Book of Common Prayer
Turn Us Back, O God
For the choir director. Of the sons of Korah. A Psalm.
85 O Yahweh, You showed (A)favor to Your land;
You [a](B)returned the fortunes of Jacob.
2 You (C)forgave the iniquity of Your people;
You (D)covered all their sin. [b]Selah.
3 You (E)withdrew all Your fury;
You (F)turned back from Your burning anger.
4 (G)Turn us back, O God of our salvation,
And (H)cause Your vexation toward us to cease.
5 Will (I)You be angry with us forever?
Will You prolong Your anger from generation to generation?
6 Will You not Yourself (J)return to [c]revive us,
That Your people may (K)be glad in You?
7 Show us, O Yahweh, Your lovingkindness,
And (L)give us Your salvation.
8 Let me hear what the God, Yahweh, will speak;
For He will (M)speak peace to His people, [d]to His holy ones;
But let them not (N)turn back to [e]folly.
9 Surely (O)His salvation is near to those who [f]fear Him,
That (P)glory may dwell in our land.
10 (Q)Lovingkindness and [g]truth have met together;
(R)Righteousness and peace have kissed each other.
11 [h]Truth (S)springs up from the earth,
And righteousness looks down from heaven.
12 Indeed, (T)Yahweh will give what is good,
And our (U)land will yield its produce.
13 (V)Righteousness will go before Him
And will establish the way of His steps.
Yahweh Loves the Gates of Zion
Of the sons of Korah. A Psalm. A Song.
87 His (A)foundation is in the holy mountains.
2 Yahweh (B)loves the gates of Zion
More than all the dwelling places of Jacob.
3 (C)Glorious things are spoken of you,
O (D)city of God. [a]Selah.
4 “I shall mention [b](E)Rahab and Babylon among those who know Me;
Behold, Philistia and (F)Tyre with [c](G)Ethiopia:
‘This one was born there.’”
5 But of Zion it shall be said, “This one and that one were born in her”;
And the Most High Himself will (H)establish her.
6 Yahweh will count when He (I)registers the peoples,
“This one was born there.” Selah.
7 And (J)singers, just like the (K)dancers, will all say,
“All my (L)springs are in you.”
Sing of the Lovingkindness of Yahweh Forever
A [a]Maskil of [b]Ethan [c]the Ezrahite.
89 I will (A)sing of the lovingkindnesses of Yahweh forever;
From generation to generation I will (B)make known Your (C)faithfulness with my mouth.
2 For I have said, “(D)Lovingkindness will be built up forever;
In the heavens You will establish Your (E)faithfulness.”
3 “I have cut a covenant with (F)My chosen;
I have (G)sworn to David My [d]servant,
4 I will establish your (H)seed forever
And build up your (I)throne from generation to generation.” [e]Selah.
5 The (J)heavens will praise Your wonders, O Yahweh;
Your faithfulness also (K)in the assembly of the (L)holy ones.
6 For (M)who in the sky is comparable to Yahweh?
Who among the [f](N)sons of the mighty is like Yahweh,
7 A God (O)greatly dreaded in the council of the (P)holy ones,
And [g](Q)fearsome above all those who are around Him?
8 O Yahweh God of hosts, (R)who is like You, O mighty Yah?
Your faithfulness also surrounds You.
9 You rule the swelling of the sea;
When its waves rise, You (S)still them.
10 You Yourself crushed [h](T)Rahab like one who is slain;
You (U)scattered Your enemies with Your strong arm.
11 The (V)heavens are Yours, the earth also is Yours;
The (W)world and its fullness, You have founded them.
12 The (X)north and the south, You have created them;
(Y)Tabor and (Z)Hermon (AA)sing with joy at Your name.
13 You have a mighty arm;
Your hand is strong, Your (AB)right hand is exalted.
14 (AC)Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne;
(AD)Lovingkindness and [i]truth go before You.
15 How blessed are the people who know the (AE)loud shout of joy!
O Yahweh, they walk in the (AF)light of Your face.
16 In (AG)Your name they rejoice all the day,
And by Your righteousness they are exalted.
17 For You are the beauty of (AH)their strength,
And by Your favor [j]our (AI)horn is exalted.
18 For our (AJ)shield belongs to Yahweh,
[k]And our king to the (AK)Holy One of Israel.
19 Formerly You spoke in vision to Your [l]holy [m]ones,
And said, “I have bestowed help to a (AL)mighty one;
I have exalted one (AM)chosen from the people.
