Psalm 38

A Psalm of David, to bring to remembrance.

¶ O LORD, rebuke me not in thy wrath: neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure.

For thine arrows stick fast in me, and thy hand presses me sore.

There is no soundness in my flesh because of thine anger; neither is there any rest in my bones because of my sin.

For my iniquities are gone over my head; as a heavy burden they are too heavy for me.

My wounds stink and are corrupt because of my foolishness.

I am troubled; I am bowed down greatly; I go mourning all the day long.

For my loins are filled with a loathsome disease, and there is no soundness in my flesh.

I am feeble and sore broken; I roar by reason of the disquietness of my heart.

Lord, all my desire is before thee, and my groaning is not hid from thee.

10 My heart pants, my strength fails me; as for the light of my eyes, it also is gone from me.

11 My friends and my companions stand aloof from my sore, and my kinsmen stand afar off.

12 ¶ Those that seek after my life lay snares for me, and those that seek my hurt speak calamities and imagine deceits all the day long.

13 But I, as a deaf man heard not, and was as a dumb man that did not open his mouth.

14 Thus I was as a man that does not hear, and in whose mouth are no reproofs.

15 For thee, O LORD, do I wait; thou wilt respond, O Lord my God.

16 For I said, Let them not rejoice over me; let them not magnify themselves against me when my foot slips.

17 For I am ready to halt, and my sorrow is continually before me.

18 Therefore I will declare my iniquity; I will be sorry for my sin.

19 For my enemies are alive, and they are strong, and those that hate me wrongfully are multiplied;

20 rendering evil for good they are against me because I follow that which is good.

21 Forsake me not, O LORD; O my God, be not far from me.

22 Make haste to help me, O Lord my salvation.

Psalm 119:25-48

DALETH.

25 ¶ My soul cleaves unto the dust; quicken me according to thy word.

26 ¶ I have declared my ways, and thou didst hear me; teach me thy statutes.

27 Make me to understand the way of thy precepts; so I shall meditate of thy wondrous works.

28 ¶ My soul melts for heaviness; strengthen me according to thy word.

29 Remove from me the way of lying, and from thy law grant me mercy.

30 ¶ I have chosen the way of truth; I have laid thy judgments before me.

31 I have stuck unto thy testimonies; O LORD, put me not to shame.

32 I will run the way of thy commandments when thou shalt enlarge my heart.

HE.

33 ¶ Teach me, O LORD, the way of thy statutes, and I shall keep it unto the end.

34 Give me understanding, and I shall keep thy law; yea, I shall observe it with my whole heart.

35 ¶ Make me to go in the path of thy commandments, for therein do I delight.

36 Incline my heart unto thy testimonies and not to covetousness.

37 ¶ Turn away my eyes from beholding vanity, and cause me to live in thy way.

38 ¶ Confirm thy word unto thy slave, who is devoted to thy fear.

39 ¶ Turn away my reproach which I have feared, for thy judgments are good.

40 ¶ Behold, I have longed after thy precepts; cause me to live in thy righteousness.

VAU.

41 ¶ Let thy mercy come unto me, O LORD, even thy salvation, according to thy spoken word.

42 And I shall answer him that reproaches me, by saying that I trust in thy word.

43 ¶ And take not at any time the word of truth out of my mouth; for I wait for thy judgment.

44 So shall I keep thy law continually from age to age.

45 ¶ And I will walk at liberty, for I sought thy commandments.

46 I will speak of thy testimonies also before kings and will not be ashamed.

47 And I will delight myself in thy commandments, which I have loved.

48 I will lift up My hands unto thy commandments, which I have loved, and I will meditate in thy statutes.

Genesis 9:18-29

18 ¶ And the sons of Noah, that went forth from the ark, were Shem, Ham, and Japheth; and Ham is the father of Canaan.

19 These are the three sons of Noah; and of them was the whole earth overspread.

20 And Noah began to till the ground, and he planted a vineyard;

21 and he drank of the wine and was drunken; and he was uncovered within his tent.

22 And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father and told his two brethren outside.

23 Then Shem and Japheth took a garment and laid it upon both their shoulders and went backward, and covered the nakedness of their father; and their faces were backward, and they did not see their father’s nakedness.

24 ¶ And Noah awoke from his wine and knew what his younger son had done unto him.

25 And he said, Cursed be Canaan; a slave of slaves shall he be unto his brethren.

26 And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of Shem; and Canaan shall be his slave.

27 God shall enlarge Japheth, and he shall dwell in the tents of Shem; and Canaan shall be his slave.

28 ¶ And Noah lived after the flood three hundred and fifty years.

29 And all the days of Noah were nine hundred and fifty years, and he died.

Hebrews 6:1-12

¶ Therefore, leaving now the word of the beginning of the establishment of the Christ, let us go on unto perfection, not laying again the foundation of repentance from works of death, and of faith in God,

of the doctrine of the baptisms, and of the laying on of hands, and of the resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.

And this we will indeed do, if God permits.

For it is impossible that those who once received the light and tasted of that heavenly gift and were made partakers of the Holy Spirit

and likewise have tasted the good word of God and the virtue of the age to come,

and have backslidden, be renewed again by repentance, crucifying again for themselves the Son of God and putting him to an open shame.

For the earth which drinks in the rain that comes often upon it and brings forth herbs in season for those by whom it is dressed receives blessing from God;

but that which bears thorns and briers is rejected and is near unto cursing, whose end shall be by fire.

¶ But, beloved, we expect better things than these of you, things near unto saving health, though we thus speak.

10 For God is not unjust to forget your work and labour of charity which ye have showed in his name, having helped the saints and helping them.

11 But we desire that each one of you show the same diligence until the end for the fulfillment of your hope,

12 that ye not become slothful, but imitators of those who by faith and patience inherit the promises.

John 3:22-36

22 ¶ After these things Jesus and his disciples came into the land of Judaea, and he tarried there with them and baptized.

23 And John also was baptizing in Aenon near to Salim because there was much water there, and they came and were baptized.

24 For John was not yet cast into prison.

25 Then there arose a question between the disciples of John and the Jews about purifying.

26 And they came unto John and said unto him, Rabbi, he that was with thee beyond Jordan of whom thou gave witness, behold, the same baptizes, and all men come to him.

27 John answered and said, A man can receive nothing except it is given him from the heaven.

28 Ye yourselves are my witnesses that I said, I am not the Christ, but that I am sent before him.

29 He that has the bride is the bridegroom, but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice; this my joy therefore is fulfilled.

30 It is expedient unto him to increase, but unto me, to decrease.

31 He that comes from above is above all; he that is of the earth is earthly and speaks earthly things: he that comes from heaven is above all.

32 And what he has seen and heard, that he testifies; and no one receives his testimony.

33 He that has received his testimony has set to his seal that God is true.

34 For he whom God has sent speaks the words of God; for God does not give the Spirit by measure unto him.

35 The Father loves the Son and has given all things into his hand.

36 He that believes in the Son has eternal life, and he that does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.
