair, and the whole moon became like blood; 13 and (AL)the stars of the sky fell to the earth, (AM)as a fig tree casts its unripe figs when shaken by a great wind. 14 (AN)And the sky was split apart like a scroll when it is rolled up, and (AO)every mountain and island were moved out of their places. 15 Then (AP)the kings of the earth and the great men and the [h]commanders and the rich and the strong and every slave and free man (AQ)hid themselves in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains; 16 and they *(AR)said to the mountains and to the rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the [i]presence of Him (AS)who sits on the throne, and from the [j](AT)wrath of the Lamb, 17 for (AU)the great (AV)day of their [k]wrath has come, and (AW)who is able to stand?”
The 144,000
7 After this I saw (AX)four angels standing at the (AY)four corners of the earth, holding back (AZ)the four winds of the earth, (BA)so that no wind would blow on the earth or on the sea or on any tree. 2 Then I saw another angel ascending (BB)from the rising of the sun, having the (BC)seal of (BD)the living God; and he cried out with a loud voice to the (BE)four angels to whom it was granted to harm the earth and the sea, 3 saying, “(BF)Do not harm the earth or the sea or the trees until we have (BG)sealed the slaves of our God on their (BH)foreheads.”
4 And I heard the (BI)number of those having been sealed, (BJ)144,000 sealed from every tribe of the sons of Israel:
5 from the tribe of Judah, 12,000 having been sealed,
from the tribe of Reuben 12,000,
from the tribe of Gad 12,000,
6 from the tribe of Asher 12,000,
from the tribe of Naphtali 12,000,
from the tribe of Manasseh 12,000,
7 from the tribe of Simeon 12,000,
from the tribe of Levi 12,000,
from the tribe of Issachar 12,000,
8 from the tribe of Zebulun 12,000,
from the tribe of Joseph 12,000,
from the tribe of Benjamin, 12,000 having been sealed.
A Multitude from Every Nation
9 After these things I looked, and behold, a great [l]multitude which no one could count, from (BK)every nation and all tribes and peoples and tongues, standing (BL)before the throne and (BM)before the Lamb, clothed in (BN)white robes, and (BO)palm branches were in their hands; 10 and they cry out with a loud voice, saying,
“(BP)Salvation belongs to our God (BQ)who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb.” 11 And all the angels were standing (BR)around the throne and (BS)the elders and the (BT)four living creatures, and they (BU)fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, 12 saying,
“(BV)Amen, (BW)the blessing and the glory and the wisdom and the thanksgiving and the honor and the power and the strength, be to our God forever and ever. (BX)Amen.”
13 Then one of the elders (BY)answered, saying to me, “These, clothed in the (BZ)white robes, who are they, and from where have they come?” 14 And I [m]said to him, “My lord, you know.” And he said to me, “These are the ones who come out of the (CA)great tribulation, and they (CB)washed their robes and made them (CC)white in the (CD)blood of the Lamb. 15 For this reason, they are (CE)before the throne of God; and they (CF)serve Him day and night in His [n](CG)sanctuary; and (CH)He who sits on the throne will [o](CI)dwell over them. 16 (CJ)They will hunger no longer, nor thirst anymore; nor will the sun [p]beat down on them, nor any heat; 17 for the Lamb at the center of the throne will (CK)shepherd them and will guide them to springs of the [q](CL)water of life. And (CM)God will wipe every tear from their eyes.”
The Seventh Seal
8 When He opened the (CN)seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour. 2 Then I saw (CO)the seven angels who stand before God, and seven (CP)trumpets were given to them.
3 (CQ)And another angel came and stood at the (CR)altar, having a (CS)golden censer; and much (CT)incense was given to him, so that he might [r]add it to the (CU)prayers of all the saints on the (CV)golden altar which was before the throne. 4 And (CW)the smoke of the incense went up [s]with the prayers of the saints, out of the angel’s hand, before God. 5 Then the angel [t]took the censer and (CX)filled it with the fire of the altar, and (CY)threw it to the earth; and there followed (CZ)peals of thunder and sounds and flashes of lightning and an (DA)earthquake.
The Seven Trumpets
6 (DB)And the seven angels who had the seven trumpets prepared themselves to sound them.
7 And the first sounded, and there came (DC)hail and fire, mixed with blood, and they were thrown to the earth; and (DD)a third of the earth was burned up, and (DE)a third of the (DF)trees were burned up, and all the green (DG)grass was burned up.