20 I have (AN)found David My [n]servant;
With My holy (AO)oil I have anointed him,
21 With whom (AP)My hand will be established;
My arm also will (AQ)strengthen him.
22 The enemy will not [o]deceive him,
Nor the [p](AR)son of unrighteousness afflict him.
23 But I shall (AS)crush his adversaries before him,
And strike those who hate him.
24 My (AT)faithfulness and My lovingkindness will be with him,
And in My name his (AU)horn will be exalted.
25 I shall also set his hand (AV)on the sea
And his right hand on the rivers.
26 He will call to Me, ‘You are (AW)my Father,
My God, and the (AX)rock of my salvation.’
27 I also shall make him My (AY)firstborn,
The (AZ)highest of the kings of the earth.
28 My (BA)lovingkindness I will keep for him forever,
And My (BB)covenant shall be confirmed to him.
29 So I will set up his (BC)seed to endure forever
And his (BD)throne (BE)as the days of heaven.
God Calls Moses at the Burning Bush
3 Now Moses was pasturing the flock of (A)Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian; and he led the flock to the [a]west side of the wilderness and came to (B)Horeb, the (C)mountain of God. 2 (D)And the angel of [b]Yahweh appeared to him in a blazing fire from the midst of the (E)bush; and he looked, and behold, the bush was burning with fire, yet the bush was not consumed. 3 So Moses said, “[c](F)I must turn aside now and see this [d]marvelous sight. Why is the bush not burned up?” 4 And Yahweh saw that he turned aside to look, so (G)God called to him from the midst of the bush and said, “Moses, Moses!” And he said, “Here I am.” 5 Then He said, “Do not come near here. (H)Remove your sandals from your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground.” 6 He said also, “(I)I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” (J)Then Moses hid his face, for he was (K)afraid to look at God.
7 And Yahweh said, “I have surely (L)seen the affliction of My people who are in Egypt, and I have heard their cry because of their taskmasters, for I know their sufferings. 8 So I have come down (M)to deliver them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up from that land to a (N)good and spacious land, to a land flowing with milk and honey, to the place of (O)the Canaanite and the Hittite and the Amorite and the Perizzite and the Hivite and the Jebusite. 9 So now, behold, (P)the cry of the sons of Israel has come to Me; and I have also seen the oppression with which the Egyptians are oppressing them. 10 So now, come and I will send you to Pharaoh, (Q)and so you shall bring My people, the sons of Israel, out of Egypt.” 11 But Moses said to God, “(R)Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring the sons of Israel out of Egypt?” 12 And He said, “Certainly (S)I will be with you, and this shall be the sign to you that it is I who have sent you: (T)when you have brought the people out of Egypt, (U)you shall [e]serve God at this mountain.”
23 By faith (A)Moses, when he was born, was hidden for three months by his parents, because they saw he was a beautiful child, and they were not afraid of the (B)king’s edict. 24 By faith Moses, (C)when he had grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, 25 choosing rather to (D)be mistreated with the people of God than to enjoy the passing pleasures of sin, 26 (E)regarding the reproach of [a]Christ greater riches than the treasures of Egypt; for he was looking to the (F)reward. 27 By faith he (G)left Egypt, not (H)fearing the rage of the king; for he endured, as (I)seeing Him who is unseen. 28 By faith he [b](J)kept the Passover and the sprinkling of the blood, so that (K)he who destroyed the firstborn would not touch them. 29 By faith they (L)passed through the Red Sea as though they were passing through dry land, and the Egyptians, when they attempted it, were [c]drowned.
30 By faith (M)the walls of Jericho fell down (N)after they had been encircled for seven days. 31 By faith (O)Rahab the harlot did not perish along with those who were disobedient, after welcoming the spies [d]in peace.
6 Jesus *said to him, “I am (A)the way, and (B)the truth, and (C)the life. No one comes to the Father but through Me.
Oneness with the Father
7 (D)If you have come to know Me, you will know My Father also; from now on you (E)know Him, and have (F)seen Him.”
8 (G)Philip *said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us.” 9 Jesus *said to him, “Have I been with you all so long and have you not come to know Me, Philip? (H)He who has seen Me has seen the Father; how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 Do you not believe that (I)I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me? (J)The words that I say to you I do not speak from Myself, but the Father abiding in Me does His works. 11 Believe Me that (K)I am in the Father and the Father is in Me; otherwise (L)believe because of the works themselves. 12 Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and (M)greater works than these he will do because (N)I go to the Father. 13 (O)Whatever you ask in My name, this will I do, so that (P)the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you ask Me anything (Q)in My name, I will do it.
