³⁸ But He, being ^(A)compassionate, ^(B)atoned for their iniquity and did not destroy them;
And He abounded in ^(C)turning back His anger
And did not arouse all His wrath.

²³ Therefore ^(A)He said that He would destroy them,
Had not ^(B)Moses His chosen one stood in the breach before Him,
To turn away His wrath from ^[a]eradicating them.