8 And the second angel sounded, and something like a great (DH)mountain burning with fire was thrown into the sea; and (DI)a third of the (DJ)sea became blood, 9 and (DK)a third of the creatures which were in the sea—those which had life—died; and a third of the (DL)ships were destroyed.
10 And the third angel sounded, and a great star (DM)fell from heaven, burning like a torch, and it fell on a (DN)third of the rivers and on the (DO)springs of waters. 11 And the name of the star is called Wormwood; and a (DP)third of the waters became (DQ)wormwood, and many men died from the waters, because they were made bitter.
12 And the fourth angel sounded, and a (DR)third of the (DS)sun and a third of the (DT)moon and a (DU)third of the (DV)stars were struck, so that a (DW)third of them would be darkened and the day would not shine for a (DX)third of it, and the night in the same way.
13 Then I looked, and I heard [u]an eagle flying in (DY)midheaven, saying with a loud voice, “(DZ)Woe, woe, woe to (EA)those who dwell on the earth, because of the remaining blasts of the trumpet of the (EB)three angels who are about to sound!”
9 Then the (EC)fifth angel sounded. Then I saw a (ED)star from heaven which had fallen to the earth, and the (EE)key of the (EF)pit of the abyss was given to him. 2 And he opened the pit of the abyss and (EG)smoke went up out of the pit, like the smoke of a great furnace, and (EH)the sun and the air were darkened by the smoke of the pit. 3 Then out of the smoke came (EI)locusts [v]upon the earth, and power was given them, as the (EJ)scorpions of the earth have power. 4 And they were told not to (EK)hurt the (EL)grass of the earth, nor any green thing, nor any tree, but only the men who do not have the (EM)seal of God on their foreheads. 5 And [w]they were not permitted to kill [x]anyone, but to torment for (EN)five months, and their torment was like the torment of a (EO)scorpion when it [y]stings a man. 6 And in those days (EP)men will seek death and will never find it; they will long to die, and death flees from them.
7 And the [z](EQ)appearance of the locusts was like horses prepared for battle. And on their heads appeared to be crowns like gold, and their faces were like the faces of men. 8 And they had hair like the hair of women, and their (ER)teeth were like the teeth of lions. 9 And they had breastplates like breastplates of iron, and the (ES)sound of their wings was like the sound of chariots, of many horses running to battle. 10 And they have tails like (ET)scorpions, and stings; and in their (EU)tails is their power to hurt men for (EV)five months. 11 They have as king over them, the angel of the (EW)abyss. His name in (EX)Hebrew is [aa](EY)Abaddon, and in the Greek he has the name [ab]Apollyon.
12 (EZ)One woe is past; behold, two woes are still coming after these things.
13 Then the sixth angel sounded, and I heard [ac]a voice from the [ad]four (FA)horns of the (FB)golden altar which is before God, 14 one saying to the sixth angel who had the trumpet, “Release the (FC)four angels who have been bound at the (FD)great river Euphrates.” 15 And the four angels were (FE)released, who had been prepared for the hour and day and month and year, so that they would kill a (FF)third of [ae]mankind. 16 And the number of the armies of the horsemen was (FG)two hundred million; (FH)I heard the number of them. 17 And [af]this is how I saw (FI)in the vision the horses and those who sit on them: the riders had breastplates the color of fire and of hyacinth and of [ag](FJ)brimstone; and the heads of the horses are like the heads of lions; and (FK)out of their mouths come fire and smoke and [ah](FL)brimstone. 18 A (FM)third of [ai]mankind was killed by these three plagues, by the (FN)fire and the smoke and the [aj]brimstone which came out of their mouths. 19 For the power of the horses is in their mouths and in their tails; for their tails are like serpents, having heads, and with them they do harm.
20 And the rest of [ak]mankind, who were not killed by these plagues, (FO)did not repent of (FP)the works of their hands, so as not to (FQ)worship demons, and (FR)the idols of gold and of silver and of brass and of stone and of wood, which can neither see nor hear nor walk. 21 And they (FS)did not repent of their murders nor of their (FT)sorceries nor of their (FU)sexual immorality nor of their thefts.
The Angel and the Little Scroll
10 Then I saw another (FV)strong angel (FW)coming down out of heaven, clothed with a cloud, and the (FX)rainbow was upon his head, and (FY)his face was like the sun, and his (FZ)feet like pillars of fire; 2 and he had in his hand a (GA)little scroll which was open. He placed (GB)his right foot on the sea and his left on the earth, 3 and he cried out with a loud voice, (GC)as when a lion roars. And when he had cried out, the (GD)seven peals of thunder [al]uttered their voices. 4 And when the seven peals of thunder had spoken, (GE)I was about to write; and I (GF)heard a voice from heaven saying, “(GG)Seal up the things which the seven peals of thunder have spoken and do not write them.” 5 Then the angel, whom I saw standing on the sea and on the earth, (GH)lifted up his right hand to heaven, 6 (GI)and swore by (GJ)Him who lives forever and ever, (GK)who created heaven and the things in it, and the earth and the things in it, and the sea and the things in it, that (GL)there will be delay no longer, 7 but in the days of the voice of the (GM)seventh angel, when he is about to sound, then (GN)the mystery of God is finished, as He proclaimed good news to His slaves, the prophets.
8 Then (GO)the voice which I heard from heaven, I heard again speaking with me, and saying, “Go, take (GP)the scroll which is open in the hand of the angel who (GQ)stands on the sea and on the earth.” 9 So I went to the angel, telling him to give me the little scroll. And he *said to me, “(GR)Take it and eat it; it will make your stomach bitter, but in your mouth it will be sweet as honey.” 10 And I took the little scroll out of the angel’s hand and ate it, and in my mouth it was sweet as honey; and when I had eaten it, my stomach was made bitter. 11 And (GS)they *said to me, “You must (GT)prophesy again about (GU)many peoples and nations and tongues and (GV)kings.”
The Two Witnesses
11 Then a [am](GW)measuring rod like a staff was given to me, (GX)saying, “Get up and measure the sanctuary of God and the altar, and those who worship in it. 2 And [an]leave out the (GY)court which is outside the sanctuary and do not measure it, for (GZ)it has been given to the Gentiles, and they will (HA)trample (HB)the holy city under foot for (HC)forty-two months. 3 And I will give authority to my two (HD)witnesses, and they will prophesy for (HE)1,260 days, clothed in (HF)sackcloth.” 4 These are the (HG)two olive trees and the two lampstands that stand before the Lord of the earth. 5 And if anyone wishes to harm them, (HH)fire comes out of their mouth and devours their enemies; so if anyone wishes to harm them, (HI)he must be killed in this way. 6 These have the authority to (HJ)shut up the sky, so that rain will not fall during (HK)the days of their prophesying; they also have authority over the waters to (HL)turn them into blood, and (HM)to strike the earth with every plague, as often as they wish.
7 And when they have finished their witness, (HN)the beast that comes up out of the (HO)abyss will (HP)make war with them and overcome them and kill them. 8 And their dead bodies will lie in the street of the (HQ)great city which spiritually is called (HR)Sodom and (HS)Egypt, where also their Lord was crucified. 9 And those from (HT)the peoples and tribes and tongues and nations will look at their dead [ao]bodies for three and a half days, and [ap](HU)will not permit their dead bodies to be laid in a tomb. 10 And (HV)those who dwell on the earth will rejoice over them and celebrate and (HW)send gifts to one another, because these two prophets tormented (HX)those who dwell on the earth.
11 But after the three and a half days, (HY)the breath of life from God came into them, and they stood on their feet, and great fear fell upon those who were watching them. 12 And they heard a loud voice from heaven saying to them, “(HZ)Come up here.” Then they (IA)went up into heaven in the cloud, and their enemies watched them. 13 And in that hour there was a great (IB)earthquake, and a tenth of the city fell; [aq]seven thousand people were killed in the earthquake, and the rest were terrified and (IC)gave glory to the (ID)God of heaven.
14 The second (IE)woe is past; behold, the third woe is coming quickly.
The Seventh Trumpet
15 Then the (IF)seventh angel sounded, and there were (IG)loud voices in heaven, saying,
“(IH)The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of (II)His [ar]Christ, and (IJ)He will reign forever and ever.” 16 And the twenty-four elders, who (IK)sit on their thrones before God, (IL)fell on their faces and worshiped God, 17 saying,
“We give You thanks, (IM)O Lord God, the Almighty, who is and who was, because You have taken Your great power and have begun to (IN)reign. 18 And (IO)the nations were enraged, and (IP)Your rage came, and (IQ)the time came for the dead to be judged, and to give reward to Your (IR)slaves—the prophets and the saints and those who fear Your name, (IS)the small and the great—and to destroy those who destroy the earth.”
19 And (IT)the sanctuary of God which is in heaven was opened, and (IU)the ark of His covenant appeared in His sanctuary, and there were flashes of (IV)lightning and sounds and peals of thunder and an earthquake and a (IW)great [as]hailstorm.
